Driving out through the windmills
And some of them were still
Sometimes it's hard to catch the wind
And bend it to your will
Even though it's hard to know
Just how the story ends
The road is long and it takes its time
On that you can depend
Lay me down in the river
And wash this place away
Break me down like sand from a stone
Maybe I'll be whole again one day
Lay me down, lay me down
Maybe I'll be whole again
Lay me down, lay me down
Maybe I'll be whole again
Somewhere between heaven and hell
A soul knows where it's been
I want to feel my spirit lifted up
And catch my breath again
Lay me down in the river
And wash this place away
Break me down like sand from a stone
Maybe I'll be whole again one day
Lay me down, lay me down
Maybe I'll be whole again
Lay me down, lay me down
Maybe I'll be whole again
Lay me down, lay me down
Maybe I'll be whole again one day

Those harmonies are unparalleled
I never tire of their music
This is delightful
I think this was one of the songs that made me discover Radio Paradise back in 2004... In this time I changed my life and I think RP played a role in this whole thing. I stopped excessive drinking, learned a lot and made it to my favorite school. I learned how to programm, record music, draw,... make art. Now - wow... 17 years later I am still making art and live from it. Thank you to this song, thank you to Radio Paradise. Godlike or more...
Perhaps not their best, but those harmonies, as always, heavenly!

I live in DC and you would be amazed at the number of people who don't have any grasp of a topic and are shocked that people don't want to listen to them.  Many of these problems are far more complex than they can fathom.
It's beautiful but sorry, isn't this about the time they decided they couldn't stand eachother.

I wonder how many people get this.
You could be arguing in your spare time.

Hopefully indefinitely, because they do it, and have done it so well for so long..

love the music they have given us over the years, a thing of beauty...
Saw them at Ravinia 3 years ago and they sang this song.  Absolutely chillingly beautiful.

Yep, that's what I was thinking.
Crosby especially is lucky just to be alive, much less singing like a bird.
Beautiful.
a pleasure to hear these voices without being drowned out by Steven Stills
Love those harmonies, so smooth.
Recently viewed Jacob Dylan's documentary "Echo In The Canyon" about the Laurel Canyon music scene in the late 60's. Crosby, Nash and the usual suspects are in it. Highly recommended.
Ay-up they don't make them like this anymore!  {#Daisy}  {#Hearteyes}

Who NEEDS Neil Young here?   This is Crosby and Nash's own space.  And it's one of their best.   (Yours, a top NY fan)
Totally surprised to see the artists' names here. Pleasantly surprised!
So good, thx for the spin RP...

Another one of those songs that begs, screams, and shouts for an uncompressed file and a bona fide hi-fi rig. The depth of space is amazing. I'll disagree re the rest of the album—IMHO they are not up to the standard set by this track.

Missing Neil Young and it shows.
Absolutely beautiful.

If you want to hear David at his absolute best, get If I Could Only Remember My Name, his amazing solo album from about 1970, featruing Triad and other great tunes.  It's in heavy rotation on my iPod.

I agree IICORMN is simply amazing; "Laughing" is Crosbys' single best composition; Lesh's bass growls like a bear and Garcia's pedal steel solo (a first take, I've read) sends chills down my spine every time. The list of supporting artists (sometimes reffed to as PERRO) is stellar.

Having seen Crosby and Nash earlier in 2011 (front row seats in a smallish community venue!) I'd like to say Crosbys' animation, stage presence, but most particularly the strength of his vocals, is the best I've experienced in years (throughout this century anyway, first time in was in  oh '75 I think)

IMHO :)

Listen to Randy Newman's "Political Science" ten times and say five Hail Marys. As seductive as isolationism can be, the world is far too connected and dependent on economic, security and ecological planes to every contemplate this move. Sure could stand some help, though.

On another comments for a CSNY song someone said they thought these two guys were riding on the coat tails of the other two. and suggested Crosby couldn't sing. This is evidence of the talent these two have. I love listening to them sing together.

As narrow a viewpoint as that might seem to some, I agree.  Sort of like, "Clean the poop out of your own nest before you try to show someone else how to build one."  Humans are a short-memoried species. We forget from day to day, and never mind year to year or decade to decade. We need constant reminders of past atrocities, for our own good - otherwise, we'd let propaganda, half-truths, and an overly-controlling higher power convince us that Vietnam never happened. The Holocaust never happened.  Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima never happened.  Mark Twain never used the word "nigger" in his writing.

