Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she's always gone too long
Anytime she goes away

Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away

And I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know
Hey, I oughtta leave young thing alone
But ain't no sunshine when she's gone

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Only darkness every day
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away

She is in the organic foods isle!  Go get her!! ...she forgot to put kale & quunoa on her list!   ...hurry, go find her!
Perfect segue from Sinead O.

So ,  I am only rating this an 8.
Stone cold classic! My go to song to belt out when no one's watching.
This was actually released in 1971.
Humble and genuine.

The documentary Still Bill is worth a watch.
Bumping from 9 to 10 just because I walked out of the office to find my wife off somewhere, probably at the grocery store, and....  ain't no sunshine when she's gone...
Simple sentiment but the gospel truth.

So strange that this song is closer in time to 1924 than it is to nowadays.

I hope that this doesn't mean like we're old people in the 1970s listening to old Scott Joplin gramophone discs and not understanding the awful taste of all the kids who listen to Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

I hope you are being sarcastic when you say "awful"!  I f that is the case, I agree with you, strongly!

I love Bill Withers music, greatly underrated.
GREAT!!! ICONIC!!!
So good, but this isn't even his best song! (JMO)

Ugh, then we'd get people complaining about "HOW IS THIS SONG ONLY A 15" and such.

It's already at 8.5. Quite a bit above the average.

I agree!
This is just quality. End of.
Bill and Rebecca - Can you introduce a 20 rating for songs like this?
There are a few touchpoints that act as an anchor in my musical world: Penny Lane, Space Oddity, etc. This is absolutely one of them.
The song is quite overplayed and I'm a little tired of it - but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a "10".
He may be gone but he's "Still Bill" and his music lives on ...
That arrangement slays!  Breathtaking...

I'll bet you didn't know this track has a killer drum solo!
For me this can be nothing but a 10.  What an amazing song!

Rest in peace, Bill. RP listeners will miss you.
This is one of my all time favourite songs.  : (

Yes.  I pulled up the comments because, as the song played, I was struck by how beautifully executed it was, and how contemporary it sounded.
Bill withers... and dies, every time she goes away.
I have so much respect for Bill Withers as an artist and a man. He followed his own path.

Thumbs up, not because I agree, but this is totally legit and I never thought of this song that way before. I've just mostly grooved to it.
Sad and lonely.
Not my stuff.
Yeah.
if there was a vote higher than 10, I would click it!
I love music as a direct way to listen to the wisdom of dead songwriters. RIP Bill.
RIP Bill Withers. Ain't No Sunshine...

Outstanding "9"!
Proof that length doesn't make a song great.
Wonderful...

For Brits and conaisseurs of british comedy:
A good song by Bill from Bill
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know . . .

The repetition is beyond annoying.

I like the song except for that bit.
LOVE this song, please play it more!!!
I know , I know , I know  that I like Bill Withers.

But this ain't  one of his best tunes.
I find it *so* impressive how he's not displaying *any* attitude, any *trick*. He's almost neutral. Microscopic inflexions, the very timbre of his voice that doesn't change throughout the whole song. No fireworks. And it's overwhelming. Such class. Add others stated, everything around him is so top notch, that can't hurt making this extraordinary.
Easy 10.

I could listen to Bill Withers sing a phone book...
c.
Still my favorite version...
PERFECT

And he's an inspiration to anyone with a speech impediment.  Really an amazing story, I think it was a PBS special on him and I highly recommend it to anyone who even casually likes his music.

And his drummer was WAY cool.
so cool...groovy with strings.

Would love to hear other tracks like "Grandma's Hands"...
PERFECT
Not as cool as the original but I have to give it to Ed Sheeran and the backing band for the unique arrangement

Logically speaking, I should be tired of this song from overplay etc. but, holy jeeze, it's just so perfect.
