Murals make it right, well, how can that explain?
Nobody can tell what the hell they're even saying
No one sees it's easier to change
No one sleeps and no one stays awake
No one complains

And I'll find wherever you go
And I'll help with things you don't know
And I'll get you out of the show
And I'll find wherever you go

It's things you have to give and never come around
There's opportunity to tread instead of drown
Remarks will make the living settle down
They call them markets instead of towns
They like how it sounds

Most of us are wrong
Most of us agree
Must have been the wrong
Message we received

If you gotta choose, I've gotta change
And if you've got the truth, I've gotta trade
And if you've got a feud, I've got a fade
My heart will wear you out

Yeah, my heart will wear you down
Yeah, my heart will wear you down
Yeah, my heart will wear you down

Must have live album. 20 minute version of Cortez the Killer is brilliant.
I'm a big fan of Neil ( and fellow Winnipegger ) but this stands alone and is awesome!
I can see the similarities, but these guys have more substance.
Please ask Neil Young.

Big Neil influence in the music, big Dali influence for the cover art.

It's probably not just you; to a lot of people who post in these song comments, everything has "shades of Pink Floyd" - or they seem to want to believe that.  Maybe Floyd is the only musical frame of reference for a lot of people.   I can hear the clear Neil Young influence in this number, but Pink Floyd?  Whatever - everyone hears different stuff in music.

No PF there. NY ... indeed.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Good tune, IMO.
Can't stand this guy's voice.
It reminds me of vinegar. (not Balsamic).
I've always loved the energy this song emits !!  Raw, just like Neil

How long did it take you to come up with the genius ebrowning20 user name?
Oh great...I love Neil Young!  Oh wait...this is Neil Young, right?
I hope they come through town again! Already feels too long since I saw them. What a show! THREE SCREAMING LEAD GUITARS, loads of talent, wickedly good lyrics; solid wall of rock-jam sound. Their encore was a ripping cover of The Smiths' "How Soon Is Now"

Very good work...
When I first heard this I new it was Neil's cousin Ed from Hoboken.

BtS has covered Cortez the Killer, and quite well I might add.

Hell Yea!  I love Neil Young!

Wait...what!?  It's not...
Oh okay, never mind...
oh yeah these guys can rock. . {#Bananajam}
Great jam.
Lots of " sounds like" comments which is not a bad thing. This one deserves a John Lennon mention too.
"...they call them markets, instead of towns, like how it sounds..."

This song is a mind blow live. Outstanding production in the studio on this one too. Bow down.
cool
I hear Jethro Tull in into.

If you like this, Built To Spill Live is a must have. "Cortez the Killer" runs over 20 minutes and is still too short.

They we´re certainly inspired by NY & CH. And that´s a good thing. Looking forward to see Neil and the Horse on their foggy trip in Holland in June.

Way better for my ears than "Paps Bossman Skax"...

WAY BETTER!!!

..this tune was designed to make me slosh my coffee (or other beverage) jumping up to crank it up every time i hear it..it was Built To Spill that way, i suppose..

Hot DAMN this song is good!
Have loved this band for a long time.  First time I saw them live back in '99 or so, their encore was a 20 minute jam of Cortez the Killer that was absolutely awesome (there is also a 20 minute version of Cortez the Killer on their 2000 Live album that is definitely worth checking out).  Have seen them 3 more times since then, and they were great every time.  They always throw in a cover or two live... last time it was Third Uncle by Brian Eno.  Awesome!
i like these guys

Ditto ick.  Though the Crazy Horse sound initially hooked me, and prompted my to buy this album, the guitar work and range of styles on the other albums made me a fan.

What's really good is discovering bands I've never heard of before and enjoying them.

So thanks and keep up the good work and in future I'll be purchasing in a way that you get commission for because let's face it you deserve it if we are buying tracks or albums thanks to hearing it on here!
  I agree!  Same for me.

I saw a triple bill of Built to Spill, Sleater-Kinney, and Sonic Youth at an afternoon outdoor show (Seattle, 1997)—definitely not the best venue for the latter.  Anyway, Built to Spill was the best of the three at that show.  Luckily, I managed to see Sonic Youth/Two Dollar Guitar later at CBGBs—MUCH better setting for them.  I've seen Sleater-Kinney three times live and each time I'm kinda like "eh {#Yawn} ."  They're better in a mix of other artists.
Nice tune!

Hell no. that's a cultivated indie style your lookin' at there!

Now, this is one of the good BTS tunes, was beginning to wonder whether they had any of their good songs on here, cause they are a perfect example of a hit and miss band.{#Yes}

Excellent Built to Spill song on a perfect album!  >^_^<

Oh, and I've seen them live several times, mostly in the W.O.W. Hall in Eugene, Oregon. They've always pleased a *full house* of music fans, as they are fantastic live! BTW, the WOW is always all-ages, and many of the younger fans don't even notice a similarity to Neil Young. Doug is not necessarily trying to imitate Neil, his voice just happens to be of that quality, and his singing style fits the melodies.
If Built to Spill seems to be emulating the style of Neil and/or Crazy Horse, one could say that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Nothin' wrong with that!

I'll spot ya' the whiny voice and the quasi Neil Young/Crazy Horse guitar allusion but I really like these guys.  They have a unique style and sound that makes them stand out.  Yup, the vocals can cause problems.  I think they're in the same league vocally as The Shins - who also are pretty talented.
A lot like Niel, from the cars and the whiny twang to his voice, pretty cool

Sounds like a really, really bad Neil Young impersonation.

Annoying music
