There's no room, no space to rent in this town
You're out of luck and the reason that you had to care,
The traffic is stuck and you're not moving anywhere.
You thought you'd found a friend to take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand in return for grace
It's a beautiful day, the sky falls
And you feel like it's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
You're on the road but you've got no destination
You're in the mud, in the maze of her imagination
You love this town even if it doesn't ring true
You've been all over and it's been all over you
It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
It's a beautiful day
Touch me, take me to that other place
Teach me, I know I'm not a hopeless case
See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
See the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colours came out
It was a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
A beautiful day
Touch me, take me to that other place
Reach me, I know I'm not a hopeless case
What you don't have you don't need it now
What you don't know you can feel it somehow
What you don't have you don't need it now
You don't need it now, you don't need it now
Beautiful day
Haters should start their own band and then work for justice in the world. U2 is part of the reason I spent 30 years working as a community organizer on a variety of issues.
Too many negative comments on RP. It's easier to tear down than build up. My view is that if I don't like a song, others do, so I won't attack their taste.
Music is my religion. Grace my aspiration. Hope my energy.
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Won't you be my neighbor?
So well said... I totally agree ! I don't get it why people come here and just say " This song is bullshit..." if you don't like it, well then just move away, pass to the next one, or simply change your radio station !
Apparently it's not enough for people to vote a song 1 (which is fine). No, they also need to express their hate in posting a comment such as the one I quoted (which is just plain stupid). There is a button to skip a song. Use it and move on to something you want to hear and express how good that song is in a comment. That would be a much more clever use of energy and life time. It might also make you a slightly better person in the end.
Very well stated!!
If I never hear this song again, it'll be too soon.

Um, yeah. Lets all hate a talented band with a distinct sound because its lead singer tried to see how his fame and wealth could improve things in the world
where the song Bloody Sunday originated was so powerful, Derry was a amazing city, on many levels.
Many years ago, when I had my father visit as his 65th birthday present from me, I took him to see U2. I told him the day he arrived that we were going to the concert. The rest of the conversation went like this:
My dad (quite pleased with himself): “I just went to a rock concert last night!”Me (surprised): “Who’d you see?”
My dad: “The Platters!”
Me (smiling): “This is going to be a little different.”
And it was. I love recalling the huge smile on his face when he did the wave at the concert and the wonder in his voice when he asked me, “Are you supposed to feel the music in your stomach?” and “Does everyone know every word to every song?” (“Yes, Dad.”)Here's to everyone out there and "up there" who appreciates U2.
No, more U2!!!
Agree!
Has Bono saved the world yet?
It cannot be saved because of this attitude. Congratulations.
No more u2
No, more U2!!!
How can it be

It IS a Beautiful Day!
(PS: The Eels have a similarly titled tune that's really good! And old timers know there used to be a rock and roll band with this name.)
Yes, there was - I saw them at the Bath Festival in 1969(?), along with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe & the Fish, Mothers of Invention, Steppenwolf, Johnny Winter, Byrds, Moody Blues, Canned Heat. Dr John was at first light on the Monday morning - it all overran due to weather and thousands had left by then.
Sadly my overwhelming memory of the entire festival was being freezing cold and soaking wet.

A well crafted Ciceronian style oration but everyone has the right to express their opinion and to point out the inspirational decline of a band.
I wish the world could leave U2 behind
Are you lonely?

You're goddamn right
Well to be honest you're not. The song you are referring to is actually called "Mr. E's Beautiful Blues"

Definitely more than you.
Standing by and criticizing those who try, while doing nothing yourself.
To paraphrase the great William Shatner: "Riding on their armchairs.
They dream of wealth and fame. Fear is their companion. Nintendo is their game. Never done Jack and Two Thumbs Don and sidekick don't say Dick. They'll laugh at others failures, though they have not done s*#t."

Student of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin?
Call this one a 7 now...and LLRP!
It is indeed a beautiful day here. Calm, sunny, blue skies.
So you're from the future?
Everyone does not agree. Their work is a continuum, no one section better than another. I'd rather look forward to their next effort than back to the past on a wasted comparison.

if you look around the web you can find a live version of Eels singing that song to melody of twist and shout
its just wonderful ok so here it is...
Eels - Mr. E's Beautiful Blues/I Like Birds (Live at Pukkelpop)

So you talk to yourself, go on... tell me... how do you feel about that....
Not everyone follows the crowd.
Oh and their best song of the millennium is IMO, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own. Or is it City of Blinding Lights? Maybe, Miracle Drug? No, Elevation? Or, Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of? Nay, Lights Of Home? Perhaps, American Soul or Get Out Of Your Way? The Miracle? Cedarwood Road?
Toss up.

Aside from Bono's tediously annoying personal crusades, they still put out good stuff.

I suppose making an attempt is somehow worse than making no attempt...according to your logic.
It's classic "new-America" thinking and it really seems to be catching on these days.

