1964. At the "Twisted Wheel" Manchester UK. RIP John Lee.
All due respect to the many rock bands of the 60s covering old blues tunes, but sorry boys, you can't hold a candle to the originals!
The real deal.
Love the Blues in this mix
Thanks RP

Mr. Hooper was the store owner on Sesame Street. I don't think there was a Mr. Hooker on either show.

I can't get it out of my head that he's singing "God damn Virginia Jones"
His socks match his tie. Dapper.
Lyrics have never been John Lee's strong suit.
That harmonica, the voice, a stellar rollicking melody .. .. Hooker .. Dimples .. it's like Van Morrison ascended. You Da Man!
Some Taj Mahal would be nice too...(hint hint)
Jake and Elwood approved
Some folks do one thing well. Boom boom boom boom.
I keep waiting for the chord change that never comes!
I'm so conditioned to 12-bar blues that this makes me twitch.

I'd give my left n** to have the swagger of John Lee Hooker. I'd have to put an icepack on my junk every night. He was the dude.
J.L. Hooker is good, but not my taste. RP plays him a lot. Less is fine with me.

Just for fun, translate his lyrics into the Queen's English. Now sex it up with some bluesy sound. Not quite the same. Very white sounding though.similar motif to baby please dont go
If the previous LZ gets a 7.9, then, since they stole from the black blues artists, JLH should get a 15.8 for this.

Chet, Etta, and John Lee for lunch. Very nice
This is Dancin' Blues !

amazing what you can do with 1 chord
I just can't listen to this combination of harmonica and electric guitar without thinking about medicine that, ahem, makes things bigger.
Pretty awesome that there were blues records this raw being released in the late 90s.
That harmonica is killin'.
Yeah!

Sounds like they were having fun, but it's a bit like hearing about a party that you weren't invited to. Doesn't do anything for me, I'm afraid. Noisy, tuneless and almost lyric-less into the bargain.
I just love RP, the music and combinations just build and build into a wonderful experience - RP you are so much appreciated here!

I'm outnumbered by JLH fans, but I just can't stand him. Horny and humpy, and his music just makes me have to turn off the radio or switch the station. YES, I know he's an icon. He's just an icon to which I can't listen without feeling like I need to take a shower.

Well, the music is exciting, I can listen to John Lee, it's fun, he's a blues titan, but with these lyrics, such as they are, he always sounds constipated. It's the soundtrack for a Dulcolax commercial.

pretty effective too, I heard the opening and thought about the Viagra commercial.
Damn TV commercials: The opening riff from this is used on a series of Viagra ads. You know—for the man who knows how to use bottled water to cool an overheated Camaro; can pull a truck out of a mud hole with a team of horses; can improvise a fix for broken boom rig on a sloop. ED won't slow him down.
Like I said, damn TV commercials.

Doesn't get any better than this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saw John Lee on PBS a few years back...He was playing with Van Morrison on An Irish hillside...Van Morrion was playing the spoons...Awesome

When you rock as hard as John Lee did...you can wear anything you damn well please! I saw him do a blistering set at Gillies Night club probably around 1986 in Dayton. He tore the place up and then sauntered out with a pretty woman under each arm and a sly smile that said, "The blues have been good to me!"
The women would be under his arms. . . :)
