With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
But there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?

Way out in the water
See it swimmin'

I was swimmin' in the Carribean
Animals were hiding behind the rocks
Except the little fish
But they told me, he swears
Tryin' to talk to me to me to me

Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?

Way out in the water
See it swimmin'

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse

tonight is awash in mediocre covers. I think the DJ is being mesmerized by blonde women half his age. I'm familiar with this, because my dad's criteria for buying records has always been large breasts on the album cover.
Far better than original because she left out that horrible screeching guitar chord
Every version of this song brings me goosebumps. Certainly high praise for the original!
i had this cover at a 1, but listened again and bumped it up on the strength and clarity of her voice. I'm a bit biased because I don't like the original.
what a voice!

No there's not. There are only new lovely things to be found in it.
the same Storm Large that sang for Pink Martini? She does a little better covering the Pixies.

You must be thinking of Al Vivino
Pixies on ludes
Fantastic song. Fantastic performer.  She's tragically underrated.

I find that there's something here that's not in the original. And Vice/Versa. I like them both and also the piano version as well.

Wrong. Also, wrong. In addition - WRONG.

Otherwise, not correct and very very wrong.

Storm Large is utterly amazing! She puts on a fantastic show. Catch her live.

i remember her on Rock Star: Supernova. but, i don't remember if she won.
A possible answer comes from Alien Sex Fiend: "my brain is in the cupboard above the kitchen sink, it 's all wet and pink" :o)
Pretty but shows how the lyrics are nothing.

For the love of the Pixies.
Apparently I really liked this song one day, but today. Where is my mind? PSD
Sounds like a Lloyd Webber stage show
Seems like this should be followed by 'Fix You'
This is way better than the original
Being a resident of Portland myself, I've seen Storm live a few times. She is loud, outlandish, captivating, sexy and just -- fun. We love her here.

Speaking as a test engineer, a 'PASS' means it works, a 'FAIL' means it does not.
So i guess you meant that it works (for you), and if that isn't what you meant, then your comment is a 'FAIL'...
Just saying...

Yep, the pseud David Byrne. No loss IMO.
Powerful singer, powerful song, something didn't mesh unfortunately.
what a nice segway from the hip to a really good pixies cover  you're the best bill!
I'm hearing a bit of Coldplay's Fix You here. Which makes me think Coldplay was subconsciously borrowing from the Pixies

There isn't a cover version of this song that adds anything to the original, but this has to be the worst yet.

I just wish artists would stop trying to re-interpret this track and leave well alone. It's a grimy, gritty, discordant rock classic. It just doesn't work as a saccharine ballad.

Repent sinner.  Perhaps you will be reborn with an actual life.

Graceful and perfect interpretation.  Exactly opposite of your silly comment.  Storm is a monster talent.  Wake up and smell the roses.
Where is my mind?
Where is that large automobile?
Where is my beautiful house?
Where is my beautiful wife?

Barely average. Beautiful voice, not the right song to cover.

Also agree. Beautiful voice, just not the song she should have picked to cover.

They call her Stormy Monday.

But Tuesday's just as bad...
Wait, is her birth name really Susan Storm? Like as in The Fantastic Four?
I keep liking her more and more...
A certain TV show put me off this song, for life I thought, but I quite like this version.
SO glad she's a Portlander and still hangs with Pink Martini from time to time!
I love this version more than the original. such intensity
I like that album art.

Much better than the original.
Way underrated
A butcher job of a good song
I liked how it started, with the piano and soft voice -- then it went into Opera and I liked it much less
The Pixies of the Opera. 7 from me.
This is okay, though as far as "stripped-down covers of Where Is My Mind" go, I think I prefer the Maxence Cyrin cover.

I really tried to like this but I just couldn't.  It just seems to miss the point on so many different levels. My first "1". I didn't want to rate it so low but "2" translates as "marginal" and I really can't find any redeeming qualities for this track.
That being said, does anyone else out there in RP land find the rating descriptors rather odd? I mean to drop from "marginal" to "sicko barfo" is quite a plummet.  "5" is translated as "decent"! For me 5 out of 10 indicates mediocre. there's surely nothing decent about mediocrity?

