He had the hands of a missionary
She had the body of a nun
And in the fumblings of their union
They found the key to kingdom come
He bought her a bird in a silver cage
For blessed company
'Cause he knew one day they're gonna lock the door
And throw away the key

So blow out the candles
Mornings moving in
Flowers bloom on alcatraz now
Let the caged bird sing yeh
Let the caged bird sing
Let the caged bird sing yeh
Let the caged bird sing

The church they call 'em anarchists
Class war they call 'em saints
When they lost the plot they kept moving
Lookin for heavens gates
They stole a car and got as far
As the motel on Damascus road
When the TV screen blew back their dreams
When the cathode ray exploded

So blow out the candles
Mornings moving in
Flowers bloom on alcatraz now
Let the caged bird sing yeh
Let the caged bird sing
Let the caged bird sing yeh
Let the caged bird sing

Rimbaud left his soul behind
Leavin ghosts surveyin the scene
Movin from light to the dead of night
Just to keep his cold heart clean
And the prisonaires from the sprawling slums
Saw a new day movin in
Not baton charge from the ruling guards
Could stop the caged bird singin

So blow out the candles
Mornings moving in
Flowers bloom on alcatraz now
Let the caged bird sing yeh
Let the caged bird sing
Let the caged bird sing yeh
Let the caged bird sing

Finally I'm hearing some A3 that isn't Woke Up This Morning. I love these guys. My all time favourite band in the past 10 years. I don't think this is their best song by a long shot but it has brought some joy to an otherwise ordinary morning.

Hi! Alabama 3 is my favorite band too and I'm sooo sad cause they never play here (south european country's).One of my biggest wishes is to go to their jam, with whiskey bottle and cigar in my hands. :) I will try to submit "Peace In The Valley" and some other more quality stuff from A3...

Not anymore,,today she's walking and has lost her singing voice !  {#Sad}
No offense, but based on this song, I'm trusting BillG's judgement over yours.

Wow, of all the songs Alabama 3 has, this is probably most mediocre.  This particular album is their weakest album, and even it has a lot a good songs.  I'm both happy that RP is playing A3, but sad because of the selection.

Nuns are traditionally built "sturdy". (Just a thought from an ex-catholic.)
Woot the beat is picking up a bit. Thanks Bill!

Alabama IS like a different Country ... I've been there LOL. dalireza wrote:
If memory serves, "A3" began as "Alabama 3" but had to change their name when coming to the states because of the country group Alabama. "If I need consciousness expansion, I go to my local tabernacle and I PRAY!"
What a brilliant idea! Name your band after a sheet of paper!
One of my favorite bands - unfortunately, this CD (in my opinion) was their weakest offering. Some cuts from "LePeste" would be awesome... Long Live Larry Love!
Hmmm, too bad this is the only A3 song on RP. This is the worst song by them I've heard. Pretty much anything off of "Exile on Coldharbour Lane" is excellent.
Wow...when I first heard this I thought it was Dylan. Sounded like his voice.

"Ain't going to Goa" is a cracker. Can we hear that, please?

And what does it mean to have hands like a missionary? (This song is pretty awesome.)

Uh, my guess is they are just like your average non-nun.
I don't know why that's funny. It just is.

Sorry. British accented singers trying to sound Southern doesn't quite work.
Yea. It's a bit like, let me think....like say Kevin Costner playing Robin Hood. Just imagine it. What a laugh that would be!!

Well, I'm from 'the south', and I love this group.
Excellent song!

They do the Sopranos theme song too.
Worthy of another listen.

Only the nun knows for sure.
What exactly is the 'body of a nun' like?
Right outa Brixton UK, this band is correctly pronunced 'Abamma free' in a Coldharbour Lane, South London accent. They have done loads better than this to delect your ears.
boring.. so boring. pathetic lyrics as well.
Got interesting once the drums stepped up a gear.

Southern? What do you mean? Southern France? Southern England? Southern Afghanistan? Southern Cuba? Southern the Netherlands? Southern Candada? Southern New Zealand? Southern China? Southern Thailand? Southern Wherethehell? Great song and performance regardless of where you think they're from or sound like they're from!
Sorry. British accented singers trying to sound Southern doesn't quite work.
Slightly weak at first pass.

Is it just me or does this melody remind you of the theme to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?

A3's first album is in steady rotation at Casa Mairy. Would love to hear more from this album on RP.
Yes! A3 at last (and something besides the Soprano's theme song). I hope we'll be hearing more of their material!
