U2, one of my three favorites bands.  But I ALWAYS skip this song when I listen to this CD.

This rocks. . .

I think I like the IDEA of Bono, but not so much in action... it's not so much the music (I think I have Joshua Tree somewhere), it's just everything else. Did anyone see that South Park? {#Roflol}  Also, I couldn't help looking for Physicsgenius's comment on this U2 song, they make my day.

I agree about Yahweh. I always skip this track.
I think I better get this album. Nice.

When was there ever much right with U2? talk about over rated hype, cliche and obscure self-important references.

On mute now, first time ever on RP for me. This song is a minus 1.
This song live was levels above the studio version. jmsmy wrote:

Bill should play Mercy, which has sat on the play list, unplayed, for years. And that's easily the best track they've done in years. It's 6 or 7 minutes of bliss.
I generally love this band's stuff and this song is great. (Even better is Yahweh, the final song from the same album. Bill should add it to the playlist!)
I enjoy and respect U2, but this song is so grating.
I generally love this band's stuff but this song sucks.

Hmmm...where in my comment did I say I was rating the band? I happen to like U2 quite a bit. Well, I like good U2, anyway. I WAS rating the song, numbnuts, and I'm standing by my comment. In the name of good taste, I don't think this should be played anymore when there's much better U2 available, so I'm dragging the overall rating down as far as I can. I hate to burst your bubble, but this happens all the time.
I got as far as the first two words, then mute! Do without.

Pretentious crapola. Spare us.
U2 would be a more attractive band without all the grandiosity.
one of the best songs of U's latest album, some seems very week and full of deja-vu's but this one show the strenght that made U2 what they are today

Sorry to those who like this song. I just had to hit "mute" again. One of U2's worst, IMHO.

I think Bono forgot some grouping. Which is it? (Love and Peace) or Else or: Love and (Peace or Else) I like the 2nd because then you could end up with "Love and Else".
I'm a huge U2 fan but this is one U2's weakest efforts. Of all the great tracks they have... how did this one sneak into the library?

Uhhhhh, my statement was sarcasm on how blatantly obvious, and uncreative, this title is. Honestly, this is something a 6 year-old would scribble in pink crayon on her coloring book. But of course, this meets my standards for Bono, who has a history of ludicrous song lyrics/titles. "And it comes, like a hunted child" "You left my heart, as empty as a vacant lot" - a couple of winners there. Perhaps I shall now refer you to here: (click here)
The lyrics are great. But the song is about love while the music sounds like war. It hurts my ears.

This is one of the few songs that I like from the album. Actually, after hearing the entire album, I scanned the liner notes and it turns out that the ones I liked had some tinkering done by Daniel Lanois. Quite sad really, when you consider that the hype surrounding this album was all based on the fact that Steve Lillywhite was returning to produce, and his work has turned out to be rather underwhelming, in my opinion (except for Vertigo, that one rocked).
as i've written before, Lanois is a genius and anything he touches 'shines'......the man is a gem, glad you picked that up here....

this song is amazing. it's been described as "Led Zeppelin playing rockabilly in a dumpster" ... how badass is that? and i also like that, whether it's positive or negative, U2 never ceases to inspire passionate responses. rock on, rock on - and comment away!

You can get it on iTunes as well. And I heard that they are starting to play in at their shows.
I haven't really listened to U2 since I was a teen in the 80's and I just picked up this album and I really like it. maybe I'm all old now, but I have to say I had a good time with this album.
In what world would Edge & Bono flat out lie to their fans (The Strokes? The Vines? Rocks Hard?) In what world would they decide that what the mix needs is a tad more schlocky production? In what possible world would Bono (of all people!) write lyrics about his Father's death that would read like an entry from a pre-teen girl's diary? BIZZARO- World, that's where! Clearly, our beloved U2 has been replaced by their mirror-Bizzaro world selves! Or, maybe I'm the one who has switched places-- And U2 ALWAYS sucked in this world.

Yes, but IMO the song's narrator isn't anyone in U2
Reminds me a lot of "Spirit in the Sky." Gospel-rock with a driving fuzzed-up low-octave guitar riff.
"The only thing worse than U2 is a snobby U2 fan" Thanks for the link Paikea!
Not a fan. =;
I kinda think that this would have been better with the Edge singing, perhaps (although my exposure to his singing is somewhat limited). It seems to need a more monotone deeper vocal to showcase the grungy guitar.

Don't really like U2 much, but I always wonder what all the fuss is over the rating of a song and its amalgamated effect on a numerical display on some website. This has some bearing on something? Or is this type of feedback merely to impart the feel of making a difference?

The problem is that the last 2 albums haven't been terribly forward looking. They both feel like they're mostly looking to the past (though the latest album is much better than the last one). But worse than that is the feeling that decisions are not based on whether a song is good, but on whether it will sell.

Had to reply and say WELL SAID! What is it with poeple wanting to stay stuck in the same "sound" or "timezone of music"....you put it so well and I wholeheartedly agree. This particular song I just love, but not every later U2 song jazzes me but all music fans need to remember that everyone is fresh, strong and driven when you are 20 years old (site-Zepplin, Alanis, Billy Idol)and you change when you get older (hopefully you would) and become more discerning and refined. Your no longer in the same mindset as you were back then, ask any "aging" rocker. Three Cheers to U2 for evolving and lasting this long as a band who continually puts out new stuff!
