Darkness falls and she will take me by the hand
Take me to some twilight land
Where all but love is grey
Where I can't find my way
Without her as my guide

Night falls I'm cast beneath her spell
Daylight comes our heaven turns to hell
Am I left to burn
And burn eternally

She's a mystery to me
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl

In the night of love words tangled in her hair
Words soon to disappear
A love so sharp it cut like a switchblade to my heart
Words tearing me apart
She tears again my bleeding heart
I want to run she's pulling me apart
Fallen angel cries
And I just melt away
She's a mystery to me
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl

Haunted by her side it's the darkness in her eyes
That so enslaves me
But if my love is blind then I don't want to see
She's a mystery to me

Night falls I'm cast beneath her spell
Daylight comes our heaven turns to hell
Am I left to burn
And burn eternally

She's a mystery to me
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl
She's a Mystery Girl

Roy had an incredible 5 octave vocal range.  He could genuinely hit high notes unlike a lot of male singers today who fake singing high (technically called counter tenor singing).

It's not "fake" - the vocal range is what it is.  There is also a difference between a falsetto voice and a trained countertenor.  I would say that Orbison had a phenomenal falsetto, in that it never sounds false.
A vocal range I think only approached or matched by Freddie Mercury.
This is really excellent.  Tip o cap to everyone involved.  Roy, Bono, Edge.   Who would have guessed!?
The more I hear this, the better it gets!!  Thanx RP!
GREAT!!!!!  I never heard this tune before.  Thanx RP!
I endlessly dig how Roy and Bono made such fruitful use of Man's Main Muse -- the Mystery of Women -- to showcase their enviable gifts to full potential!  BRAVO!
Goosebumps...!!
Doesn't get much better! What A voice.  The greatest, masterful

I couldn't agree less. Orbison was a great artist, and this was perhaps his greatest song. As for female mystery, all I can say is that after 20 years of marriage to a wonderful and accomplished woman I still love that mystery.

Wish I could rate it again and again!
That voice.
- So you got a band?
- Yeah
- I don't know why you bother. Everything's
shite since Roy Orbison died.
(The Commitments)
I think it's safe to say that Roy influenced every rocker that came after.

If the influence wasn't direct, there's no more than one degree of separation.
Bumps! but misses the point ...
Love it so much. His voice!
Stops me in my tracks every single time.   A voice above and beyond.

Them Wilbury boys was all pretty dang good, huh?

It's weird, I discovered Roy Orbinson during his revival in the late eighties. I was 12 or 13, that age where music impacts you like nothing else. It was right then when he passed away.

Love this song and will always do.
The Big O!

Bach would have loved Roy!
As KD Lang said he has a voice like a tree !!!
Transcendent.

I will never forget the concert I attended in Oakland, CA. in the 1970's. Roy Orbison opened for the Eagles. The crowd booed Roy off the stage. It was terrible...Every time I hear his songs I am reminded of this night. What causes people to be so intolerant and harsh?

"i hate the f*&^ing Eagles, man"

This song is like a beautiful gift he gave to the world at the end of his life.
One of a kind. An easy 10
Never knew Bono & The Edge wrote this.
I was looking up the other day. . . .  can't believe he's been gone so long!  This was actually released after his passing.
Gave it a 9 because it is roy

Checks out. Sounds like a U2 song, but in WAY better hands with Roy.

52. Tragic.
Roy was on such a resurgence with The Wilburys. His early albums on Monument were the soundtrack of my adolescent life. Fortunate to have seen him live twice.

Bono?!
Can someone explain this comment?

I think the commenter is a disciple of the Church of U2. It's safer to say Roy had more influence on Bono than Bono had on him.

I'm on the other end of that, with a STRONG 8 (or a weak 9?)  Such a great voice, hits the high notes well.  Long Live RP!!

12 songs of his are in the library. And I can't agree with your thoughts on this performance, sounds like classic Orbison to me.

I just can't listen to this. It's a pop song sung by a dying man. It makes me sad.

TY Roy Orbison  and RP  for
She's A Mystery To Me

To me  7 - Quite Likeable

It's not just he or she.  It's a spectrum and it only took most people  a few thousand years to figure it out.   Then there is the religious right who are still on the struggle bus.{#Think}
Beautiful song for this beautiful singer  : )

There are only a few songs that give me goosebumps when I hear the first few notes.

Dead at 52. Roy Orbison died younger than George Michael and Prince.
request for "California Blue" !!

God the lyrics! That voice! Otherworldlines.....
What a sad life that was so full of life.
Can just never get past his voice....just does not resonate for me at all.
Near tears, so good.
Shivers
"I Drove All Night"  is a terrific song.  It is available on The Very Best of Roy Orbison CD.

"I Drove All Night"  would be a terrific song for RP.   Anybody want to upload for consideration?

EDIT:  Never mind.   "I Drove All Night"  has already been rejected.  :-(
He was belting them out until the very end.
What A Feelings !!!
what a track and what a voice.  Beautiful.

Maybe it's a good pairing, and definitely some of Billy's best, but nowhere near the godlike sublime voice of Roy Orbison IMO.
Doesn't get much better than Roy!
What a soulful sound...makes me sad listening to his voice. We were lucky to have him while we did.
I miss him.  He brought beauty to rock and roll.
The Orb was just awesome!  At least an 8.
Orbison always sang about women with such respect.

Yeah, apparently Bono and The Edge wrote it for Roy. Did not know that before I came here...Roy was a singular talent. One of those people who fills a niche that has no room for anyone else...
I can feel his pain. And I wish I couldn't.
God bless Bono for making it possible for RO to go out in a worthy blaze of glory.
Dump her Roy! You don't need that!

Superb song cuts to the bone! Still trying to deal with aftermath of a gal with inescapable darkness who blew up our Heaven at its peak

I know Paul Hewson and David Evans wrote this, but did U2 ever record a version of it?  As far as I know, this is the first released version of this song, so it's technically not a "cover" version.
Now this is a cover.  I don't know who else has done this U2 composition.

At first I thought this was our former troll-in-residence-extraordinaire, physicsgenius, out of retirement after 7.25 years of relative bliss on our part, but the ratings profiles are different enough that I'm sure this is just a wannabe.

Orbison sang with this genuine respect for women.

This is the best of the period.   Thanks to a former good friend from Arizona for highlighting Roy Orbison.

great love song
when this song came out i hated it, only just heard it after 25 years and after alk it's not too bad - i still don't like his voice but now i appreciate the guitar picking {#Angel}
One of the few songs that makes me get goose pimples...

Been digging The Very Best of Roy Orbison in this household over the past couple of weeks.

The wife likes it much better than Steven Wilson's The Raven that refused to sing and other songs, or King Crimson.   I wonder why?

P.S.  I drove all night deserves to be part of RP's regular stable of songs.

Nice :)
{#Heartkiss}
It's a mystery to mewhy anyone likes this song
Sing it, Roy, like only you could! Elvis once said that without Roy, there would have been a lot less for him to aspire to. He was the Master!

How about some other Roy Orbison cuts? In Dreams. Pretty Woman. He has quite a few that are not sappy, demonstrate that fine voice, and are great examples merging rock, blues, rockabilly, and that Grand Ole Opry operatic voice.
i love it. solid 9 fr me. thanks for playing it, rp. i think he's underappreciated
So beautiful and timeless. A 9 from me.
From a 7 to a 9 .
And if I was`nt a bit grumpy this morning , it would be an 11 .
