Tuck me in
I need to sleep now
I need dream how
I used to dream

Look me in
Look me in the face now
Help me believe how
I used to believe

Now do you see how
They're in the margins
Below and up above
I'll see now
How life wins
When all that's left is love

Rope me in
Lasso my heart, love
Loosen my soul, love
Spirits and dreams

Hope begins
Right at the start of
The search for the gold, love
In the driving rain

Now do you see how
We're in the margins
We're below and up above
I see now
How life wins
When we're all that's left is love

We're all that's left
Of love
We're all that's left
Of love

Tuck me in
I need to sleep now
I need dream how
I used to dream

Look me in
Look me in the face now
Help me believe how
I used to believe

Now do you see how
They're in the margins
Below and up above
I see now
How life wins
When all that's left is love

All that's left is love
All that's left of love

Thanks for the tip, folks! I only know Bill Nelson's "October Man"--pretty cool song.
one of my favorite band from that period

Now I know where U2 got their sound from.

A side man with the Wailers.
I love me my Echo. This was recorded 25 years after their debut and it still sounds fresh, yet at the same time Echo-y.
I always enjoyed the 80s iteration of Echo & The Bunnymen, and had no idea how solid their later stuff was 'til I started listening to Radio Paradise.  Not sure how I missed it. So thanks for that!

Bill Nelson's "On A Blue Wing" is a lost gem.
What a beautiful, and beautifully understated, song.
The "underwater" effect and the incredible auras thrown up in the atmosphere of this song never fail to impress me! a nice one by them

Good choice for Easter Sunday 2021
Over the years, Echo has been one of my all time favs. Intelligent lyrics and memorable melody.
such an under -played band. Great tunes.

I doubt it since U-2 was first.

bellissima - entusiasmante -
Bill - How about playing "Broke my neck" by Echo and the Bunnymen. The full 7 minute version will do for starters.

cheers
I think I've noted on this thread before: this fine track seems like it got off the musical trend train in about 1989.  I constantly confuse it with songs from that era.
TIL 'eBow'
Haven't heard this one in 4 years. love it!
New(er) Bunnies, cool
This is quite possibly my favorite E&TB tune. Feels good on a Sunday.

The only Bill Nelson song I know is "The October Man" from "The Love That Whirls"—fantastic track with heavy use of ebow. That track is definitely RP-worthy.

Great band.  Nothing could ever touch Ocean Rain, in my opinion.  Timeless.

sweet Echo  (god thought this was from like early 90's : )

Your link sadly doesn't work for those of us in the US. Maybe this live performance of "The Storm" by Big Country will be as good:

At first I thought it was some obscure U2 song then I thought it sounded a bit like Coldplay. Curiosity aroused I had to walk over to the computer and look at "Who's Playing" - Echo and The Bunnymen!  You live and learn every day!  Well done Bill - you got me there!
When did they start sounding U2?

Just read a recent piece based on an interview with McCullogh.

Thoughts:
1. Can't wait to buy and listen to Ocean Rain
2. Dude didnt want to play the game - and become big in the US - too bad for me as a resident of the US
3. Just because U2 knew how to play the game doesn't mean their music wasn't great.
4. Like everyone else, you make your decisions Ian and you live with them - don't go slogging others that took a different path
5. Comment on their music - their performances - that's always fair game
I love U2 and am ready to love Echo
Saw them last year in Bournemouth. Old band never dies! Another great song.

Interesting segue between U2 and Echo. Thought it was Bono for a moment.
And, following U2's new one, one from their cousins

hey Echo. I don't want to hear this again. no pun intended.
hey Ec...oh....

9 -> 10.

Fantastic song, fantastic band.

It has occurred to me that when Bill plays plenty of great songs in a row, I tend to keep upping my ratings. Until they're all ten. Oh well.

Sometimes they and the music sucked, but really, who prefers '12?

Pretty much every decade has some great music and some lousy music.

Uh, me, for one :-)
all about the experiences...
discovered U2 and Echo around the same time circa 1981/82. Completely changed the way I listened to and thought about music. Crocodiles, Porcupine, Heaven up here and Ocean Rain mark the tempo of my college years. If you have not listened to those four albums give them a try. Anything after Ocean Rain is marginal (pun intended) a few songs like this one, Evergreen and others notwithstanding.

I the spirit of moving this thread forward:

I'm an avid Bunnymen fan, and if you like this I suggest you check out what I think are their two greatest albums:  Heaven Up Here and Porcupine.  I know some fans will shun me for not including their first album "Crocodiles" but it just doesn't hold up overall for me.

There is always the greatest hits album which is very good overall too "Songs to Learn and Sing" and I recently saw a new greatest hits called:  "The Very Best of...." (but I'm not familiar with that one...)  They are a pioneering band from the early 80's and worth digging into if you never have!

I really like this song - however, the production and vocals seem a tad lifeless to me. I once heard a live version on Fabchannel (long gone... sigh) that was quite magical.
From Fleetwood Mac to Echo and the Bunnies...priceless and only on RP.

Bono has admitted he modeled some of his vocal style after Ian's. It's pretty obvious he's a fan.

Got a large load of early 90's alternative yesterday.  My tolerance is waning.
Wow, I like this... and I also notice a similarity to U2.
Great song, great lyrics, really like it. But at times it sounds a bit like Bono on ludes (which may not be a bad thing ! )
Wonderful album, chalk full of solid tunes like this one. {#Music}

Funny how your views of a singer influence your liking, or not, of their work. I used to semi-like this number, maybe a 6, then I saw the Bunnymen at Loopallu 2008 and the lead singer was such a petulant, spoilt, unprofessional wanker that I walked out with many others, and since then I think of him whenever I hear the Bunnymen. Sad, I guess, but he really was an awful tit.

46 myself and i second your comments

from wikipedia -

Siberia is a 2005 studio album by Echo & the Bunnymen. The album garnered generally positive reviews, with some commentators calling it their best work since Ocean Rain, despite it being the first to not reach the UK Top 75.

The track "Of a Life" is noteworthy because the chorus has the line, "I want a song to learn and sing / of a life requited", which name-checks their 1985 compilation album Songs to Learn and Sing.

I think I'm coming close to upping my vote from 9 to 10.

God this song is great.

Sorry, Russ, 20 minutes ago was Coldplay. I think you are getting them mixed up.  But I do like the Coldplay influence in Ian's music.

I really like this song and I can't put my finger on it. I was saw them live a few years back and I've always been impressed with their material. This song just seems to stand apart a bit.

Chronologically, Ian McCulloch predates Chris Martin. They do sound a bit alike. Don't know who either of them thinks they are however.
Is it just me or are the playlists all catawampus?
NEW Echo and the Bunnymen! Excellent. So glad they're back with a new album.

Euro-Ethereal. Just what I need on a waaay too slooo afternoon trying in to wrap it up.
this song is also in the margins, as in MARGINAL.

You just reminded me -- listening to an Oldies station a couple months ago, I heard a song that sounded VERY similar to Creep. Like, there's absolutely no way Radiohead wasn't *strongly* inspired by the song -- same bass line, same chord progression during the verse. Don't get me wrong -- Creep is a much better song. . .but its originality was strongly challenged for me. . .

I disagree with the 1,000-times repeated refrain--All that's left is not love, but disappointment.
Dreary. Not the best tune on this album, in my opinion.
