Some really cool Eno/U2 soundscapey stuff going on in this tune, especially in the "Fez" portion... pity about the rather uninspired Bono-isms atop it!
This is the first time I've rated a song "1 sucko-barfo".

Is this one of the crappy songs they did from this album on snl last time around? Both were so lame and indistinguishable, I guess it's hard to tell these days anymore with their latest crapola!

I've suddenly realized that you can only listen to RP on a Mac with headsets ... the 'tinty' sound is too obvious. My dear wife across the way here in our 'office' at home can't work with music in the background. Weirdo. I'm the opposite, of course. And I'm within range of a good whack, so I'd better be careful saying this. It's okay. We're cool. Slapping on the headsets as we speak ... now THAT'S more like it.

My favorite albums (by anyone, not just U2) tended to be ones that I didn't care for or at least didn't think were all that great when I first heard them. So I'm hoping this is one of those, because it seems like a bunch of B-sides.

That's two non-arguments IMHO. A lot of great bands & artist are extremely recognisable - Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Stones, the Who, the list is endless. Being reckognisable is not a negative as such. And I personally think U2 did a better job than most reinventing themselves over and over again.
And the fact that they are mad popular does not make them a bad band either. Sometimes (rarely enough) the general public seems to get it right, taste-wise... believe it or not...
Sooooo.... if you don't like the song, or U2 in general, just say so. Have faith in your likes and dislikes, be honest!

Moment of Surrender and Breathe are better tunes.
It's got a nice little bass thing happening in there.

If it weren't so condemning, this song would be much more clever were it called 'The Forgettable Fire'.

...from Tinariwen to Fez... a desert trip... noticed?
My jury is still in the little room arguing with itself about this tune, but you can't deny the brilliance of segueing this out of Tinariwen - Cler Achel.
This is great. It reminds being deep in the bowels of the medina in Fez Morocco. Mindblowing experience!!!!!!

I wish this song were as good as the others from this album that have gotten RP play already.
I don't remember his name, but the fez is familiar...
