One of the songs that defines the 70s for me. ABC used this in commercials pitching their shows shortly after it came out.

I still remember as a kid hearing this on AFRTS AM radio in Germany in summer 1975.  It was so unlike anything else on the radio at the time and I remember how cheerful it made the day.

Bear in mind 1975 pop radio was filled with stuff like "Wildfire", "Mandy", "Have You Never Been Mellow", "Laughter In The Rain", etc... so it was nice to have something that took the energy up a notch.

Gotta agree with you.  Saw him in Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto during the 'A Day at the Races Tour'.     Didn't really know what I was witnessing at the time.  Certainly got it ticked off the bucket list at an early age.

Agreed. He had it all. We may have lost him too soon, but he left us with a riches of great songs and wonderful singing.
Freddie's voice was my best friend on the stereo as a teenager. Another John Deacon classic. The poor bloke had no stage presence (who does next to Freddie?), and very little to say in interviews, but on paper: Your My Best Friend, Spread Your Wings, Another One Bites The Dust, If You Can't Beat 'Em.. Brilliant.

Funny, I was about to say that this song could have been done by ELO, albeit, not as well. Not all music needs to be "cerebral." In fact, sometimes I am moved by the simplest of concepts. This is one of them. Variety rules!

I like Queen a lot, mainly because they were unique, some of their songs didn't quite do it for me and some were amazing.

They were a love em or hate em band, they could have stuck to the harder rock sound and conquered America but the fact that they stuck to their guns brought them greater respect from many.

The music they made later on was a pale shadow of the early songs and they should have split up after Freddie's death as for me he WAS Queen.

The sentiment is sweet but I'd wager most of those rating the song highly are doing so out of loyalty to the band more than appreciation of this particular song. I like some Queen stuff, and some simply rocks, but this isn't it.

RP just keeps hitting me with this serendipity thing - in the last hour Ray Lamontagne and Bruce Cockburn have been played: going to see them live in Belfast on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Last Saturday night I saw a Queen tribute band - Flash Harry - who were really very good entertainment and had, obviously, taken some of the Paul Rogers + Queen set from 2005/6 as inspiration. This track is a favourite from one of the first albums I ever bought.

This is a bit goopy, but I have loved this song since my husband put it on the outgoing message of his answering machine (when we were dating) and it became "our" song. It is simple, perfectly executed and perfectly expressive of its message.

As Bill just commented, it's a "silly little pop song," but I love it. In fact I wanted the DJ to play it at my wedding, but he never got to it (or most of the other 47 or so songs I asked him to play!) Since I'm such a firm believer in the power of music to express what plain human speech often cannot, I tried to be a bit of a control freak about the music played at the most important public event of my life... ah well, it was still good. There's something about the grandiose, over-the-top delivery that Queen gave to all of its songs that makes this one a bit more than just ordinary. Simple sentiments, expressed grandly.

You'd never know that this was the John Deacon's, (the bass-player) first hit with the band. He went on to write several of the band's more memorable songs, "I Want To Break Free" and "Another One Bites The Dust". Fantastic song! Texarse
