Just as you write my number down
Just as the drinks arrive
Just as they play your favorite song
As your bad day disappears
No longer wound up like a spring
Before you've had too much
Come back in focus again
The walls are bending shape
They got a cheshire cat grin
All blurring into one
This place is on a mission
Before the night owl
Before the animal noises
Closed circuit cameras
Before you're comatose
Before you run away from me
Before you're lost between the notes
The beat goes 'round and 'round
The beat goes 'round and 'round
I never really got there
I just pretended that I had
Words are blunt instruments
Words are sawed off shotguns
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Before you run away from me
Before you're lost between the notes
Just as you take the mic
Just as you dance, dance, dance
A jigsaw falling into place
So there is nothing to explain
You eye each other as you pass
She looks back and you look back
Not just once
And not just twice
Wish away your nightmare
Wish away the nightmare
You got a light you can feel it on your back
A light and you can feel it on your back
Your jigsaw falling into place
this is the best of this great band.
YES! That's how I like to start my day. What a feckin choon.
i had to google that. now i know what choon means. thank you!
Your rating may be accurate, but your math skills are lacking.
Don’t be a pedant. It just means they moved their rating from a 7 to an 8.
I was literally bobbing my head when I read this. You're so right.
I myself don't bob, I sway like a pendulum, kinda like the lyrics that slither into my head.
For years I savaged Radiohead on these pages and in print, and one day I finally figured out that if you took Yorke's voice with a very large grain of salt, the band was incredible. Ditto the lyrics. Sigh. Unlike other bands, who will go unnamed, I think you have to take the wonderful with the not-so-wonderful. Still, Radiohead is pretty much everything touted about them. One hell of a band.
I'm getting there too, WonderLizard! And maybe I haven't been as savage against RH, though it's taken till recently to listen to this and 3 other RH albums in full, and yes, great stuff....this one's going +1 to 9...Long Live RP!!
Impossible to listen to this song without bobbing my head like a fool watching Wayne's World.

SAME HERE! I agree!

Early Radiohead sounds a lot like Kino, a Russian group popular in the eighties. although Kino's singer/songwriter was a baritone.
but this ,
this is exeptional.
strong 9 .
Wouldn't sound of much if it wasn't rotating. Just sayin'
You might try Googling the meaning of heavy rotation.

My whining goes 'round and 'round

I just red the lyrics - I'm thinking dude might be better off talking to girls in church sundays

Hey now - who you calling a choon?
Mahler had a similar problem - if problem is the correct word.
RP knows what's what though.
This type of pretentiousness pretty much epitomizes RH fans.

We're playing that one too.
Time to boost the volume!
Zactly - just did
Now, that's art. It's not for everyone, just as any other ;)
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
I sometimes wonder why they bother as well. At least it stops him whining in another band.
Beguiling!
Droning!
Well, at least we're not listening to Quadrophenia!
"Love, Feign o'er Me"
Time to boost the volume!

I don't mute RP very often but this made me do it, dreadful.
Which planet?
That said, to me "Knives Out" is a great tune and arrangement, and RH do have other occasional flashes of brilliance. But the sun doesn't shine out of their collective arse.
Out of respect to said fanboys, I won't rate the song.
Well, I will. 6. I admire RH and there is smth like here...just not much. lots of better RH played on RP, but nice to have a spectrum played. Thanks BillG.
Agreed.

You are obviously not a Radiohead-head.
exactly
What planet? Where does this insufferable worship of RadioHead come from?
Really trying to get it. This one got a 3 from me, it takes nearly a whole minute for Thom Yorke to turn his weak voice into true rectal itch and hearty PSD. As for the composition, it's no different from dozens of other of their songs. There's minimalism, then there's mindlessly arranged noodling in a single register.
Please excuse Jimmy's negative comment about your intellect in his response.
But to answer your question - the planet is earth (in my opinion of course - although I'm joined by many - it doesn't make it fact)
I couldn't disagree more with some of your opinions (weak voice?, rectal itch?, mindlessly arranged noodling?, no different fom dozens of RH songs??)
I'm thinking Thom's voice is a powerful 5th or 6th instrument - used in a wide variety of ways - in RH's catalog.
I believe the arrangements are precisely and splendidly arranged and the playing powerful, fluid and unique in rock.
My opinion is this album overall and this song in particular are more accessible to the average listener than many of their prior 2 or 3 efforts, very different from the vibe of Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief. I think that's why many folks on this board who are not big RH fans still express admiration for this tune/album.
Won't address your feelings in your rear quarters. These guys have a major affect on my mind, heart and soul.