I don't know how one "tries" to like a song. Ok, you don't like it. Fine. You don't have to.

Yes, it can remind you of Les Miserables, but then again, I like Les Miserables.

Two different posters spelled the 1 rating text as "sicko barfo".  I had to check to make sure it hadn't changed.
Why have I never heard of her before now?

I'm so happy to discover this on Radio Paradise. As usual.

Well this is a brave cover.  I think I really like it?  I should probably stop reading comments before they convince me that I hate it after all.

I agree! She sings in her way, which is not the Pixies'. I like both versions equally.

Her ability to infuse a song with phonic sensitivity and sentiment takes a cute but mediocre song to a new nevel of aesthetic sublimity.
Just gave it a 7 song grows on you
Great voice, great cover. Love her name.

In counterpoint to the lame hater comments ...
I would be honored to accompany Susan anytime on bass and vocal harmony.

Xtra +1 rating for being a homegirl. Fellow Berklee College of Music Alumnus.
good songs get covered.  I am so glad.

What is lost is any talent to interpret. Just total maudlin crap.
One truly good cover of this song is Maxence Cyrin. Piano only. Album "Novo piano".
I heard the first 2 notes or so and identified this song, even though this is the first time hearing this version. Also I scarcely know the original. Either the melody or choice of chords was sufficient to uniquely ID this piece. Seems like a pretty good feat of composition.
Yeah, pretty sure this doesn't work. 2.
I think this is great . . . . 9
Some songs simply do not translate well.
Right up there with the 70's hit "There's Got To Be A Morning After" ...bad.

Oh man is this bad.  I saw Storm Large perform with Pink Martini and she is perfect in that setting but please no more Pixies covers!

I initially thought so as well, but I think this might actually be a bit of a tongue in cheek production. I read up a little on the singer, and I'm certain she does not take herself nearly so seriously as the tone of her singing here would suggest.

I can't help but be critical of renditions of this song  because it is covered so much.   This is nice  but you have to do something different when a song is covered this much.
No not this.  Play Maxence Cyrin's cover.
Someone please inform me, when she will have found her mind....
Pixies: The Musical

I can't believe the low score here. Storm Large unarrogantly sings this song conservatively, with plenty of talent to spare. Unapparent to the untrained ear, Storm borders on genius. Storm is co-lead singer with China Forbes in Pink Martini. Y'all should check her out in that roll before spouting opinions here too hastily. I gave her a 9 for outstanding.
Deserves a 0 and a kick to the nuts
While I appreciate the contributions the Pixies have made to music, they are not to my taste. And while I have rated some slow covers of harder rock songs very low here, this is not one of them. Her voice is just too damned good. I'm siding with the likers on this one.
Don't care about the detractors. This is a great performance!
Covers will always be judged against the original and unfortunately, for me, this one falls way short. It was saved from the Skip button only because the original is just soooo goood. A great voice but the wrong song, in my humble opinion.

Feels a bit like Nana Mouskouri singing Amy Winehouse.
Just this past year, she joined in with the Louisville Orchestra on a recording featuring a composition by the Conductor, as well as pieces by her, Cole Porter, and Aaron Copland. A damn fine recording, I think.

dj should also play pixies original.  then this cover.   perhaps comment in addition to the 81 posts, (is 81 a large or significant # of posts?)
but is the dj a robot? on the play list  page would it be interesting to see the # of posts in addition to the rating etc.
Storm and this rendition reminds me of Hellsongs' (Harriet Ohlsson) lounge metal treatment of heavy metal classics, which I like somewhat better than the originals, mainly because I can actually hear them! That's not the case with Storm's cover—I like the Pixies original—but I like this, too. Plus, that photo below is a deal-sealer!
Just take a moment to listen to that voice!
