On the black Sunday afternoon
Sun is pale like the moon
When you look to the sky
Holy holy why
All fades into blue
On the black Sunday afternoon

No good time to walk alone
On a bike riding home
When you look to the sky
Holy holy why
All fades into blue
On the black Sunday afternoon

Bad luck come at just a car
On the right side hears a call
And sees a black ref flying low
Bother head no mistletoe
Nothing really moves
On black Sunday afternoons

You wake up in a water-bed
and on the back of your head
A lump and just a tiny hole
Almost no light at all in here
When you call
You can't hear your own voice at all

They gather up, something's wrong
The ask around, no one knows
Well have you been where the rivers cross
By the water in the moss
Nothing really moves
On black Sunday afternoons

Sun is pale like the moon
When you look to the sky
Holy holy, holy holy why
All fades into blue
On black Sunday afternoons

I saw Anna Ternheim live in 2009 at the Haldern Pop Festival in Germany. She played this and other songs from this album. She had a musician in the band who played the violin on a wood saw. That was incredible. A performance that I have carried in my heart for years.

went to see if this was used in a (bleak) series of the sort that's on my telly lately; found a reference to a particularly bad dust storm. great music. if you think you have problems, check out the history of the duststorms, or read The Grapes of Wrath.  huh, a little snowstorm to shovel, no problem...
A great song, very atmospheric. Black poetry!
Hey, you can't play this on a Saturday afternoon!
A great body of work by this artist. This is a brilliant lyric!
Beautiful Voice

Certainly "rock" music has become more egalitarian in the last 20 years, but I bet RP plays more women musicians than most other internet stations.

Also a large number of excellent Scandinavian female artists, such as Agnes Obel, Eivør, Karin Dreijer, Ebba Forsberg etc. who I likely would not have run into otherwise.
I had been living in Japan for 9 years when I discovered her last year and with cuts from Chris Rea and Suzanne Vega created a mix that is still propelling me forward into 2022 back in Albuquerque. Amazing lyrics, feelings, voice.
hmmm after hearing this a few times - I have learned to love it… The lo-fi clicks, the fingered guitar in the background, heavy reverb on her voice, and the melodic heavily processed keys… it’s beautiful

Much much better than Bat for Lashes.
Not like I (or anyone probably) want to live in an All Anna Ternheim All The Time world-o-bleak. Except when, yeah, I hear an Anna Ternheim song. Figure Anthony Bourdain, RIP,  was engulfed in a mind that was this song at its purest. Love killed that man, sure as this song can send you into a bad place if you're not in a strong place. Guess I'm saying a little AT goes a long way.
Love this woman and love the song!

I think more of Frida Snell or Emiliana Torrini.
But I very much love listening to Natasha too!

Ahh, The Bridge. Would that my local network could produce anything that gripping.
I am going to see her next Tuesday for the third time. I hope she will play Black Sunday Afternoon on what will probably be a beautiful Blue Tuesday Night.
viking blues, interesting
I love a few of Anna's songs, but this is my favorite by far.. and the theme is missing children, which hits home with me due to scenarios of my youth....

There is something grey and depressing about winter Sunday afternoons after the days have shortened and the weather closes in. Best to spend them getting slowly sozzled in nice bright pubs surrounded by people :*)

Another discovery for me on RP.

Good stuff !
Stops me cold every time I hear this.  And yes, the live version is better - I miss the whistling when I listen to the CD.

Not quite as good as ( enter your favourite modern female singer singwriter here ie edie brickell - beth orton etc  )

Bill did play Bjork's version in days of yore.
Cool song. Great voice.
Aaaah , very calm song but is a little repetitive

Whoa, G! Sorry I missed it before on "nearly every day". Must have been distracted by, oh, I don't know, work, or life. I'll listen more attentively next time. My bad.
Need this one too...where's Santa?
Thanks Bill, another great little album, played it just last night whilst cooking the roast, nice!

In b/w because the colours just frankly looked disgusting :P A picture I like because it shows her apart from that dark and shy artist/person she accused of beeing all the time :)

Thanks for all your images Calypso, Great work!!!

They have similar voices, but musically they're pretty different.  Of course, to some listeners here, all female singers sound alike.

Nice.

Anna Ternheim.

"Today must have been one of the strangest days
I found a place where I could stay
And people say that it will kill me,
But they don't understand
People never do, but it makes sense to me
To be senseless to change my plans for you

It's a new secret I have found
And I'm off solid grounds for you"

do they still make water beds?
I have the cd. It's a pleasure to listen to her voice. Nice melodies{#Boohoo}

I really liked this song and a few others from different albums played here. This was the first I purchased and was unfortunately very disappointed. The rest of the album lacks the substance of this song.

i realized i like this station because i like  lyrics which are—-interesting in some way, and most of the music is excellent. She;s good.
I like the Sundays, by the way...that woman had a pretty voice, too.

Well done...
Anna's voice reminds me of a local singer songwriter whom I love - Geri X.  She splits her time between the Tampa, Florida area and southeast Wisconsin.  Check her out.
You can tell this music is mixed by a person, he seems to default to the same good music all the time!

I really hate it today, and it seems I did last time as well. Not gonna rate it without another listen.

This is a bit different then her older stuff. I like it...
