It's always cold inside the icehouse
Though the rivers never freeze
There's a girl outside the icehouse
I can see her clearly through the trees

Now she's dreaming of a new love
And she hopes he'll be there soon
She's got so long to wait for him
'Cause he needs another year to get there
She'll wait another lifetime longer

There's no love inside the icehouse

Devil lives inside the icehouse
At least that's what the old ones say
They say, he came a long time ago
He came here with the winter snow
Now it's colder every day

She's still dreaming through the summer
And she's hoping through the spring
She say's, she's got no time for winter nights
She doesn't notice as the days grow darker
She can't remember getting any older

There's no love inside the icehouse

Now she's dreaming of her new love
And she hopes he'll be there soon
She say's, she say's, she's got no time for winter nights
Doesn't notice as the days grow darker
She can't remember getting any older

There's no love inside the icehouse
There's no love inside the icehouse
The icehouse

Yeah he does quite a good Bowie impression at some points
I thought this was an obscure Bowie choon before I looked.

Fantastic Album.  As others have noted, they were actually called "The Flowers" when they released this album (I have it); hence, the release was Icehouse by The Flowers.
They then had to change their name due to a clash with another band with the same name, I believe.
They did this song live at the Countdown Music Awards (I'm thinking 1981); when Ivor comes in with the electric guitar towards the end of the track, I reckon they did the old "Spinal Tap" trick and turns his guitar amp up to 11 - it was awesome!

Its is the 40th anaversery of this very shortly (this month)!
Iva was on the Radio radio talking about it.
this could be shit. But that's why RP can throw it into an amazing mix. I love you. Music is my life. So glad I found you. X

Bill should follow this up with "Bad Company"
Good Tune!! I never heard of them before.  Thanx RP!
7 -> 8 for me as Im a fan of New Wave and Synth Wave and love the story the lyrics tell of lost love and unrequited love

Big Country fan myself...

The corresponding call-out would be

"In a Big Country" by Big Country from The Crossing.
Why do I LOVE this?
I wore out this cassette on my Clarion car stereo back in high school.
Good Tune! I never heard of them before. Thanx RP!

"Glam" is another great song, same album (Primitive Man)
One of my favorite bands from that time period! ❣️
I like how the song name, the band name and the album name are all the same... that's not very common....
A song title so good that they had to use it for the album name and the band name. Or is it the other way around...

If people want to hear a good Icehouse song, search for "Great Southern Land".
Ooooh. The cover art has ice AND a house. Genius.
Is this the most 1980 song ever?
Is it me? or is it getting cold in here ?
Saw them with Simple Minds at the Capitol Theater back in, um, the 80s sometime. Great show!
Crank up the volume!
Love this. I first saw Icehouse play when they were called Flowers it was in early 1978 on the Kidney Lawn at the then QIT. Memories are getting dim though.

Bowie?
From Syntax "Bliss" to this... just as I was reading a comment in the "Bliss" chat pointing out the similarity.  Well played, Bill, well played indeed.

Is this song about an Icehouse?...
Decided on a 9. This is really iconic in it's capturing the sound of the time. and it's still cool, no pun intended

bout Great Southern Land? My favorite.

Loved this from the first time I heard it on CFNY back in 1980. Seriously under rated band.

I didn't realize Bill was listening...when I said Bliss / Syntax had an Icehouse, Iva Davies feel.

Why can't this be purchased? I went down a dead end at Amazon trying to find some  version to buy...

Funny that sometimes present day tunes have an eighties sound to them, and for that one, it's almost the opposite (at least to my ears).
The 1980s vibe definitely comes across, but this sounds as though it was made more recently? Not sure what's giving me this impression. Like they could share a stage with MGMT. Icehouse and Management that's funny in itself :-)

I totally thought it was a new song with an 80s sound.  (Specifically, Duran Duran)  Don't remember this one from the actual 80s!
Reading/listening to the lyrics; wow, I am not going into the icehouse.
Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like Simon LeBon (Duran Duran)?

sounds like shades of "Stonehenge" by Spinal Tap                                                          "Stonehenge! Where the demons dwell
Where the banshees live and they do live well
Stonehenge! Where a man's a man
And the children dance to the Pipes of Pan"
Lovely to hear this again - one of my favourite songs 35 years ago, haven't heard it for quite some time.

