Are you alone now
Did you lose the monkey
He gave you backaches
And now you slouch

He didn't mean it
He's just a dumb ape
Reading Playboy
On your couch

And now it's time to say
What I forgot to say
Baby baby
Come on, what's wrong
It's a radiation vibe I'm groovin on
Don't it make you want to get some sun
Shine on, shine on, shine

I went to Pittsburgh
And joined a pro team
Talk about a bad dream
Broke my knee

But I can still croon
Make all the girls swoon
Isn't that the way life's
Meant to be

And now it's time to say
What I forgot to say
Baby baby
Come on, what's wrong
It's a radiation vibe I'm groovin on
Don't it make you want to get some sun
Shine on, shine on, shine

And now it's time to say
What I forgot to say
Baby baby
Come on, what's wrong
It's a radiation vibe I'm groovin on
Don't it make you want to get some sun
Shine on, shine on, shine
Shine on, shine on, shine

This particular song doesn't do Hem justice...check out their 2002 release "Rabbit Songs"...cross reference with Over the Rhine "Good Dog, Bad Dog".
Nice change from FoW. Still all things considered, I’d rather hear from Adam and the gang.
Wow, that sounds a lot like Hem, I thought. Then looked up from the workbench. Nice!
I gasped a little and ran to see if the great Fountains of Wayne song is a cover. *whew* No, this is the cover. 6

Not a bad song but not Hem's best either. Check them out more, I bet you'll like.

This song kicks ass!

This version takes all the fun and energy out of the original Fountains of Wayne version; however, it doesn't make my ears bleed. Bland.

can we get some music with BALLS today? thanks.

"I moved back to Pittsburgh and joined a protein"? Maybe I've been around biochemistry too long... Not a bad remake, but they sound a little out of their element. Decent, anyway.

Thank you! The original is awesome, yet barely outranks this "pretty good" version.

It would be interesting to hear the reaction of someone who's never heard the Fountains of Wayne version. If you're already familiar with it, I just don't think you can form an unbiased opinion. I can't.
I don't know the FoW version, but it sounds kind of OK. (I keep getting this group confused with JEM, but never REM). This is the "Half-Acre" group right? Got kind of an alt-country feel to it, though I prefer the Tanyas or the Waifs for that.
I don't really like the "Shine on, shine on, shine..." part. It reminds me of "Come on, come on, bla bla bla bla" in that AC/DC song. But, I haven't heard the original version of this. So I'll just hush up now.

Never heard any version until this one just now. I liked it.

AUGUUGUGUGUGUGUGUGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO Where is the original Fountains of Wayne version?? I still remember tentatively putting that first FoW disc in the car on a friend's recommendation. This song - Radiation Vibe - came on, and I was in such a bliss that I hadn't felt in years... This version lacks the abrasive exuberance. And that's a bad thing.

The Raconteurs release, Steady as she goes, really should be given some air time.... Please ! Jack White and brendan Benson are great song crafters.
Um, do you have any idea what thread you're posting in?

I haven't heard the original... I liked this quite a bit, but it's probably because I have a consistent record of liking Hem a lot. IMHO this song is only average in comparison to such jewels as Half Acre and Leave Me Here. Maybe this is because it's a cover that just doesn't quite get it, as some have suggested, or maybe it's just my random opinion.
I would go along with that.
I think this is a good interpretation of the song - it makes you look at it a different way. I get a kind of Sam Beam-y vibe from her. Also, I would love to hear Sink to the Bottom - and I think Hey Julie could easily fit into RP's setlist.
I dunno the original but this does seem a bit...thin...vapid...or something less than strong Nice enough tho, especially if it was your neighbor's sister playing at the BBQ
While this is REALLY different than the original, I gotta say that this cover really grows on you over time. I actually think it's brilliant - and they perform it beautifully live.
Play the FoW version instead of this one... all this cover does it make me wish to hear the real version. OMG now your playing FoW - Supercollider right after Bill your just EVIL :)

I've never heard the original and did not care for this at all. Something about the woman's lack of vocal depth and the plodding nature of the tune..I blocked it out and then tuned back in, disappointed to find it still playing. Kind of like at the dentist's office when you tune out the drill for a while.

Took a fun-sounding Fountains of Wayne song & made it boring
Omigod! I knew I recognized the opening lyrics, but I just couldn't place the song until I looked at the playlist. Still forming my opinion on this cover... I adore the Fountains of Wayne original, and I've loved all the Hem songs I've heard to date. Not sure if they mix well here, though... Right on Dmax - Fountains of Wayne did this right the first time - no need to redo.
Wow! I loved this song back in the Fountains of Wayne day (before that crud they make now). Nice take on it, great song.
Nice lyric. Excellent vocals, and a relaxed but active songbed. This could be a pop tune with the right producer.
Nice production. Maybe a bit too nicely produced. It's been massaged a little to much into a "product." But it's catchy and inoffensive.
