Shades of gray coldness from inside
Snowed in without a shovel or plow
Rhetoric on the radio ?Don?t you go outsideā€°

I shiver in the dark coldness all around
Hide behind my jacket Listen to the cold facts of lies
Because we will we will burn
We will we will burn for the winter

A man pulls off his glove
to take a look at the time
From beneath the watch
sweat starts to flow

A father cries out into the night
as his child slips away
A door shuts as the boy reaches that forbidden room

And the shades of gray
getting lighter and lighter
and the shades of gray getting lighter and lighter

Because we will we will burn oh
We will we will burn for the winter

I shiver in the dark coldness all around
Hide behind my jacket Listen to the cold facts of lies
Because we will we will burn
We will we will burn for the winter

Muy originales & creativos, hoy dia tanta creatividad y buen gusto como que se perdio.
First time hearing this and as one who has some experience with Pittsburgh, it rings true. Shitty weather is a given and this seems to be the gist of the wintery essence. The other piece by this band that gets repetitive play here annoys me to no end, but at least this is something different.

Guess you weren't in college in the 90s.

Wow. I don't know quite what to make of it — but I like it. The chorus and rhythm tracks are happening.
I really kind of like this, and I like the album cover too. It has a slight Robbie Robertsonish sound to it, to.
Having always had a secret liking for "send me on my way" I was surprised to hear another track from this group. Faint echoes plus imagination, but enough to make me go looking to see what else they have out there.

They're a jam band- so maybe they don't deliver tight little tunes;  it's SUPPOSED to be ramshackle, see... I guess you'd have had to have seen their stage show (with recommended medication prior) to really "get" RR.

ouch... don't do this to us, Bill!
Boob-lee-ah-hey?

One catchy song not a band makes.{#No}
Uggh... never have liked these guys. Sorry.
Sounds like the singer is channeling Dave Matthews
Too much 80ties in it, right? ;-
Chit yeah Bra!!! Bill be jammin today... {#Bananajam}
Is that a bongo? I love the bongo.
One of the first things I heard when I started listening to RP.  It was like, whoa, this is really cool.  Got any more stuff like this?  Been with RP ever since.
Not their best - and when are we going to see a new album?
I really like Rusted Root, but I am not sure if I would like to hear them straight for an hour or so.  They are a bit of an acquired taste, somewhat like the Talking Heads.  David Byrne has a rather unusual voice too, and it takes some folks some time to get used to his voice as well.
I know some folks on RP loves em some Rusted Root, but when I listen to the singer's voice, I can only hear Goat Boy, Goat Boy, Goat Boy.
I really like Rusted Root... and this not in any way diminishing their work, but I hear a lot of Dave Matthews in this piece.
Not my favorite track on the album (I like "Weave" and "Too Much" better), but pretty good.
...this girl sounds like lisa gerrard...
She was better when she was still with Sonny.
mubbeddeeyahey.
i love 'em now! 8. 375. i'll follow the link to learn & hear more after this one song!
I love Cher.
Man, I used to love this band. This is so sad to hear. I expected greater things. It's almost like they got stuck in one of their own grooves and can't see beyond it.
Member of the band, either Jenn Wertz or Liz Berlin. She often harmonizes/counterpoints, etc with Michael. A great song that she really busts out on is "Sister Contine" from their "Remember" album. maxmox wrote:
Wait, who is that female vocalist coming thru over it all? Any help out there?

Well, it could be one of the female vocalists in the band.
Love that great snare sound. 8 for the drummer & his rig. Wait, who is that female vocalist coming thru over it all? Any help out there?
Sure does not feel like an artificial winter outside.....Brrr...
hehehe Happily out of sync. This is the first Rusted Root song I've heard that didn't cause me to turn off the speakers. In fact, I actually liked it. Thanks Bill!
I can hear why people wouldn't like this. Too much going on in this mess of a song, and I like the gypsy howl (usually)
This band was so good in the beginning, but they went downhill with this album

Yep, my thoughts, too. Strange song.

Wow, this is Rusted Root? Love the female gypsy Dead Can Dance style background singing...
for a second i thought this was they might be giants...
a mix of emotions..pretty
wow rusted root gets cosmic...
This band has kinda grown on me. Kinda like The Talking Heads did... Quite Likable at the moment. Solid 7.

The female vocals on this tune is what really makes the song for me. The only bummer is that Jenn or Liz (I'm not sure who's doing the wailing in the bridge, and at the very end) only get a few bars to do their thing. That bit sends shivers up my spine every time.
That was my favorite part, also. Sounded a little middle Eastern...

Actually, the original version of this song is AWESOME (it's on Cruel Sun). This remix, however, doesn't do it justice... chucc wrote:

I\'m sooo tired of hearing this song on RP....uncle...
Went to see Santana last night, and the best thing of all was that Rusted Root was opening the show. They are definitely a live act to catch. It would have been better if they were a headliner, as their set was much too short! They wound up their set with \"Drum Trip\" leading into \"Ecstasy\" which really got the crowd warmed up for Santana

nope...you'd be just as annoyed. originally a pittsburgh band, i've heard quite enough of them for the past 15 yrs or so (not that i'm counting, or sure of that number even) to last me a lifetime.

I saw One World Tribe play Milestone's in Rochester! Great band.

The lyrics i found at https://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Studio/7341/rusted_root.html suggest it's "Coldness all around". Regardless, though i can't seem to get a single coherent interpretation out of the lyrics, it's not much of a stretch to suggest this song is about nuclear winter and the Cold War (which you may have subconsciously noticed to come up with "Commies all around"). I have no idea about "moobidiya-HEY!" either, but i like it anyway.

Don't worry. I hear it too all over this song. Perhaps he says "over our heads" ? What I want know is whats up the line "Shiver in the dark, Commies all around"
how about ANOTHER R.R. song?! why always this one?

"Ecstasy" comes to mind... but I'd rather not hear them on RP ever. Thank God for Emmylou Harris.
Hmm. I think you missed my point. I LIKE 20 minute improvisational drum jams, although they never get adequately captured on CDs. On more than one occaision, I have been with Jim Donovan (the RR drummer) and 20 other guys, all flailing away at our djembes for a couple hours -- Ecstasy is not just the name of the song. It it the state you reach when you get your overactive mind out of the way and connect with the rythym in a primal way. All I can say is that if you find excessive drumming annoying, you seriously need to connect with your root chakra. Drumming: good! Root chakra: good! Life: GOOD! BTW: I like Emmy Lou, too.
Is that Lisa Gerard on the female vocals?
These guys used to play the local bar in my college town in Fredonia, NY. It' s good to see them gaining popularity. They are definitely better live. Still, I like their studio stuff a lot.

i dont hear it in this song. where is it? are you mis-hearing lyrics perhaps?
i diggit. I like most of Rusted Root\'s stuff, but I still cant figure out what he means by \"moobiddya-hey\". seems to say it in just about every song.
Not much of a song, but they are great players and mix all kinds of \"non anglo-american music\", in a way that it sounds exciting just the same.
What a great tune. I\'ve been sampling the new songs from their website and they sound MUCH better than their last dismal CD
RR is a group whose awesome talent can only be truly appreciated live. 20 minute improvisational drum jams don\'t translate well to CD and are frowned upon by most radio station program directors (present company excluded :D ) They are touring this summer. See them!
