Walking down the street
Kicking cans
Looking at the billboards
Oh so rad

Summing up the people
Checking out the race
Doing what I'm doing
Feeling out of place

Walking, walking
In the rain

Feeling like a woman
Looking like a man
Sounding like a no-no
Mating when I can
Whistling in the darkness
Shining in the night
Coming to conclusions
Right is night is tight

Walking, walking
In the rain

Come in all you jesters
Enter all you fools
Sit down no-no's
Vulgar fools
Trip the light fantastic
Dance the swivel hips
Coming to conclusions
Button up your lips

Walking, walking
In the rain

Channeling Marianne Faithfull.

Grace has always done her own thing.
Marianne's also great  - but Grace.. love her or hate her, she stands alone.

Gotta say tho - in 2023, she looks so much like an AI generated being! <g>

...hell, no - she channeled no living thing. "Sounding like a no-no" - what fun

Haven't heard this in a LONG time.
Helped get me through nursing school back in 1981
wondering what she's up to these days...won't Wiki as i would rather imagine all the amazing things she might be doing
Channeling Marianne Faithfull.
I can't not hear a Talking Heads song (can't remember which) with that synth bit. Where is that bit from?
Didn't like everything she did but when she was good, she was fantastic.

Nimoy is jealous AF.

Hey William: how 'bout a little Spock time? Nimoy does a fine cover of "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town"...
I can't believe this was released in 1981.

I agree it is so nice when bill does a deep dive on someone like grace jones
What a cool cover.  Never heard this before - that said, RP introduced me to Flash and the Pan too!  Thanks RP!

I don't get it. If Grace Jones had talent, she'd be Joan Armatrading.

And then what would Joan do?
80s shoulder pads.

Love this album.
feel like this was written for her
She's steamin' hot!  (Pray Tell from POSE)
Fantastic album. Fantastic songs. Fantastic stereo imaging and all that hi-fi stuff. Fantastic cover. And brilliant on vinyl too.

She'd pull it off well

Right you are. 1981. Thanks for pointing that out.

Great Album cover from my vinyl collection and a very cool song.
She is very underrated, and very COOL. Very very cool.
8->9, have a good day and LLRP
As a 20 something year old member of Uncle Sam’s military stationed In Europe in the early 80’s... she scared me. 😳 Now? Not so much.
The best... imo. And all who say, “back in the day...”, her album... from, say, in the last ten years, is pretty fierce. And seeing her live is so much more than “funny”. HOW DARE YOU!! One of the most impressive and powerful shows I’ve been to. But that’s just me. Opinions.
Easily confused with Asaf Avidan
Considering her skin color on the cover i guess that walk was in purple rain?
Greetings from Flash & The Pan
Verrrrry interesting! And miles ahead of the the Flash and the Pan (original?) version.
You haven't lived until you've heard GJ sing "Chan Hitchhikes to Shanghai." Not on this album, but one of my all-time favorite "should never have been recorded but I can't stop humming it" tunes.

Sometimes you just can't look away at a train wreck.
Great deep cut from the 80s, had to comment b/c the last one was 7 years ago!  I'm at a 7 and thinking of an 8....Long Live RP!!
EDIT - went to 8 almost right away...love the sound of this tune...FLAC rules w/ Bose cans!
Chris Frantz of the Talking Heads tells me that Grace was looking for material for her new album, and he suggested this song. /trivia

Grace Jones was a true trendsetter. She was so out there and radical when she came on the scene, but if you saw her walking down the street in New York today, you probably wouldn't even give her a second glance, because everybody followed her leads. This one caught me by surprise on RP though.
How true mj. Just fabulous! Still as great an album as it was in the day, IMO. Have to love that bass line!

Whatever BHD. This blows and you know it. I keed! Miss you.
Oh, it does indeed! And yet, there's some amount of pleasure there.
My favorite Grace Jones story involves my high school coach giving the team a pep talk. Coach: Madra, who's your hero? Me: Grace Jones, in "Conan the Destroyer", because she kicked Wilt Chamberlain's ass, barefoot, using nothing but a stick! Coach: Uh... Brian, who's your hero? Brian: You are! Coach: That's better.

I can see Stewie Griffin doing an imitation of this, a la his spoken word rendition of "Rocketman". Hehe. Unique, if nothing else... 5.
gross jones
I had no idea May Day made music!!
...a seven just because GJ is so wacked...

so cool it's red hot
Always loved this (mostly covers) album... Nightclubbing & Libertango are cool too Funny how the latter part of the song now resembles Air :)
"Feeling like a woman, looking like a man..." Seeing Grace Jones "perform" is even funnier than hearing her. Good music for watching people in trendy places. I wonder if Sly Dunbar and/or Robbie Shakespeare are embarassed to hear this today. Well, a gig's a gig. Makes me wish there was a rating for "quirky novelty worth hearing once a year and when I least expect it."
One response to this --- William Shatner sings \"Tamborine Man\".
nevermind. feel free to erase this comment if it pleases you...
Like the \"Flash in the Pan\" version better. This is pretty good.
great to hear this again! always a favorite.
