Now coming down out of this swan dive to your arms
I make no sounds when I move through your reservoirs
I wake up quick and I wake up sick
As you abandon me into these fields of rank and file

Through this cloud I hear you breathing
Through these bars I watch them bring more in

Now I send back letters from the wasteland home
Last slow dance to this romance on my own
May take two to tango but boy it's one to let go
Well it's just one to let go

Now boy keep still, no don't spread yourself around
Now get back in line, eat your bread and just work the ground
'Cause you're not through, they're not done with with you
Did you think you were the only one that's been let down

So sleep tight little boys of the new dam
Let the drop in the time with the quicksand

Now I send back letters from the wasteland home
Last slow dance to this romance on my own
May take two to tango but boy it's one to let go

Now another bad idea gets through, down they send me well unto you
Every bridge I should have burned, every lesson I've unlearned
When the smoke give way to ruins incarcerated lovesick fools
I wait for you to cut me loose but until then

I send back letters from the wasteland home
Last slow dance to this romance on my own
Now I send back letters from the wasteland home
From where I slow dance to this romance on my own

Man, this song doesn't ever get better, does it?

I disagree and like it.

Yeah, not much here. Pretty thin.

I don't know about the rest of the album, but this song is just weak. Dreary and plodding arrangement, no strong melody, tedious vocals, no hook - what's it got going for it? Workmanlike at best.

I don't especially think this is some "great" song, but there's a pretty strong melody and an obvious, repeated hook in the chorus.  I guess the verses can seem kind of "dreary", but that is often the case with a lot of popular music: the verses build up to the chorus.
{#Bananajam}Nice groove
A real fine song. Love the Wallflowers!
Cool tune. A great first track on this album. Heard the new Jakob Dylan solo album the other day. Sounds pretty good, but a lot like everything else the Wallflowers have done.
Pretty Petty.
Total "meh." Instantly forgettable.

Well, I don't dislike the song... and the rest of the album is just great, I think it's their best (not too crazy about their other stuff).

Will anybody be mad at me if I say that I like Bob Dylan's son better than him? :?:
Bob Dylan is furious. I agree, I also enjoy Wallflowers more. From a historical-significance-point-of-view however his son has a long way to go to fill his dad's shoes.
nope...I don't really 'get' the Bob Dylan thing...although if he sounded anything like his son back in the sixties...THEN I get it...different era. Although Tim Buckley...now that's a set o'pipes!! and HIS son...oh, yes...it's in the blood. mafe wrote:

I heard a bit of this and thought it was one of the songs from their first album. They don't really do 'variety' do they?!
The band the remind me of the most, at least in this song, is Del Amitri. In more than one respect it sounds rather flat, I think. As if they\'re afraid to sound truly inspired (not that hip?).
I don\'t know what it is about Wallflowers. I just am so sick of their sound.
Matthew Sweet? Yeah, the voice kind of resembles his...I think. And the guitar. A little. I like this song. Don\'t overplay it, but it will be nice to hear every now and then.
Nice to hear some other Wallflowers, all they ever play around here anymore is \"One Headlight\".

Too true about KFOG - but, like the others, they play what the Record company gives them so whatcanyado (besides run to RP!) I agree with the first posters that the album is very uneven, though.
