Virginia was a lot lizard from FLA
She had a compound fracture in the trunk
It started when she ran away, thumbs out on the interstate
She hitched a ride to misery

Mr. Whirly had a catastrophic incident
He fell into the city by the bay
He liquidated his estate, now he sleeps upon the Haight
Panhandling misery

And he's gonna get high when he's low, low, low
The fire burns from better days
And she screams "why, oh why," I said "I don't know"
The catastrophic hymns from yesterday of misery

Well, Vinnie was a hustler out of Amsterdam
He ran the drug cartel in Tinseltown
They found him in a Cadillac, bludgeoned with a baseball bat
In the name of misery

Then Gina hit the road to New York City
Mysteriously, the night Vinnie croaked
She stopped in Vegas to elope with Virginia and the dope
And kissed the bride eternally

And they're gonna get high when they're low, low, low
The fire burns from better days
And she screamed "why, oh why," I said "I don't know"
The catastrophic hymns from yesterday of misery

Well, hellhound's on your trail now once again, boy
It's groping on your leg until it sleeps
The emptiness will fill your soul with sorrow
'Cause it's not what you make, it's what you leave

And we're gonna get high when we're low, low, low
The fire burns from better days
And she screams "why, oh why," I said "I don't know"
The catastrophic hymns from yesterday of misery

"Warning" is, in my opinion, a very different GREEN DAY album.
And I really love it (unlike many others here obviously :)).
Gogol Bordello? :)
I just can't get over the fact that nothing about Green Day strikes me as authentic.  It's like Billie Joe et al are suburban kids playing at being angry punks or whatever.  All I ever hear when they start to play is Pulp's Common People playing in my head.  Not because of the tune, but because of the meaning...
misery =  crap

Pretty cool song. It reminds me of a tune by Jellyfish on Spilt Milk called Bye Bye Bye.  Spilt Milk is a great album by the way!

Oh, I don't know . . . I think he'd be smiling.

And probably thinking, "Not bad, but I did it better."
Always like sharing the Buzzcocks and the Undertones when youngsters state that Green Day is a unique rock band.  I like them.
And Kurt Weill rolls over in his grave . . .

Yes, a musical 'medley' if we were being kind but to be fair some interesting and maybe autobiographical lyrics from Billie Joe Armstrong.

Ump-pappa, Ump-pappa.
Next is chicken dance?
At least the title fits.
awesome song.
Never thought I'd put the words nice tune and greenday in one sentence, but hey... this one's pretty cool!

I can't frikken believe it is Green Day

Well done, I concur, scarletdancer

Very different for Green Day.  I like it!
Apparently unplayed for 12+ years—and for good reason.

Yes...and no.

{#Think} {#Yes}

Something makes me think Lotte Lenya and Kurt Weill might have liked this. They were not exactly conventional.

And there's Bill, catching your wave: no, not the Door's version of "Alabama Song" but their "Moonlight Drive." Cool segue.
Funny playlist moment from the 4 last songs: "Evolution Revolution Love, Run Thick Misery". Bill, you writing poetry with song titles? ;) Not a bad tune from Green Day. Not great, either. Just there.

Great album!! Great track! I don't hear enough of these guys on RP... uploaded the title track from this album and I think it was declined.
The new album is an album of the year contender.

First Green Day, then Labor Day. All is good.. :)
I just got in from the midwest.....and I'm glad you have a song about Missouri....and you got a real nice airport, too......
you mean to tell me these guys can actually play something with clothes on?
Reminds me of Whisky Bar by the Doors. That Berliner cabaret feel.
My daughter has this GD CD and I like this song..i like the Umpha Lumpa sound, and the accordion.....and the old style feeling.
ouch misery
i'm the opposite...i normally like green day but this song blows chunks.
normally I hate anything Green Day but this is actually pretty good.

I just bought Kerplunk a couple of months ago (Vinyl on sale :) ) - great album. As is a lot of their other stuff...
hmmm... pop-"punk" band tries its hand at polka. :|
simple music, great lyrics, and eclectic mix. stress free pure enjoy.

Failing to make any effort to spell or punctuate REALLY does a lot for your credibility. Way to go. Good song though.
I don't care, i like it. "She screams "why oh, why?!" I said Ayyee don't know!"
the first greenday song i actually like... :)
ENGLISH MOTHER F----- DO YOU SPEAK IT?!!!!! greenday_rocks wrote:

boring instrumentals and lyrics. I enjoy some of Green Day's music but I never thought they were more than average (IMHO) This is not one of their stand-outs.
Homage to Kurt Weil and Bertolt Brecht or a rip-off of the "Alabama Song"? Lotta Lenne is rolling over in her grave.
Aptly named crap.
The first tape I ever bought was kerplunk!. I will never stop liking Green Day because of it. :D
I never thought I would hear Green Day on RP. You guys never cease to amaze me. Thanks for the stimulation. (pimp)
Green Day does no wrong by me. Great song! Anton
This one reminded my wife and me of Tom Waits. In a fun, light way. I guess I\'ll have to check out Jellyfish now.
\"Tastes\" like Hava Nagilah.

Wow, that's kind of interesting. I bought Warning a very long time ago (I know, it came out only recently..."long" means long for me...I'm little...) and Spilt Milk only recently. You have a point though. I gave Warning away to a friend and Spilt Milk is now one of my favorite CDs, so guess who triumphed in the end? :p

That's a very astute observation...not to mention hilarious. Way to go webdiva
This song dissapoints from the beginning. I heard it start and thought it was \"Whiskey Bar\" from the Doors. After that, almost anything is a let-down.
This is like a hungarian western or something... but I like it ;)
These guys have just TOTALLY ripped off Jellyfish for this song. Take 10 minutes and listen to any 3 songs on \"Spilt Milk\" by Jellyfish and you\'ll see what I mean.
Da Wiz likes this. I must admit mate, it\'s grown on me too ;)
