Walking south along the river
Never had he found that twist of pleasure
Remembering times when they were younger
Setting the town on fire

And watching as his fellow friends
Fell apart in the wake
Claiming it was all just a mistake
When his finger pulled the trigger

And he shot everyone

It was all just a mistake
When he shot everyone

Nothing will stand in the way
When hunger hasn't eaten for days
Scrounges around where ends meet
Then disappears into the fray

He hopes for a while he can reconcile
But the pain that never dies
The ghosts of his family constantly
Gnawing at his inside

He pulls out a worn out photo
And an old handmade gun
Wishes it was he who was frying
When he set the whole town on fire

He walks off crying
He shot everyone

Once again RP introduces me to something impressive. Glad to discover Calexico tonight.
Coloradojohn - bringing the truth… you are a legend sir
I absolutely love turning on RP and I get my love of Calexico all the time!  Thank You!
They should be called Calexicool.
I could exhaust myself rhapsodizing about the talent of this band...and indeed, I should, but almost every time I ever decided to comment on them, I was swept away by the distraction their music directly had upon me...
Anyway, they are in a league of their own, and we are all the better for it!

it's almost like two bands influenced by the same sorts of music wouldn't occasionally put out similar sounding music from time to time
shocking!

This album was released in September 2008, The Old 97s "Blame It On Gravity" was released in May of 2008.  Anyhow, both songs have very common, minor-key, "Latin-flavored" chord progressions, even though the two songs are not using the same chord progressions.  They do sound very similar, especially the tempo, but it's unlikely there was any "stealing" involved.
Just got in to these guys thanks to RP...love this sound..like a Tarintino movie
Why to I like this so much.... {#Stupid}

Oh well, I just do. {#Music}

Freaking Love Calexico! Thanks for turning me on to them...Radio Paradise is like a music smorgasbord...
great track. I thought it was a little shy on the Latin percussion myself; other than that, most enjoyable.

The Lone Ranger's horse was named "Silver"; "Trigger" was Roy Rogers' caballo.  It think "El Gatillo" means "the trigger".

Such a great band ! More please.

Could be, could be. Perhaps it's their way of saying "get stuffed"?

Meanwhile, I'm liking this.
PS Just realised that my comment might be considered inflammatory, sorry, didn't mean it that way.

Bill, how on Earth did you manage that seamless segue? Pure enjoyment as a listener!
This song always reminds me a bit of the game Grim Fandango... :)
Typically awesome stuff! and I love looking into the cover art — reminds me of the solid dashboard and interior of the old Impala I used to drive through that same part of the world; dig it!

But I still like it. Saw them live a few years ago.  They're really good.  Impressive musicians and have a really really cool stage presence.  I have a hard time hating anything Calexico.
Whole that album sun and magic. 9 mark {#Cowboy}

Victor Jara Manifiesto

This song of the musician Victor Jara, i dedicated to all members of Calexico, Joey Burns, John Convertino, Paul Niehaus, Jacob Valenzuela, Martin Wenk, Volker Zander, who had the presence of mind, inspiration, talent and daring, performing the great musical work, the album "Carried To Dust" and all the meaning that goes with it.
And if there are values that I preserve and respect in life is courage, authenticity and human sense of human beings who do not give up their values and feelings and not allow themselves to intimidate, subjugate and dispose of its human condition, sometimes putting at risk the most precious thing there is, life itself. These are the Elected.
It's out there, many "gentlemen", who think themselves lords and masters of the world,  that instrumentalize fear, insecurity, chaos theory, to refer people to your interests and try make the story backwards in reverse to developments and achievements in human history. The most precious thing there exist,  is the Human.  Each Person. Each citizen. Without the contribution of people, these "masters" are nothing.
You need to create wealth. It's true. But the wealth must be redistributed and reinvested to society, for the good of the whole community, and not concentrated in the hands of usurers. Each and every one citizen is the most important and it is this concern which must always be on the table that has the responsibility to represent them in an organized society.

Yo no canto por cantar
ni por tener buena voz
canto porque la guitarra
tiene sentido y razon,
tiene corazon de tierra
y alas de palomita,
es como el agua bendita
santigua glorias y penas,
aqui se encajo mi canto
como dijera Violeta
guitarra trabajadora
con olor a primavera.

Que no es guitarra de ricos
ni cosa que se parezca
mi canto es de los andamios
para alcanzar las estrellas,
que el canto tiene sentido
cuando palpita en las venas
del que morira cantando
las verdades verdaderas,
no las lisonjas fugaces
ni las famas extranjeras
sino el canto de una alondra
hasta el fondo de la tierra.

Ahi donde llega todo
y donde todo comienza
canto que ha sido valiente
siempre sera cancion nueva.

Nice!
I think we're on a roll...now how about if we start a "Keep the Music" campaign and someone tech-saavy create a torrent site for perpetuity...who's up for it?
Good song, good mix... Now only need some Los Lobos and we slide nto the afternoon...
Just gorgeous. I'm sure that Calexico must be close to the most-played band on RP, and there's no argument with that from me!

Calexico are probably my favourite RP discovery (which has been somewhat costly, since the back catalogue obviously needed purchasing...). Love this track especially {#Yes}

I was just thinking this morning about a trip to Puerto Vallarta during which I stepped into a cantina to waste a little time before meeting up with my wife and kids. On the stool next to me sat.......... a vision (!). I had to get out of their fast.
