We saw Bonnie Raitt in concert not too long ago. She intro'ed this by saying "I still can't believe I'll never get to sing it with him again". Made it that much more poignant.
She is the real deal.

ours was not an absolutely perfect performance, but sitting on Humarock Beach by an off-season fire and singing along with my brother's accoustic guitar it was perfect for me! I love Bonnie's music and she sings in a range my older voice still handles

Listenin to this towering classic I'm focused on Prine's twangy, gravely voice. Compare it to say,  Randy Newman, and the contrast is real. Prine is THE REAL DEAL. Randy Newman, heck even Bonnie Raitt, all pretenders

Actually the 'cheese' remark referred to a different song than this one, and one that did not even involve Ms. Raitt or Mr. Prine.  See remarks below.  There is no cheese anywhere on this gorgeous tune.

Mr. Prine, man, I first was made aware of him watching Austin City Limits away long time ago on public television... his show was great writtin word, super real voice, laughing one song and then silent sobbing to the next.

Every once in awhile Bill plays 'Sam Stone'. My all-time fave JP tune is 'Muhlenberg County', but he has so many great songs. One of the best songwriters ever.

Saw them in concert here many years ago.  Great show!  There was some guy yelling for them to do a certain song during the first part of the show.  He was "removed" at intermission.  We were all thankful for that.

I had a friend a while back who sang a very nice version of this song.  She's the one that first helped rescue my musical tastes from complete disaster (a bit later, the other was of course our illustrious DJ).

A great songwriter, Prine with Bonnie in tribute to the great Steve Goodman another musician that we lost way to early whos most famous song I guess was City of New Orleans recorded by Arlo Guthrie also  wrote You Don't Even Call Me by My Name recorded by David Alan Coe and  was a guitar player of amazing talents.

Bonnie sang this at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival a couple of years ago. Beautiful setting, her voice echoing off the box canyon, an unbelievable sky and my girl at my side. Unforgettable evening.
