You do something to me
Something deep inside
I'm hanging on the wire
For love I'll never find
You do something wonderful
Chase it all away
Mixing my emotions
Throws me back again

Hanging on the wire, yeah
I'm waiting for my change
I'm dancing through the fire
Just to catch a flame
Feel real again

Hanging on the wire, yeah
Said I'm waiting for the change
Oh I'm dancing through the fire
Just to catch a flame
Feel real again

You do something to me
Somewhere deep inside
Hoping to get close to you
A peace I cannot find

Dancing through the fire, yeah
Just to catch a flame
Just to get close to
Just close enough
To tell you that...

You do something to me
Something deep inside

From Paul Weller, or just in general? Asking because Mr. Weller is one prolific muso!

Upping my rating to an 8 from 7.
more weller please!
As ever, when this comes on I try to rate it on  RO for an 11, I get filled up with love for my loved ones and I destroy my eardrums by turning up the sound a bit too high. It's a wonderful song, love it!
Saw him live in Detroit a few years back for my birthday, fantastic show.
Perfect 10.

He got a big ol' shoutout from Tears for Fears in 1989's "Sowing the Seeds of Love"--

"Kick out the Style bring back the Jam"

All good but…. There seems to be a drought for new music……. Thoughts?
Seeing a 7.6 rating on this gives me hope. I'll leave it at that.
Wish I had his look on the cover!
Gonna grow my hair a little bit I guess but that jacket I don't think I'd be able to find anywhere but in theater dressers
Gary Puckett meets Eric Clapton meets Joe Cocker voice.
Meh on the musical style, though it's better than the vast majority of stuff that's out and about today. But if I had to give it a 10 (I never give a 10) in order to never have to hear another song on popular radio, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

And then Style Council. He's just brilliant!
She indeed does.
Freaking awesome song Mr Weller!

This was used really well in the Punisher series on Netflix.

I think so too. Very much

Sounds more like Joe Cocker (if he'd chilled the fark out for five minutes) to me.

It does by ME!  He's great, and this album is excellent.

Strange so few listeners know Mr Weller and his huge body of work.  He has true godlike status over here.
Jam on!

Couldn't agree any more if I tried. It has elements you don't hear much today. Emotion, melody, instrumental solos...the works!

what's a Paul Weller and how can he have a "greatest hits" when I've never heard of him?

Another possible question is: how could you never have heard of him?  He's been making music for close to forty years.  However, he's never been as popular in the U.S. as he has been in the U.K., so it's not entirely surprising.
The Modfather nails this one out of the park!
This is a wonderful full bodied tune! Love it

probably the best love song - to me {#Yes}

Style Council was the other, IIRC.

Snappy dresser, too.
been listening to weller since i was old enough to put a stylus on vinyl . can't say there's anything i don't like. some very very cool music comes out of that mind
His style is too British to ever get much attention anywhere else really.. Another Punk/Mod-turned-mainstream yawn in my very humble opinion.

Hmm this came on today and I was actually kind of happy to hear it. Not quite as ponderous as those others. I still haven't rated it because the range is too wide. Today a 6, most days a Joe Cocker-esque 3.

Oh this is nice.
Beautiful transition from Wilco - Red-Eyed and Blue.

Very nice!

uarggghhhh
gorgeous ...{#Heartkiss}

Goddamnit I sure do love this song. I have a hard time attaching this Paul Weller to the Jam. This reminds me more of Dave Mason's stuff. Soo soulful and good!
Beck, The Cure, Armatrading to Paul Weller!!!
Whoa! What a set for a Friday night!!
Unfortunately, I'm here at work, but not working...I'm thinking about the lyrics of these songs.
And now Noir Desir! NO work from me dear manager.

Interesting sound - reminds me of John Legend. Very good!

I love this track and most Paul Weller music in general.  Quite why he is called Modfather I don't know - must have been his PRs - since not very much of his music pertains to or relates to the mods n rockers thing of the 60s in any way shape or form.   He's not that old.  Just the need of the press to give labels I guess.   A fine elder statesman of English music anyway....just more hippy than mod in the Wild Wood/Stanley Road era.

