You can dream and drowse
The minutes turn to hours
We could climb a tree or two
And watch the sun go down
Upon our sleepy town
After all the time I spent with you
Summer went away
And we just weren't the same
It's just you and me alone
Not grown ups but not kids
You kissed me on the lips

Let me say that our mission here at this time is about to come to a close in the next few days. We came from distant space, and even what some might call somewhat of another dimension, and we are about to return from whence we came.
It requires, if you maybe moving into that evolutionary kingdom, that you leave behind everything of human ways, human behavior, human ignorance, human misinformation.
If I would title this tape, it would be 'Last chance to evacuate planet Earth before it is recycled'.
Last chance to evacuate Earth before it is recycled.
This song's concept is like a peanut butter and liverwurst sandwich.
What? Explain yourself! ??
Both great bands - Porcupine Tree is a British band, I think.
'Cause we're the 51st state of America
Yeah, we're the 51st state of America
This is the 51st state of America

Its the leader of the Heavens Gate cult telling his followers to commit suicide
Taken as a single track, yeah, maybe the dialog "ruins" this song....though when listened as a concept album, well then I think you'll find it fits nicely. This one's an 8 for me...Long Live RP!!
He is coming to Buenos Aires on May 25. Will see him for the first time...

Ran into an interesting fellow who lives on a Krishna cooperative community not far from our home last night. Been living under the poverty line for 20 years and living well I believe. He had a shot of whiskey and a pull off the joint so I don't believe he is too dogmatic.
Listen, learn, feel and fear the message, then help pass it on because some warnings only come once...
Featuring Old School New School.
I used to make PB and Spam sandwiches. Good stuff.
Just read that, and almost barfed on my keyboard!
It's chilling to consider how people's questions about their place on earth and the meaning of life can get exploited by or sucked into projects that quietly build towards some nutty extreme. Scientology, Jim Jones, Applewhite, ISIS...
Yes, individual freedom can be frightening and disorienting but why surrender yourself entirely to someone else?

This is just a little too spooky. The way that guy speaks of "human behavior" smacks of the ultimate in self hatred that he had his followers commit. It does not need to be reproduced unless it is an obvious warning to others.
This track could be confusing to listeners, particularly the young or disturbed.
I guess it could be a little "spooky" in some ways but in other ways it's almost trivial or even trivializing in it use. Most of the adult population of the Western World should be somewhat familiar with Marshall Applewhite and his ill-fated cult, so I don't know if too many people would be confused or inspired by the message - I tend to ignore any message as soon as I hear the grammatically-incorrect phrase "from whence we came".

Right. The devil made me do it.

MMMmmmm. Delicious.

These days I am playing solo Steven Wilson CDs one after the other.
Just started to dial into some of the songs on Raven that refused to sing.
On road trips, I play 3 or 4 PT CDs one right after the other. In order. That is what an MP3 CD allows you to do.
Really nice fretless playing.
Yep. I lived nearby too. Just a few miles up the road. Bizarro doesn't even begin to describe it. But what an awesome band.
OK, I don't mind 'collage art'. This works stupendously well for me. The prose is compelling. There is always a whimsical distance. The instrumental bits are lovely.
And no, I don't own shares in Porcupine Tree but I wish I did.
Ruinous.
I was thinking the same thing about the recent spate of Republic party presidential candidates. Trust me, I would like to see better Republican candidates.
Ruinous.
Eh, Bill plays what he wants. Get used to it!
I think he should play a little less Porcupine Tree and supplement that with Opeth and Katatonia, two other bands that Steven Wilson has a hand in the production side of things.
But again, that's my silly little opinion.
Preposterous! Is there such a thing as "too much" PT?! I don't believe so.
Obviously, you're not a golfer.
Au Contraire....More PT on RP Please.
NEARfest introduced me to several other fantastic groups.
(sigh) It's an integral part of the song. It's what the song's about, the Heaven's Gate cult, and that's the leader of the cult speaking before they all horrifically committed mass suicide. Read comments a bit further down for enlightenment and links.
Ditto that.
Funny to see these comments about least-favorite PT songs! As another PT fanatic I have to essentially agree with the above comments, although I wouldn't go as far as saying Access Denied is awful, but I still do not much care for it.
And I would add one more to the list—Linton Samuel Dawson—nothing but irritating to me. Thankfully it's never been played here on RP. And even though I have it in my iTunes, I do not have it on my iPod.
Slipstream... random comment here... back in the dark ages of the 70's I was in a band called Slipstream. Great times, lot of fun. Always like seeing your name here.
On the Sunday of Life has a lot of rare gems. I like Space Transmission "You must listen very carefully to what I have to say, there isn't much time since you know who has consumed all the instruments". Great song to precede RadioActive Toy!
I like Linton, he's quite a little fellow flitting around in space, but to each is own.
Peace, fellow RP PT fanatic (like me, and Deadwing, and slope of course!)
Love this song and the lunatic's voice
The lunatic was the leader of the Heaven's Gate cult, who committed mass suicide under his leadership believing that they were going into space. This is an intensely sad song.
We caught them at HOB Houston the next night. That show was amazing as well. I posted the setlist in the forum.
A buddy saw PT in Orlando, Florida last night. Played the full Incident CD and then came back with a bunch of favourites.
Sounded like an awesome concert!
Love this song and the lunatic's voice.
The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Every star, planet, and quasar seen in the film is possible because of the world's most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas that is maintained and updated by astrophysicists at the American Museum of Natural History. The new film, created by the Museum, is part of an exhibition, Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan through May 2010.
So funny- I love worship and adore PT but Access Denied is just awful. LOL! So funny to see someone that agrees with me on that song. It's embarrassingly bad. I find it hard to believe that SW ever let that one get out to the general public.
I'm also not too crazy about Four Chords That Made a Million...

Steven Wilson rocks!
I need to upload his covers of 'A Forest' and 'Sign O the Times' to the LRC/Upload section for review.
This album (Lightbulb Sun) and In Absentia are becoming my favorite PT albums...
amazing!
I am a PT fanatic—but "Access Denied" is a song I'd recommend never listening to..yuck. Everything else they've done is incredible.

But we need things like this to educate people about the horrific things that these cults can do. First it's purple Nikes, and next they'll be committing symbolic cannibalism and telling people that condoms spread AIDS.
Those sound-bites are somewhat disturbing, and perhaps some may feel that using them only trivializes the Heaven's Gate tragedy, but I don't feel that it does. I think they work in the context of the total message of what is an intriguing song really. Well, to me it is.
Awesome!!!
Yeah! Proud dads we are! By the way, the DVD-A remaster of this is fantastic.
Cheers
Anyway.. Steven Wilson = housegod when it comes to music...
I somewhat agree with you. I really like the earlier stuff, and most of the newer (last 3 CDs), but some of the real heavy stuff
I dislike. The more Floyd-like stuff is my fave, I guess.

Too bad I missed it
is an interesting name for an Artist :|
I was going to snark "Welcome to the party, dude," or something nasty like that, and then I realized his comment was from 2003 even though it was only halfway down the page. Apparently this song isn't played very often. What a shame; it's a very interesting song. That does it' I'm going to have to buy Lightbulb Sun.
Interesting, but highly derivative. I'd listen to more.
Yes, but the best song by far on the entire album IMHO is "Russia On Ice".
