Let me go
I don't wanna be your hero
I don't wanna be a big man
Just wanna fight like everyone else

Your masquerade
I don't wanna be a part of your parade
Everyone deserves a chance to
Walk with everyone else

While holding down
A job to keep my girl around
And maybe buy me some new strings
And her and I out on the weekends

And we can whisper things
Secrets from my America dreams
Baby needs some protection
But I'm a kid like everyone else

So let me go
I don't wanna be your hero
I don't wanna be a big man
Just wanna fight with everyone else

Ooooohh
Ooooohh

agree with you on the song and enjoyed Linklater's movies. Wasn't a big fan of either actor but they grew on me over the course of this movie.

I love coming to the comments section reading the comments, finding one I like and then try to thumb, and then discover that I thumbed it years ago.
Just raised it a point for the haters.

Heard it too often at the time, but it's been long enough. It's about time to hear it again. Good song.
This bland pop: sounds nice but says nada.  I could only muster a 5 for this little ditty.

The comment you have singled out seems to me to be perfectly justified.  In any case, Bill and Rebecca have seen fit to have an unmoderated comments section so whether you like it or not, people are going to post stuff.  My (unsought) advice would be not to read the comments if they upset you.

But enough about your song comment.

I have been listening to RP for probably eight years now. I love it as do many, many people who have discovered it. I donate and I hear about songs and musicians that I never would have otherwise. I am grateful.  I spend far to much of my work life commenting on random songs here and there. It's my own problem, not RPs. At it's best, people's comments inform us about the song, the band or even music theory or history in general. We hear people's stories of triumph, defeat or intrigue. I love that. LOVE it.
There are plenty of ignorant, hasty negative comments that really don't contribute to the thread and are largely forgotten. But today I want to mention a category that gets lots of attention and lots of likes. It is comments like the one above that are a snarky response to a casual negative post. I don't mean to single this one out because it's one of 1000s I suspect. It FEELS good to put someone in their place; to easily put someone down for the benefit of yourself and others. The internet is littered with this stuff (and, clearly, a lot worse).
Let's raise the bar here. Let's strive to be respectful and kind to one another. Certainly in the US, we seem to be getting more harsh and intolerant of others who disagree with us. Let's make RP a different place. If you disagree with someone, great! Give us your intelligent or witty response, but can we try to act like we are a community here who have a similar love of great music and it's diversity?
That would improve my experience here.
POP GOLD!!!

Excellent
Pleasant without being vacuous.
Who is this?!! I love it. How is it these gems just keep popping up on RP? It's like someone is intentionally hiding jewels in the bushes like easter eggs.

Yeah, you are clearly too evolved.
This band reminds me of Blind Pilot.

...and that's a GOOD thing.
Lightweight fluff and a really lovely song. Sometimes songs fall into more than one category for me. I landed at 7

Imagine if protocol was to delete any song that is disliked by any listener at any time. I would think that there would be very few songs in the database left to play. Someone's trash is someone's heart pang. This is just that for me. I truly love this tune. Hopefully your ears will manage to find a resting place.
Man! Some people just hate everything, I guess... This song captures a mood sooo well.

Almost a 10 now...Awesome.

Definitely. A huge disappointment that it didn't.

Wha?  might not be your style but I'd hardly call it amateurish.
The guy does the mix tape of Beatles songs after they broke up, and I thought, "That's me."

first time I listened the whole way thru. I would just listen to the first half and then switch/psd to something else. 2nd half is much better.

This music remembers all the girls I've met before!
"Maybe we need some protection, but I'm a kid like everyone else..."
Just watched the DVD of "Thanks for sharing"(2012) a nice little 3* movie in which I was very surprised by the acting debut? of Alecia Moore (Pink) she did a great job btw. This track was played over the credits - it caught my attention and I just had to check to see if I had heard it before on RP! {#Yes} 8-9.
Just saw the Ethan Hawke film "Boyhood".
This song was used nicely late in the film.

Love the song; simultaneously melancholy and uplifting.

sweet soft silky harmonies..{#Music}
A case where the band title is longer than the song title it would be easy to think it was the other way round.
Bumped to 9.   Excellent
Oh dear, I completely forgot to report on their live performance.  It has been a while but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this band live.  I still haven't gotten around to buying any of their music but they are on my ever-growing list...  It was a brief, early set in a festival setting but they were a very talented bunch and the vocals lived up to my expectations.  I was impressed by the variety of their sound since this was the only song of theirs that I knew.  I think the highlight was their last song, St Croix, which was apparently the hit all the kids were into.

I went with my little brother who is half my age and it turns out is a big fan of the band and completely infatuated by the keyboard player which was pretty cute :)
The most played song in German radio stations this time!
Great to hear some good vocal harmonies.
This reminds me of styles of pop tunes from the '60s, as well as a few more recent tunes of Mojave 5. Breaking the Ice and such.

This is definitely one of those songs that makes you stop everything and listen. I don't do that a lot but i gave it a 10 from the first listen. Heard it about 30 times since, and it's still a 10. So what if it's simple - perfection is also simple. And this song has surely earned its place in my life soundtrack.

I've given a 10 a while ago, wanting each time I hear the song to increment its rate. It should surely be a 15 now ;)

It gives me the impression that this song carry inside something more than good music, something that awakes a more essential emotion.
An 8 this time around, moving on up. Will have to check out the cd...

I see the other song being played on RP isnt so well recieved.

I've listened to some of their other songs on youtube yesterday (easy to look for them) and I must admit, it's quite good too. But "Hero" stays exceptional for me. I would like to rate it higher than 10, and even much higher.
i can't help adding yet another comment with the phrase "i can't help..." in it.  good song,  too.
Simple, clean, and catchy with a unique point of view. I like it...a lot.
This one's wearing out fast.

Just last week, I was under house arrest in Karachi, Pakistan...heard it my court-assigned hostel. Week before that, Chucky Cheese in Topeka, Kansas. And, finally, three days previous...I was getting a review at Clown School and it was suddenly was piped into the speakers in the room I was in.
It's too bad...'cause I like it.  But I won't soon.

Hodgie! You got your post read out loud. Bask in your 15 minutes seconds of fame! Seriously, that's a great post and I enjoyed Bill verbalizing it. Awesome. {#Clap}

Sweet little pop tune. Gets a "7" on first listen...{#Roflol}
Vapid, pretentious crapola. Turning off RP now...As long as there's a Isaac Hayes or Marvin Gaye record or 2 left to listen to, this ain't soiling the air  here in the Bear Cave!
Simple, Catchy & Affective!   I Like.

Nicely put. I don't think it warrants more than a 7, but it catches me every time.
The catchy hook of a great pop song, but in a style that is soothing to the ears. Excellent!
Love it, one of the best from last year!

Thought this was The Shins at first. I like it. Music deserves a far more classy, creative cover art. Not that crazy about the band name either...

I really like this tune quite a lot.

First heard it on KCRW music stream.  Great addition to RP playlist.

First time I've heard this, and I'm glad I had on my headphones. A very nice tune. I'll look for more from them!
Just not into these "Glee" songs. Leave them in the pubs and bars.

Same for me. It gives me a real great impression. It goes from 7 to 8 this time, but I expect it will go higher.

I don't find the right words, but I feel "soul" in this music, it touches me deeply.
