It's time to come away on the changing tide
Time to come away, darling pretty
And I need you darling by my side
Heal me with a smile, darling pretty
Heal me with a smile and a heart of gold
Carry me awhile, darling pretty
Heal my aching heart and soul
Just like a castaway lost upon an endless sea
I saw you far away come to rescue me
Cast away the chains, darling pretty
Cast away the chains away behind
Take away my pain, darling pretty
And the chains that once were yours and mine
His guitar sound is like aural mercury, just flows like a silver river. Nicely put. ๐
Like Mozarts music does I think. It flows so effortlessly obvious.
Love. That. Melody.
That gorgeous guitar melody is just not long enough...
I don't understand why RP plays SO much Mark Knopfler or Dire Straits. Fine to play now and then but RP seems to consider him a "core" artist. I just don't get it.
I would have said this before I started listening to RP as well. I grew up in the 80s and heard plenty of Dire Straits on the radio. It was overplayed and while I liked it, I never loved it.
Then I started hearing Mr. Knopfler on RP and realized that he IS a core artist. It seems like every new track I hear from him (well, new to me) is another gem. Thanks for the intro, Bill!
I have no info on this but I met MK once and he is a very private man. If you see some of his recent concerts he hardly seems to notice the audience. Maybe comes from working with Bob Dylan so long!!!
But unlike Dylan he respect the audience with a perfect and warm rendition of the songs !
My only sad thought is, why didn't he attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame presentation with the rest of Dire Straits? It was so awkward for the band, and seemed disrespectful on his part. All I know is when he was asked if he was going to go he said, "I just don't feel it." That was really dismissive of his fellows who were there to get their just reward. All the other groups were able to play a piece but not Dire Straits. It was a very noticeable gap. Unless someone around here has the inside track, I guess I will never understand. Did he part ill company from the band?

As far as Darling Pretty goes - pretty classic, sublime, Knopfler. No frills... just gorgeousness.
Music appreciation is in the ear of the listener. I was just telling a friend of mine today how Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler have gradually become firmly embedded on my top 10 list of artists I absolutely love to listen to. One of the reasons I listen to RP is that Bill seems to think so, too.

Umm, what? This track alone should answer this "comment." Imho, it's gorgeous. He is a superb melodist. And a core guitarist AND movie track composer.
By popular demand.

Great
Yet another first for me here at RP.
And shame on me. I'm a big Knopfler fan. He's one of my very favorite guitarists. And I've not heard this before.
Not only will I now get it on iTunes, but I'm also sending a few of my measly bucks to this radio enterprise. With guitar pieces like that, is surely is a form of paradise.
And it's an instant 8.