Oh, geez - I just went all political, when what I really wanted to do was comment about the beauty of this song, this album, and those soaring vocals. I love Nasby and Crosh. {#Mrgreen}
Several really nice albums with just those two.

Best album to come from these guys in a long time. If you haven't heard it, also listen to their awesome version of that old patrotic song, My Country Tis of Thee, it's to die for. Bummer, our soldiers shouldn't have to die for stupid causes, wasted lives, wasted for what? Afghanistan? IRAQ? Viet Nam? Give me a break. The peoples of Afghanistan and Iraq don't even appreciate our imposition of allowing our soldiers to sacrifice their lives in there country. They bad mouth us. May that we become more Chinese like and close our country up like the old Ming dynasties of old did. To hell with all of them, I say. Peace brother.

I like this more every time I hear it...
Cant hear this on german radio stations! Thanks RP1
Absolutely beautiful vocals!
It's got a Seals and Croft vibe going.

No. 100 again?
Yes, Baby!

Very nice song, maybe I should check out those classics ...
Kind of proves why washed-up drunken idiots should deserve a new liver—Crosby has done so much given an extra 20 years of life.
Their voices are really amazing together, love to hear more stuff with them together, lol maybe Graham can keep David out of trouble
omg.

Chills head to toe.

First time.

Some good things never change.
their voices are simply amazing together - they blend beautifully. lovely song
Such sweet harmonies. Beautiful song.
Wow, makes Grishman/Garcia sound like Penn and Teller
great piece...maybe i too will be whole again one day
Seems like two people who understood each others pain were collaborative brothers.
An expression of twin genius combined..............
Back when Crosby was circling the drain, only to be revived with a liver transplant, many said that he was not worth it, and had wasted his life. Now look at what that liver has given us in the past 15 years...
transcendent
now THIS is music!

Absolutely chilling. I hadn't heard from either of these guys in decades. Then this comes on and I say, "hey, a new band that has figured out how to do what CSN did." They clearly still have the knack.

This is just perfect... Brings a smile to my face each time I hear it.
Like Simon and Garfunkel...perfect harmonies.
Ah, such harmony.
My God, after all these years, they are still such an incredible sound together.
Nice song!
I bought the cd (a double cd!) on Amazon a couple months ago, and it is ok over all, though I have gotten to where I can't take a whole cd of the same sound anymore. I think I listened to it once because I was once a huge fan of CSNY and this is them dead on. Thing is, toward the end i was hurrying up the songs so I could get back to RP. I would upload some of the cuts, but I rip at way too low bitrate for the upload standards. The last cut "My Country Tis of Thee" is very nice.
There is always a place in my heart for this kind of sound.
Well, I really like it.

CSN are missing Stills, even when he's there. And so often when live they lead you to believe that one or more are tone deaf.......

The local FM station has been extending them the curtessi of playing this as Crosby lives a few miles away in the Santa Ynez valley. Crosby and Nash have a lot of better stuff......

Weird... Something about this tune makes me incredibly aware of how often Bill plays it... But then I realized it must have been at least a day or so... I opted for the 1

Could you stop playing this. They have done a lot of stuff that isn't as trite and repetitive as this. Any of it would be good. This is like to much sacharine.

Yep, I'm moving this up to a 7, and that is huge praise for a bunch of guys usually reserved for my extremely limited 3-and-under category.

First time I've heard this: What a gorgeous intro. My ears pricked up immediately.
Hauntingly beautiful. Sounds like they're singing about their own impending deaths
Though these two guys got less recognition, I think they were the backbone of the band CSN. Note I'm leaving Young out of the comment.
I also agree. Something very easy about their voices.. meaning its effortlessly beautiful...
beatyful

Well said. I'm a big fan of Y too, but the blending of C&N's voices hits such a smooth spot.
the melody is so pretty, and it's reminding me of another song, but I can't put my finger on it -- anyone else hearing it?

I,ll be seeing CSNY in Ottawa, capital of Canada, on July 8. Let's ROCK--and folk, of course.
Quality just rings out. I was listening and coding right along oblivious to the music for a while. Suddenly, a sub-process woke me up and said "hey, this is worth listening to..." Excellent.
For those that like CSNY, buy The Thorns cd.