Not complaining though.  8/10

Paul Weller was the theme of a book, The Modfather, in which David Lines documented his life growing up in Leeds, and his adolescent obsession with Paul Weller. Paul was certainly influenced by 'Mod' style throughout his career and does come from the era of Mods & Rockers where sharp suits, pills and scooters were the thing. There is no one else that 'fits' the title Modfather better than Paul IMHO.

Just ordered this CD. Thanks!
Gotta love "The Modfather". Paul Weller comes back to Perth for 2 concerts next month. Can't wait.
I'm seeing a lot of new names here lately - WELCOME to all who've just joined, or have finally gotten the nerve to post comments.  Good to have you here! {#Hug}

I love this song, and of course, I don't know why. I guess I must be one of those "earthy" souls that loves what it loves, and too much analysis is useless. Silly me. {#Sunny}

WOW! a great rock n' roll voice...I'm unfamiliar..thanks Bill! solid 8

Paul Weller - Godlike Genius. .... Absolutely. His work with the Jam inspired this RP'er to get into a band. I give him a pass in Style Council, but his solo stuff is deserving of the highest honour. RP needs to play more Paul Weller

News for the World:
It's been a long time coming but Paul Weller - former leader of the Jam, lynchpin of the Style Council and all-round Modfather - is to be honoured by weekly music magazine NME when they crown him Godlike Genius at this year's Shockwaves NME Awards on Feb. 24.

'Hanging On A Wire!'
bird on wire

Love this guy, especially when he was with the Style Council.
Changing man, The Weaver, Broken Stones....

So many tunes to play of Weller's!
Great tune from a great album - though i must say i like the acoustic version from "Days of Speed" even better ... {#Notworthy}
Did he meet up with Angelina Jolie at some point?

Come on RP - More Weller! Anything from his vast catalog - but maybe not this song, which I find overly plodding.

Saw him two days ago at MINI United. Not bad, not bad at all...
I love this, I'd like to hear wild wood, or even better his cover of Tim Hardin's "Red Balloon"
Love just about everything this guy has ever recorded. Would love to see more
from his vast catalog played here.
This voice could sing to me ALL night! {#Hearteyes}

That's some tasty guitar on this track as well.
 My father told my about Paul Weller and then i saw him in concert at V fest in Toronto this summer and he was awesome. If like one of his songs you should enjoy most if not all of his other ones? I do.
Lots of fun, great musicianship and down home style. Gregg Almannish, almost.
more paul weller please!

I hate to say it, but now that you mention it, Paul does sound a bit like Kenny back in the 60's before he started with the adult country thing.

Saw The Modfather last night and there were no covers of Kenny Rogers. Of course it is possible that his Modness may sound like Kenny Rogers when he does his ballads, but I regret to say that I am not familiar with Kenny's work apart from a couple of 'hits' played on mainstream FM radio

Interestingly, Weller did do a cover of Pretty Flamingo and also a cover of a track called Magic Bus by some "where-are-they-now" 60's beat combo.

I think the fire in Weller's belly is still burning, based upon the venom he saved for That's Entertainment and Eton Rifles. So even if Weller and Rogers have a similar sound, to see the veins bulging in Weller's neck as he rasped out the lyrics suggests that the passion manifests itself in very different ways...

I am seeing The Modfather in August and I can report back if he covers "Coward of the County" or "Lucille" My prediction is that he probably will not. The Modfather
The Jam's DTNB is one of my most played LP's. Great collection of live performances from one of the 70/80's best British groups.
Same here. Tried to get a couple songs from Dig the New Breed through LRC but all were shot down with out review.

Also wonderful is "Dig The New Breed" as a live show. Intensity, creativity. Although the Jam have many brilliant tunes, my favorite is easily the despondent "Down In The Tube Station At Midnight" about a man being mugged to death. Genius.

Amazon.de doesn't have anything from Paul Weller at all!!? Strange...
One of the sexiest songs ever written, up there with "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers and "These Arms of Mine" by Otis Redding. A definite TEN!
God - what a voice - it just oozes desire - it's Friday and I'm goin' home
Bill, what are you trying to do to me - I need to go to bed, and the brews and your chunes are doing a wonderful job of keeping me up.

SA-WEET!
I've always had a strange relationship with Paul Weller. I think it's partly his vanity. I really like Wild Wood, but the albums after that I found lazy and dull - real dad-rock.