Just out of curiosity, in you case you might know, how did Cynaera's subdural hematoma come about?
I highly recommend you go.
I'd rather get a root canal.
And how, pray tell does this score higher than the previous play of David Gilmour-Smile?
Makes no sense.
I highly recommend you go.
Lazarus, thanks for posting these comments about Cynaera.
Her presence here is missed.
Hard NOT to like it, with that kind of image. But then, I love U2 anyway.
We still miss you so much, Cynaera... you were such a fine writer... love this song...
Ann Lucas passed away February 6, 2012, at University of Utah Medical Center, at age 55 due to a subdural hematoma, which required surgery. She was put on life support, but after three days without signs of improvement, her family made the difficult decision to discontinue life support and donate her organs on the 6th.
Ann was born on Oct. 12, 1956, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Buss and Dorothy Stepp, who encouraged her to follow her dreams. One dream was to become a published author, which she achieved in 2010 with her novel "Life-Dance". She also wrote fan fiction for the television show "La Femme Nikita".
Ann was also a freelance correspondent for the "Elko Independent" newspaper and had a recurring column called "Shaking the Tree", as well as writing articles for "Elko Daily Free Press".
Agreed, So much hate and ugliness, if you don't like them move on, spare us your drivel. Once again out of 1400 plus reviews it STILL gets 7.2, haters go to the end of the line! lol
Yet.
Nope, that didn't work. It's possible one may have to stand under a ladder as well. I'd say I'd let you know if that works, but then it would be too late. Carry on...
Haha!! GREAT comment, describes SO many things that's wrong with him/this band.
People like to make fun of Bono. But I'd like to think that were I in his extraordinary position, I'd also try to use it to improve things in the world as much as I could. An knowing myself, I'd also make a few missteps in the process.

Even if that doesn't ring true

I tend to agree. Though that isn't much of a recommendation.
Very neatly arranged but typically aimless in its delivery.
Always sounds to me like they employ their own albums as reference. Did they learn nothing from Eno?
One of their best of the millennium, yes, but I like this. Not sure what you mean by employing their own albums as reference. That last album was so labored and earnest and tired.
Yet.
Garb. Drivel.
Saw them live through the 80's
This feels a bit artificial and boring for my ears

In the context of everything on RP it still holds up pretty well. But when a hit single becomes overplayed there's not much that can rescue it.
Not a U2 hater or a fan boy, although I got a good laugh out of the iTunes fiasco.
Always interesting to read two sides going to war over a song or a band. I'm not sure it's Bill's intent to highlight the lack of real music appreciation that exists (they used to teach it in college, do they still?), and the extent of age- and era-ism that cloud people's perceptions of popular music. But since we come from roughly the same backgrounds (1970s "progressive" FM radio) I suspect that it is.
I hope you enjoyed the concert. I saw a clip on Youtube that showed they had quite literally lost their Edge.
All mockery aside though I'm glad he was okay, could've been nasty.
Yes, the opening night concert was memorable. Despite all the haters out there, U2 always raise the production/concert experience to the next level, which most bands will never achieve
Gee Mirek. A guy from Guelph, Ontario should know how to delete extra posts......
Well, despite all the U2 haters around I am looking forward to their opening night concert in Vancouver Thursday.

If you have something constructive to offer, by all means do so. But if all you have to say is, "I don't like this, I'm hitting PSD," just save yourself the typing time and skip to the end.
Having PSD is nice, and I use it every now and then, but a side effect of having it is people feeling the need to record on the comments that they used it. It's not necessary.
Perhaps you should lay out the circumstances under which it is "necessary" to respond. Then, I would no longer have to wonder. The uncertainty was wearing on me.

Now I have to figure out which one.
Hey, a little help over here...
So, minorities are "irrelevant"? Remember: "Where all think alike, none think very much". Anyhow, good tune.
Thanks! I've having one, but I just silenced the RP stream in order to keep it that way.
In line with that written below, I don't care for much of U2's body of work. However, they have produced two handfuls of iconic songs in their 45 years of rock, and this is one of them.
It's a Beautiful Day, y'all!
You can be a RP listener and member of the community and dislike St Bonio and the Tax Dodgers. Strange but true. Plus minorities can put their oar in, despite being in a minority.
And unless RP has suddenly been taken over by you without any of us noticing, you shouldn't be telling folk to "move on elsewhere". I doubt that Bill & Becky appreciate a listener trying to drive other listeners, many of whom may be paying punters, away. Now if this were a U2-only station then you might have a point...
Worship St Bonio if you want - that's fine - but allow that others will be less enthusiastic about them or even (gasp) critical. One listener's Godlike is another's Sucko-barfo, and that's a damn good thing.
Sorry Will - didn't realise I had turned up in the U2 Appreciation Society website. Will, they are and have always been overrated. It is not a matter of "hating" the band - it is a matter of having these fops rammed down our throats ad infinitum, with scant regard to others. If this entitles me to the label of hater, well then, so be it.
Are you sure?
When? Now? Sure, their now 35 years into their run. Who else wasn't? They had a pretty good run though, as evidenced by the fact that so many people are sick of hearing their music everywhere they go.
Between you and me, I'd call that triumphant.
So well said... I totally agree ! I don't get it why people come here and just say " This song is bullshit..." if you don't like it, well then just move away, pass to the next one, or simply change your radio station !
VERY TRUE! If they don't like it, they should learn how to use the "skip button". ...problem solved! ...Then they can spare us from their drivel!