Do you mean this sounds like it should have been released in 1950 instead of 1980?

Quite similar to The Cars
Icehouse was the opening act for a Roxy Music concert in the Arena of the Sydney Cricket Ground in the early 1980's (1981 or 1982) and the whole evening concert was great.

Icehouse never came to much and that was really Father Time calling the end of the road for Roxy Music...  but still great memories for me.
Brings back 80's in college memories when King Crimson, Flock O' Seagulls, Talking Heads, OMD and Japan were all on the turntables....thx for putting into rotation Bill!
I have the original Album and just about everything they ever produced. Over the years - always a great listen and I am NOT surprised RP has and plays it. Cool vibes as I remember the times from then to now. {#Music}

They were 6 years ahead of their time! (It's 36 years old)

I've always thought this was a great song.  First time I've heard it here. Cheers!
This should actually be credited as "Flowers"- Icehouse. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icehouse_(album)

This is arguably one of their worse songs.  But the fact that RP is playing Icehouse is great.  Try Great Southern Land, Uniform, or Taking This Town.
Whenever this song comes on, I think - don't people on RP hate it?! And I check the comments and reaffirm that there's a vocal group that does hate it.

And, yet...Bill continues to play it. I applaud him for standing up to us.

Agree. I would rather hear Crazy or Electric Blue even though they were over played because they were great songs.
Funny how people talk about "vinyl" like it's a long lost friend.  Put 100 audiophiles in a room who "think" they know the difference between vinyl and digital...

This song is actually mislabelled, the band were called Flowers for this album, they renamed to Icehouse afterwards. /trivia
LONG time no hear..quite nice

Ahhhhh.....high school.  Vinyl's in the rack still.
Remind me of Ultravox and the Fixx
A blast from the past...dam...missed it!
Not my favorite, but I am a huge fan and have all their vinyl...so just happy to hear any IH!
Haven't heard this one in an age.  Like this better than "Electric Blue", which seems to get played a lot.  Thumbs up!

It's always cold inside the electro music and I enjoy it.

This whole album was pretty good. I've always liked Icehouse.

The old is discovered new again…only on RP
First time I've heard this. A contemporary of Human League and you can certainly hear it.
And now here's Icehouse, from the band Icehouse, taken from their album, Icehouse.
First time I've ever heard this song or heard of the band.  Really like the tune. Thanks for playing it, RP.
High school memories.  Pretty avant garde in the red-neck town I was from.
Nice.

This is about as 80s as it gets, in the worst way... so why do I like it?
 had not heard this in probably 30 years, good vibe recollections.. {#Music}
Love Icehouse! Very under appreciated band from the 80's

It was either Alan Freeman or Tommy Vance who'd played this on the radio many years ago. I taped it (on a TDK SA90 of course).  What I thought was said at the end was ... "To drive the point home, Tripoli there, with Icehouse ..."  and then the tape stopped. Asking about a band called Tripoli drew blank looks from the record shops. Quite a while later I figured out what he said would have said was ... "To drive the point home triply there, with Icehouse, from the album Icehouse, the track called Icehouse."
Great to hear it again, good tracks on the album.

Nice anecdote! I know only too well this situation. Remember me back in the days, singing to the record shop owner (obviously without success). So painful, but what was I supposed to do, without the bands name, without a title? Damn, how I hated the radio-djs for that.
The youth of today is so incredibly lucky with "shazam" and all the informations from internet-databases like "discogs".

Still have this on vinyl. I probably haven't listened to it since 1980!
OH. MY. GOD.

I remember this...

lol. nice one Bill !!
I actually bought this CD - hadn't heard it in years!

Thanks Bill!
Stasis is a dish best served cold...
Wow... I thought it was Bowie!  Nice one.  Love it. :)
