So I'm there charging around with a juggernaut brow
Overdraft, speeches and deadlines to make
Cramming commitments like cats in a sack
Telephone burn and a purposeful gait

When out of a doorway
The tentacles stretch of a song that I know
And the world moves in slow-mo
Straight to my head like the first cigarette of the day

And it's you and it's me
And we're sleeping through the day
And I'm five years ago
And three thousand miles away

Do I have time? A man of my caliber stood in the street
Like a sleepwalking teenager I know
And I dealt with this years ago
I took a hammer to every memento

But image on image like beads on a rosary
Pulled through my head as the music takes hold
And the sickener hits, I can work till I break
But I love the bones of you that I will never escape

And it's you and it's me
And we're sleeping through the day
And I'm five years ago
And three thousand miles away

And I can't move my arm
For the fear that you will wake
And I'm five years ago
And three thousand miles away

And I'm five years ago
And three thousand miles away
And I'm five years ago
And three thousand miles away

And it's you and it's me
And we're sleeping through the day
And I'm five years ago
And three thousand miles away

This song always stops me in my tracks, mostly due to the subject matter. Hearing it always makes me remember a time when a certain other song featured in my life during a time of uncertainty, but it's Elbow who make me catch my breath, not the tune they bring to mind.  (Empire of the Sun's 'We Are The People', in case anyone's bothered.)

This album is a killer from start to finish.  Love it - and Elbow - to tiny pieces!
Know every word to this album........boy talk about growing on you......this music has lots of meaning to me.

Totally !
RP has turned me into quite the Elbow fanboy.
It's up to a 9 from me today, I'm afraid.  Sounds better than ever.

I can still hear "What Are You Afraid Of?": West Indian Girl

plus something from The Bends.
Turn it up and give those woofers a workout...ooooohhhhh yeaaahhhhh
Amazing voice, writing, and playing. Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd8cnPUMPF0 for pure beauty.

Bob Dylan claimed that distinction many years ago.

Guitar rates a 10 all by itself
I often think the vocals sound like Peter Gabriel.  On this track I'm hearing restrained Pete Townsend...
Elbow fans in the SF Bay Area- they're playing at The Fox Theater in Oakland end of May, 5/27 !!
One thing about this group: there's a lot going on in each song! It's all well done, and the overall effect can be quite interesting and catchy!

Great cd, great band and great live!

More Elbow: bumper stickers should be issued!

{#Clap}
New discovery.  Sweet
I discovered this band only recently, I mean discovered them for myself, I assume that they have been here all along. Anyway, I think they are fantastic. I saw them on Jools Holland and then watched a concert on Palladia and that cemented the fandom.

One thing I can tell you for certain, my brother, is that I will be buying all of the work of Elbow.  In time, my friend, in time...{#Mrgreen}

I was just thinking to myself " What is it that makes me love these guys so much?" and couldn't come up with a specific answer.
But love their stuff, I surely do.
Interesting segue!  Making Elbow - "Bones of You" follow Boxer Rebellion - "Diamonds" really emphasizes the piss sour noise that Elbow make.  Foul.

Thanks, Bill, for turning me on to this band ... although it seems I was asleep "5 years ago and 5,000 miles away" when this was released.  Oh well, better late than never.
I really like this song. It's got some really interesting sounds going on, and it's especially impressive at high volume!
Elbow...

I used to be not very fond of these guys, but now I really like them quite a bit.
This is good.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Elbow perform in the London Olympics closing ceremony.

Gotta say I'm liking everything I hear from these boys.
Might have to buy this disc.

Finally got to see these guys live back in October.  I'd wanted to see them for about 10 years, and just never was able to for various reasons.  Boy did they deliver; my only complaint is that I wish it lasted longer.  The sound was great, and the synth bass in this song was just awesome — I could feel it in my throat {#Bananajam}

I saw them in October at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival. What a great show! Guy Garvey really knows how to work the crowd.

It was much too short. That was a great afternoon of music with The Low Anthem, Dr. John, DeVotchka and Elbow all on the same stage.

...Gasp! ...No! ...This can't be...

...ought I just to let it pass?

.....I mean, really, it's no big deal, right?

.......the song was just winding down into everlasting regret with a horn playing Summertime...

.........and it would have faded out in a few seconds anyway...

...........and after all, that ending probably does go on a bit too long anyway...

......but...        but......

*choke*

{#Fever}

Bill, I've never heard you talk over the ending of a song before. Is this one of those cosmic whimpers, that foretell the beginning of the end? of everything? {#Cry}
OK, so I'm probably overreacting. {#Devil_pimp}

RP is still the best! {#Sunny}

It's already out in the UK (March 7) and on March 8 it was released on iTunes in the U.S. & Canada.
I've seen a few songs from the new album were already uploaded to the LRC, hope Bill & Rebecca accept them. as it's a quietly brilliant album (IMO).
Hmmm... thought it was Muse, at first... will have to investigate further...
Elbow is my favorite band name after a body part next to the Cleavage Cindarellas and Buttcrack Barracudas.
New CD coming out April 12.

I"ve never been a fan of Elbow, but this is really pretty cool.

Is that an autoharp (zither), or is someone strumming the piano strings?

Really?  I flipped over to the playlist because I thought that it was Pete Townshend.

Awesome.
Wonderful.  Love the progression and melody.

If it's not too late, spring for the CD+DVD version with the live concert at BBC.  Worth the extra bucks.
By far the best album of the last few years. Wonderful melodies, sophisticated arrangements, soul and passion all in harness together with a great and highly individual vocal performance.

Right with you on that.

The background vocals on the chorus sound like something from a Disney movie...from the 40's. It's a small world! {#Cheesygrin}

Finally!  Of all the terrific songs on this terrific CD, this one always screamed "Radio Paradise" whenever I heard it, and I've tried to upload it a couple times (had technical issues and was too lazy to convert from a m4a to mp3).

Elbow is back in the studio now - I'm looking forward to them dominating RP in early 2011 (hopefully).

Oh boy, a new Elbow album!

This song might be a late arrival to RP, but it's a happy addition to the playlist.

Made my 3 top CDs !  Thanks R.P.

Really digging the electronic sounds...  Sounds like a winner. 8.
I hear wisps of Roger Daltry
Thank you for finally adding this song to the rotation!!!! {#Notworthy}
This is one song from the original album that is at least as good as the Abbey Road/BBC Concert Orchestra version, IMO.
This Elbow album is one that everyone i know that knows my musical tastes expects me to like but it just does nothing for me.  I'm afraid this track is no different for me.  Its marginally better than the other ones I've heard I suppose.  Oh well there's plenty of stuff I like that other people don't get I suppose.
I have got to buy this album. Every song I've heard is really good.
Is this the first time this song has been played on RP? Shocking to me! Great song from my choice for the CD of the decade!
god I love this band
