Chewin' out a rhythm on my bubble gum
The sun is out and I want some
It's not hard, not far to reach
We can hitch a ride
To Rockaway Beach
Up on the roof, out on the street
Down in the playground, the hot concrete
Bus ride is too slow
They blast out the disco on the radio
Rock, rock, Rockaway Beach
Rock, rock, Rockaway Beach
Rock, rock, Rockaway Beach
We can hitch a ride
To Rockaway Beach

Unfortunately Bill doesn't play the good stuff; only their failed attempts at getting a song on the radio like this one and Rock n Roll High School.
It's the late 70s and it's a small club in New Orleans and in the corner these guys are cranking like a motherfucker. Every two minutes it's ONETWOTHREEFOUR and another great tune gets spit out loud and fast.
These guys were so freakin important.

Thank you for saving me from Disco in the late ‘70s. I am still so grateful. 😎
nice combo, Kinks > Ramones
Not on End of the Century. It's on Rocket to Russia.

I think you have it bang on. Juvenile crap, and the U2 comment caps it off. 👍👍🤣

Sounds like are they singing "Rot Away Beach".
Rockin mix is Stuck on this kick-ass song

I'm always amazed at the interest level of this drivel. The band was totally meaningless to the late 70's and early 80's - and they knew it - which is why most of them are dead or one sandwich short of a picnic. And oh -
The only band to ever pick up instruments that were more over-rated than the Ramones is U2

A great track. People say The Ramones have only one song but they do each one is a great one. Kind of like a slowed down Kinks - All Day and All of the Night (Live) . ;-) .

Last I checked it's is or her opinion to like or dislike something. Nice assumption that they're a Classic Rock fan. How do you know what music they like? Moron. I'm sure you dislike lots of music other people like and have bashed said music as well. smh.

The Eurosport TV commercial for the US Tennis Open uses this as the background.

This is the musical equivalent of a dune buggy. Just the bare essentials, nothing superfluous, and a lot of fun.

What an early, well behaved version... Almost cute!
This one is already a bit faster:

Who says you need more than 4 chords?
I saw these guys in NYC who knows how long ago.
So damned loud! They played one long song separated occasionally by "one two three four".....
My ears were ringing for a week.

Sweet, I needed this tune right about now...5:50pm

It's about time you started to rock!
Exactly what I'd expect from RP.
I see your Echo Beach and raise you a Rockaway Beach
Not exactly what I'd expect of from RP, but somehow it fits.

Yes & no your not getting it. Either Hippie or Punk - its like you either like Beanbugler or Bacon & Cheese Hambugler but you can't have both!!!
just the ticket to get out of the rut and back into the groove.
thanks RP
Thanks for this, Bill! Ahh, memories...
How did I know this was comming? Oh yeah, I was reading the posts about echo beach....
And that followed "Down by the Seaside"
Nice continuity anyway.

GREAT segway
I prefer a good old-fashioned bicycle. A lot cheaper, and there's no chance of falling over when the battery runs out.
Now we're talkin'! Nothing blows out the cobwebs like a hit of the Ramones.
OK, i guess this was their task:
"Guys, what the world needs is a full-length song that only has 64 words. GO!"
Not usually the neg feedback type, but this one's gonna stick in the head a while i know. Gimme Shatner or some other son of a beach to cleanse it out.
Sahara Hotnights performs a great cover of this, at a snappier tempo and less zombie droning. :)

What? No Heartbreakers Beach Party!
Good Old Rock and Roll ....
so what if it was the ramones, that song sucks!

sorry...the post was cryptic. Not unusual for me. I meant they both surprised me (in a good way). I _love_ the Ramones. Rocket to Russia was one of three "anthem" albums for me during high school (1976-1979)...(the other two were Talking Heads '77 and Elvis Costello This Year's Model).

All right already! I'm awake! Thank You Very Much! Nothing like having my Linux Box set to turn on the sound before the sun shines.
Love you guys!

A nice beach theme going.
Now all it needs is Frank Zappa's "Let me take you to the Beach".
I think I see a theme here...
Anyway, this song reminds me too much of high school.
Dieu est grand et Joe Ramones est son prophÚte !!!!!

Wow, flashbacks! Beach 116th street in Rockaway, where the cool kids from Astoria NY claimed as their turf!!!
OK, back to being an old guy now...
YESS!
see? there is more to the ramones than "i wanna be sedated!"
now i wanna sniff some glue!
nothing quite like seeing these guys live when they were still on drugs.

Man, these guys totally ripped off "Rock and Roll High School" - oh yeah, they did that too.
Ha. That's what I was going to say.
About 60% of their catalogue sounds like the same song - but what a song!
7:29 am - Ramones - Rockaway Beach
7:25 am - Martha & the Muffins - Echo Beach
7:20 am - Led Zeppelin - Down By the Seaside
Beach set! Get me away from the snow!

This, was before, that.

Three chords and Power. I'm back in college at the back room of the Varsity Grill.
I have hitched a ride to Rockaway Beach, a number of times - and as I remember it, I was humming this little ditty under my breath every time.
Squidish like the Ramones on the beach!
