Some really cool Eno/U2 soundscapey stuff going on in this tune, especially in the "Fez" portion... pity about the rather uninspired Bono-isms atop it!
This is the first time I've rated a song "1 sucko-barfo".
   In fact, before now I've never rated a song below a 6!

U-2 must pass

:(

well, THAT was pretty forgettable!
Brian Eno: come back please!!!  {#Sorry}  U2 needs you ...

Bono: after Achtung Baby and Zooropa, aren't you ashamed about making this shit...

BTW, listened to this album a few times now, and I find more great details each and every time.

THIS is a non argument.
There are many "great" details in a pile of poo as well.
Hah hah, the old schizophrenics can't decide if they want to be Coldplay or Radiohead when they grow up..

{#Roflol}
funny. the words "sucko-barfo" come to mind when i hear songs like this these days...
Is this one of the crappy songs they did from this album on snl last time around? Both were so lame and indistinguishable, I guess it's hard to tell these days anymore with their latest crapola! {#Think}

Bleucch! Too much information! Do you realise that that image will stay with me all day? The horror, the horror...

Yes Boner does it all for love....
Don't hate. U2 rocks. {#Roflol}

Tom Waits has gone from almost being able to sing to unintelligible marble-mouthed grumbling.

Unless you were using Tom as an ironic example, of course...

Is U2 a new band or something?  I've never heard of them...
I kind of enjoyed hearing Bono have an orgasm just now
I've suddenly realized that you can only listen to RP on a Mac with headsets ... the 'tinty' sound is too obvious. My dear wife across the way here in our 'office' at home can't work with music in the background. Weirdo. I'm the opposite, of course. And I'm within range of a good whack, so I'd better be careful saying this. It's okay. We're cool. Slapping on the headsets as we speak ... now THAT'S more like it.
hey,,, i made the overall rating for this song go up a 10th of a point from 5.8 to 5.9, with my rating of 8,,,that's Most Excellent Bill,,,,,You said it Ted,,,,, I feel like I really matter nowwow in the general schemes of things. muahh =)

Nothing much.

My favorite albums (by anyone, not just U2) tended to be ones that I didn't care for or at least didn't think were all that great when I first heard them. So I'm hoping this is one of those, because it seems like a bunch of B-sides.

This is my favorite of the bunch so far tho. 6.

Here, here!
I despised both the Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby the first few spins
Now I'd be stranded on a desert island with them {#Cowboy}

He used to have an amazing voice, huh? Too many years of chain smoking. Still has the emotion, but the notes get pretty shaky. Not aging as nicely as someone like Tom Waits or Chris Smither for me.

Ahhhhhhhhhh....always liked Echo and the Bunnymen. I'm glad some other band didn't steal their sound and built a career out of it, that would really suck.

Round of milk please!

are you missing an ear, by chance?

That's two non-arguments IMHO. A lot of great bands & artist are extremely recognisable - Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Stones, the Who, the list is endless. Being reckognisable is not a negative as such. And I personally think U2 did a better job than most reinventing themselves over and over again.

And the fact that they are mad popular does not make them a bad band either. Sometimes (rarely enough) the general public seems to get it right, taste-wise... believe it or not... {#Roflol}

Sooooo.... if you don't like the song, or U2 in general, just say so. Have faith in your likes and dislikes, be honest!

BTW, listened to this album a few times now, and I find more great details each and every time. It's already growing on me....

So, in the REINVENT YOURSELF contest, who wins?  Madonna, Alec Guiness, U2?  I'm not sure quality should come into play here...but sheer inventiveness should.  NO WAIT, I'VE GOT IT — Neil Young!
It was pretty good before Bono started singing. Not bad, though.

You give this a 3 ehh?  You obviously don't write or perform music. Freakin' critics. {#Snooty}

My favorite song from the brilliant new album.
Moment of Surrender and Breathe are better tunes.
It's got a nice little bass thing happening in there.

If it weren't so condemning, this song would be much more clever were it called 'The Forgettable Fire'.

Oh Lordy, not that argument again! :-) Got a chance to see Echo last year...better than expected show. As for this U2 tune, my first impression is a 7.

Ahhhhhhhhhh....always liked Echo and the Bunnymen. I'm glad some other band didn't steal their sound and built a career out of it, that would really suck.
...from Tinariwen to Fez... a desert trip... noticed?
My jury is still in the little room arguing with itself about this tune, but you can't deny the brilliance of segueing this out of Tinariwen - Cler Achel.

This is great. It reminds being deep in the bowels of the medina in Fez Morocco. Mindblowing experience!!!!!!

I'll have to hear more of this to let a fair chance at a rating sink in.  First impression is that there are a lot of familiar sounds, but I'm not sure that I love how they are pulled together.

I know what you mean....the song seems like its always on the verge of taking off for me, but so far it hasn't...

I wish this song were as good as the others from this album that have gotten RP play already.

I don't remember his name, but the fez is familiar...
