Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a wind swept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky
Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone

A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I

''Friction lock - set.
Mixtures - rich
Propellers - fully forward
Flaps - set - 10 degrees
Engine gauges and suction - check
Mixture set to maximum percent - recheck
Flight instruments...
Altimeters - check both
Lights - on
Pilot Heater - on
Strobes - on
Confirm 3-8-Echo ready for departure.
Hello again, this is now 129.4.
129.4. It's a go.
3-8-Echo cleared takeoff, the wind's normal at 10 knots.
3-8-Echo.
Easy on the brakes. Take it easy. It's gonna roll this time.
Just handle the power gradually, and it...''

Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapor trail in the empty air,
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night

There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, a state of bliss
Can't keep my mind from the circling sky
Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I

Album version of this song is a 9, this performance is a 3 at best
Too tired performance. {#Confused}

Live version doesn't cut it.  That, and I don't think this holds up after almost 30 years (yikes).  IMO, Gilmore's stuff does not have the longevity of Water's PF.

Water's PF included Gilmore greatly.
But yeah, Gilmore is an other flavor. I like that too

if anyone bought this album after the seeing the cover than it's their fault

plastic rubbish. i thought it had been discarded only to find it's still around.
I dunno.  Its still a great song.  Saw the tour as it passed through Ohio down at the 'shoe' at OSU in Columbus.  Nice reminder of an awesome concert.

Live Floyd is different from studio Floyd.  Both are great.
...sent up to mir on TM-7, the delicate sound of thunder was the first rock album to be released in space!..
This lifeless recording shows us how not to perform this song.

The version on 1993's "Pulse" is a better example of how this song can be done to better effect.

THIS WAS THE FIRST PF ALBUM I BOUGHT, OTHERS FOLLOWED NATURALLY. I HAD A CHOICE AT THE RECORD STORE AND THIS WAS AN EASY DECISSION-NOT SAYING IT'S THEIR BEST, BUT I LIKE IT A WHOLE LOT.
  Shhhhh!  Not so loud, some of us just woke up. {#Shhh}

also is has been how long since this was played?  12 years........
Not  a great version, very muddled.

I would have to agree, studio is nicer
Have I metioned in the last couple of day how much I love PF? Live, new, old, whatever...it is ALL incredible.
I like this music but I am reallyin the mood for rock that really rocks, like fleetwood mac, AC-DC, Led, ect. Perhaps some screaming guitar stuff.
By the time this \'band\' released this song, there should have been a class-action lawsuit against Gilmore and company just for continuing to call themselves Pink Floyd. Frauds.
I have to agree-not as good as the studio version at all. It lacks the vocal "edge" of the studio version.

Goes to show people say what they think and not what they know.
Basically all Pink Floyd is the Heart and Mind of God.
Probably the only Floyd song that I prefer the studio version to the live version...

DITTO
This is definately my favorite PF song :notworthy:
Sadly, Pink floyd is played at least every 2 hours on here, you havent noticed?

Waters had left the band by this time
Most Excellent - BEST live show though :-)
Have to say I love this song, maybe not the live version as much. Gilmour\'s voice and guitar playing flies out of a dull day at work anytime...... :)

The epitome of marginal: a weak live version of an ok post-Waters song. The \"Zabriskie Point\" Floyd suggested earlier is a good idea. Good, underexposed Floyd on that soundtrack. Some nice Garcia/Dead too.

I would have to disagree strongly. I think some of the most powerful meaning and concepts were in The Wall and The Final Cut. Wish You Were Here was at one time my favorite album as a whole by Floyd, but I think I have begun to lean more towards The Final Cut. Musically I don't think The Final Cut is as captivating as Shine on You Crazy Diamond or Wish You Were Here, but the whole message and theme cuts into me more deeply. Maybe it is because I have become more politically minded in the past decades?

Ooouch! The Wall not of interest? :??: I can't name another work of expression that has ever touched me more.
Though I totally want to be a pro-Waters groupie.. I do have to admit that this is the song that got me interested in Floyd in the frist place. And then I started buying and listening to their other stuff. With little effort I saw how much of a sell out Gilmour was... Even though I really liked his song Fat Ol\' Sun. Found myself signing it the other day in fact. But anyways, I really think that Pink Floyd\'s sound was defined by Waters lyrics and Gilmours gituar playing. With Waters and Gilmour trading off on vocals. So yes this verison is lifeless, yes it isn\'t the best song ever by Floyd, but I have to give it credit for opening up a whole new world for me. Where Pink Floyd became by favorite band. btw.... I have never once listened to Division Bell... Maybe I should give it a try. Or perhaps I have other things better to do. :D
Sadly this band has not produced anything interesting since *before* The Wall.
yikes - the vocals on this are criminal - surely there is better stuff in their catalog ?
This is lifeless...even less so than the studio version.
Hey Bill, do you have any Floyd rareties? Like anything of of Zabriskie Point?

I agree. Sounds like David had a cold or something.
I like the song, but not this live version.
One of my least favorite songs, off of my least Favorite Floyd album. Actually, it\'s a Gilmore solo album, he just put the other members names on the album for marketing reasons. Pink Floyd redeemed itself with Division Bell.
