Summer kisses, Winter tears
That was what he gave to me
Never thought that I'd travel all alone
The trail of memories

Happy hours, lonely years
But I guess I can't complain
For I still recall the Summer sun
Through all the Winter rain

[chorus:]
The fire of love, the fire of love
Can burn from afar
And nothing can light the dark of the night
Like a falling star
Summer kisses, Winter tears
Like the stars they fade away
Leaving me to spend my lonely nights
With dreams of yesterday

[chorus]

Leaving me to spend my lonely nights
With dreams of yesterday
Summer kisses, Winter tears

My great uncle Angelo Badalamenti has crossed the barrier onto another plane of existence. Between his work on Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Cabin Fever, Nightmare On Elm Street 3 and a plethora of others, plus his relationships & collaborations with David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Nina Simone, Julee Cruise, Isabella Rosselini, Dolores O'Riordan, Anthrax, Dokken, Eli Roth and especially David Lynch...
Brought in as Isabella Rossellini’s singing coach for “Blue Velvet,” Badalamenti collaborated with Lynch to write “Mysteries of Love” when they couldn’t secure the rights to the song “Blue Velvet.” The vocals for “Mysteries of Love” were provided by Julee Cruise, who went on to work with them on projects such as “Twin Peaks.” Badalamenti also appeared in “Blue Velvet” as the piano player. Lynch and Badalamenti co-wrote the songs for Julee Cruise’s album “Floating Into the Night,” which included songs from “Blue Velvet” and “Twin Peaks.” Cruise died earlier this year.

Cool story. Thank You for sharing it.

I've never even heard of it, much less own it.
Can't explain it but maybe the twang guitar or something in her voice immediately brought Ricky Nelson to mind.  Haven't thought of him for some time.

at the end of Until the End of the World, after the development of a device that allows people to record their dreams, humans are becoming catatonically narcissistic, spending their days watching their dreams from the night before. It doesn't look terribly different than what's happened with phone addiction. Riding my bike through city streets, I feel like I'm in a sea of zombies.

This is a cover of song first recorded by Elvis Presley in 1960 - about 11 years before "Ain't No Sunshine".  Anyhow, it's pretty standard diatonic chord progression and is not the same progression as Bill Withers' song.

This may be hard to believe, but when I lived in Moscow, most Russians I met really did like the winter.  It was not unusual for me, however, when speaking with a Russian, to all of the sudden see them burst into tears about life and existence.  They call this "crying one's shirt".  I'm talking about grown men here.   We even had a professor give us a lecture on this one day.  I am re-reading War and Peace now.  I first read it when I was 21, right before I went to my semester in Moscow.  Now, exactly 21 years later, it is just as moving and wonderful as before.  This book wrote me.

Thanks for the insight, a fresh perspective.

In our continent, it is not unusual to find people who glory in the stinging wind of winter, the thigh-high snow drifts and the ethos of cold.
love hearing a different version of what I know as an Elvis song :)

Ack. We are all entitled to our own opinions of course. I was thinking that this was indeed a big contrast, but would rephrase "such a large and lame contrast from the energy and catchiness of Turin Brakes who sing without sounding like a little girl with her teddy bear."
This is such an elegant contrast from those crude Turin Brakes wankers.
Julee Cruise, yeah, such a long time.
Lots of fine memories from the time you could hear her on some radio stations and wonder: what's special with that voice?
Still can't answer the question, but I like it.

A great turn of phrase to honor a great book.
Wow - not heard that in a looong time!  Wonderful soundtrack - a must own IMHO - this is probably one of the weakest on it, and I really like this track...
So emotive. Me thinks it's rated too low.

I was thinking of "(The time has come for us to) Say Sayonara" myself. I first heard that one while watching the movie version of M*A*S*H; as Frank Burns is hauled out of camp in a straitjacket, the song is playing over the loudspeaker. Hilarious.

Funny that it's from a soundtrack by Wenders; I was just thinking it sounds like it should be on a soundtrack for a movie by David Lynch.

I worked at a video rental store in the early 90's when this movie came out.  I bought the VHS copy (and still have it!) but it has not been released on DVD — at least not for US release.  I like this movie, that actress Solveig Dommartin was cool (she passed away in 2007) and the soundtrack is one of the best ever!  Every time I hear this song on here I keep expecting to hear Neneh Cherry's song next...

Is this Ginger from Gilligan's Island?
Reminds me of Jessica Fichot a little, in a good way (c.f. "I Will Wait For You" from her album "Le Chemin").
Great movie, but I then like any film Wim Wenders directs.

Very cool, sort of retro-western-noir...captures a very interesting vibe.
I first heard the cheap and cheeezeee background, then I was ASTONISHED to hear singing in English, not horrible pop squeeling in Thai or Vietnamese.

Truly Vile.
I think this may be the only song I've given a "1"
This dirge has certainly dampened out "the fire of love". A nailed-on Ho-Hum from the Nottingham jury {#Sleep}

I had forgotten all about this soundtrack, which one of my housemates had back in college.  Good stuff for the most part.  Has anyone actually seen the movie? Trivia from IMDB:  Wim Wender''s original rough cut for this film was twenty hours long ("It will never be seen!").

The movie was frighteningly disjointed despite the fine music. Perhaps because he was forced from 20 hours to 2 and a half. Who knows?

worst thing ever.
die summer die!
please don't play this anymore
All of these summer songs on the first full day of Autumn... makes me miss summer already

Ah, reminds of good ole Twin Peak's days.
...sounds like The Bells ("Stay Awhile") or The Poppy Family ("Which Way You Going, Billy?). Both of which were awful in the '70s and no better with age. David Lynch cache or not, this is wretchedly twee.
Sounds like it belongs on the Kill Bill soundtrack.
That sounds real girl-groupy. Very nice!

Quite unaware of what this relates to, it still takes me back to the 50s - the greatest decade of all (born well after that...). However, that's all it takes to get an 8. Cool.
7!
What a wonderful version....touches me...
One of the best songs on this soundtrack!
so unique, hard to imagine another like her . . . .

I love Julee's voice an' the atmosphere she creates Thanx Bill for the song! Julee goes around on the LRC from time to time, worth poppin' in from time to time or set your Real Player to 'record' for up to 6 hours while you sleep or are at work or are HERE readin' this an' listenin' to Julee Cruise

I wore out the cassette (one of the last I ever bought, IIRC) of this back in the early 90s. A truly eclectic soundtrack. The movie is quite underrated, imo. If nothing else, Wim had his heart in the right place. The End of Violence was another mismash, btw, and less successful.
