When I'm at the pearly gates
This'll be on my videotape, my videotape
Mephistopheles is just beneath
And he's reaching up to grab me

This is one for the good days
And I have it all here
In red, blue, green
Red, blue, green

You are my center
When I spin away
Out of control on videotape
On videotape
On videotape
On videotape
On videotape

This is my way of saying goodbye
'Cause I can't do it face to face
I'm talking to you before

No matter what happens now
You shouldn't be afraid
Because I know today has been
The most perfect day I've ever seen

I'm a fan, ...I like most Radiohead but I just don't know about the machine noises in this song. Kind of annoying for me.

I'd say that was a bit of an overreaction. And so unpleasant . . .

(Me, I like pretty much everything Radiohead does.)

Unfortunately, the original demos of this song are far superior to what ended up on the album. Not a bad album closer, but could've been better.

Now, I can actually see where the haters come from but those who candidly admit liking Bends-era Readiohead and nothing beyond?? *scratchs head* Surely there's other bands who do that sort of thing better?! As per the claims of Radiohead going "off the wall once they got famous", pfffttt, I'm running out of time here.

Bends is something you can put on and enjoy the first time you hear it.  Everything after that took something of an acquired taste, but once it burrows its way into your brain, zOMG, it's amazing!

The only Radiohead album I don't care for is Amnesiac.  It's prolly about time to dust it off and give it another spin, but that one has never grown on me.

For all that yer man Yorke's voice is really irritating (to me, at any rate), the band itself is always instrumentally interesting and innovative. The percussion on this number is intriguing and really grabs the ear.
I love  these guys... I just can't help myself...
Ehhh.....   it just drones on and on

The constant quarrel of Radiohead lovers versus haters gets a little bit taxing here!

Videotape, genius.

Ahhhhtrg Bloody Radiohead - thought I could hear a cat wailing...
9 just for the pleasure to let it grow on me

Too bad their art director doesn't know Roy G. Biv.

Oh, I thought this was "Radiotape" by "Videohead" … or vice-versa. Not that Tapehead couldn't do a Radio Video! {#Tongue}

Fecking brilliant.

RADIOHEAD RULES

Ignore all the phillistines...
Good transition, but still doesn't make up for that god awful version of High and Dry before

I take it back.  The vocals are as annoying as usual.

Good point, and fair play to ya. He does write decent enough songs, but his voice is just so weak and insipid and thin and plain whiney.

however, this track here sounds just like all the other, post-OK computer incoherent dribbles that they just seem to keep cranking out.. i don't get it nor do i particularly want to. i can't believe they expect people to pay $$$ for this. as i read somewhere (regarding Kid A) years ago, this is the inevitable result of too much money and everyone telling you you're a genius.

it would've been better off had they followed the leads of bands like pearl jam or REM, who did not go completely off the wall once they got famous.. but then again, I never had the impression that there was much mental power behind radiohead, so perhaps radiohead's 1st 3 albums were all they had and now they are all tapped out..

No you are not "historically a huge RH fan if you lost them after OK Computer (and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you liked OKC) .  You have missed out on the most creative energizing force that has existed in the rock world for the last 15 years.

Sorry for you dude.

This is one fantasic album from an incredible band.  Don't ever stop growing RH.

Nice closing song to a great album.

When you think about it, pretty much every album, even Pablo Honey, has a solid closing song. I've always thought Radiohead saves some of the best stuff for the last track. It really leaves a mark when you finish an album listen.

Nice closing song to a great album.

Wow, surprised to find so many Radiohead haters on RP.

For what it's worth, here's my journey with regard to Radiohead.

When I first heard them I couldn't stand them - mostly on account of Thom Yorke's voice. I even took the very unusual step, for me, of permanently deleting the audio files from my computer.

Two or three years later, two things happened: (a) I heard a couple of piano covers of Radiohead, in particular Christopher O'Riley's classical arrangement of "Exit Music" and Brad Mehldau's jazz trio cover of "Paranoid Android", that put these tunes in a different frame for me, if you will, and made me think of them differently; and (b) I learned that "OK Computer" was on the top of several reader polls and critics' lists of the greatest albums ever recorded.

Now, I'm not necessarily one to go along with the crowd, but I figured that where there's smoke there's a good chance of a fire, and that at least they deserved a new listen.

I now understand 100% why they've earned so much respect from so many wildly different quarters. Like a lot of other difficult music (see: Sigur Ros, late Coltrane), Radiohead's compositions reward multiple listens and a lot of concentration. Listen to it loud when you're alone and not doing anything else. It's not background music. It demands a lot from you. In return, you'll hear new things every time you listen to it.

Very well written. I had the same initial reaction to Radiohead and muted everytime they played on RP. Now they're one of my favourites.

I will definetely try to find the jazz covers you refer to.

The challenging, "difficult" music is usually the most rewarding in the end. The music that is immediately enjoyable is like candy, the flavour is soon gone.

Dog's bollocks ... wet herring ... oh my. English is so much better in England.

Incredible piece of music...

My son (14 yrs old) has progressed through several bands, listening to most if not all of their music as he matures or absorbs their content.

It started with the Pogues, Clash, then Zeppelin, Porcupine Tree, Metallica (psuedo setback), and then Radiohead. As he matures as a young man, his music becomes more and more complex. It's neat to hear him try to play Radiohead on his guitar. I feel, in this regard, that I have steered him in the right direction.

He's a mouthy teenager, but that's okay, we all were at one point. But his musical taste is pure.

And for that I'm proud.{#Bananajam}

the first day the DL was available for this album, i DLed it and then mistakenly played this song first, having the song order completely backwards.  i thought, wow, what a weird song to open with.  this ought to be a closing song.  then i realized my mistake.  DOH!  XD

just a lovely song.

i agree with an above poster though, i wish i could hear "15 steps" on this station.
Over the last 50 years I've seen the release of only a handful of truly great albums. Sure, lots of great music, but rarely a truly great ALBUM. Thick As a Brick, side two of Abbey Road, Pet Sounds. Albums that are greater than the sum of their parts.

For me, In Rainbows is quickly climbing into that rare air. Every time I listen to it, I like it more and more. I've never really been captured by anything Radiohead has done before, but this album is amazing. The rhythms that Phil Selway weaves in and out of the music, the guitar and bass magic of the Brothers Greenwood. And Thom Yorke's voice. Not really a great voice, I don't think. But no other voice in the world could so wonderfully meld all of those great songs into a great album.

Thanks, RP, for turning me on to a masterpiece.

This is trippin'
...what stuns is to hear the drummer play this sort of thing live - how, i've no idea...
Alto por favor.
Sounds a lot like Sigur Ros to me. I like it.
I havn't been sure about Radiohead since OK Computer.

The first two songs ROCK. The remainder of the album is beautiful melancholia. RH does both quite well, IMO.
