Been meaning to mention this regarding all of the snarky post about Russian involvement solely to assist Trump.   Quite frankly Russia does not even care who actually wins these elections though they have to be quite pleased with the prospect of a Trump/Sanders election cycle, they win either way big time probably even more so with Comrade Sanders who they can run roughshod over.   No, it is about sowing doubt and discontent about the purity of our election process.  Nothing pleases them more than to hear the shouts of questioning the validity of the last or any election.  They rejoice at your lamentations, that is what it is really about.   They are exploiting our extreme tunnel vision of partisanship and we fall for it hook, line and sinker.

It looks pretty clear that their overall intention is to shake American confidence in the electoral process regardless of outcomes, but what makes you so sure they don't care about the election results?  Was it something you read on RT?  It seems to me that Putin is pretty content with the excuse-making lackey presently occupying the White House - a President who won't even admit to any sort of interference despite abundant evidence from his own intelligence agencies.

“He just said it’s not Russia. I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be,” Trump said. “So I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today. And what he did is an incredible offer. He offered to have the people working on the case come and work with their investigators, with respect to the 12 people. I think that’s an incredible offer.”

Trump's motivations are clearly to protect his shield and his election and are entirely selfish which is mo for virtually every Trump motivation.  And yes Trump is certainly easier to deal with from Putin's perspective than our previous leaders from either party and quite frankly I think it is a good thing.  America's culpability in Russian-American relations has not been addressed properly imo, in short we been playing dirty pool with Russia and her interest as much as they have been with us and I actually think this is a positive for us to right some of the wrongs.  Sanders would no doubt be good for Russia as well, but at too much of a cost of our interest and whether you like Trump or not, his nationalist way of thinking is no doubt from an American first viewpoint whether it turns out that way or not.

But, but, but.....collusion!{#Lol}  Seriously though we need to quit messing around with other countries and let them sort it out themselves.  Russia is right to do something about our aggression and protect her interest.

The Russian Spy Who Wasn't
The U.S. government went looking for someone to blame for Russia's interference in the 2016 election—and found Maria Butina, the perfect scapegoat.

Five Takeaways From New Reports on Russia’s Social Media Operations

The Senate Intelligence Committee released on Monday two new reports that it commissioned about the Russian campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media platforms during the 2016 election and beyond.
The reports, by teams led by experts at the cybersecurity company New Knowledge and Oxford University, fill out a portrait of the impressive operations by the Internet Research Agency in St. Petersburg.

1. To a degree not fully appreciated, the Russian operation relentlessly targeted African-Americans.

While most media attention has focused on Facebook pages appealing to the political right, the Russian effort aimed at black Americans was actually larger, reaching almost as many people.

2.  One clear Russian goal, pursued on multiple fronts, was to suppress Democratic turnout in 2016.

The Russian accounts urged people who had backed Bernie Sanders against Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination to stay home or to vote for Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, in the general election. The New Knowledge report also describes what it calls “malicious misdirection” and “tweets designed to create confusion about voting rules.”

3.   All of the emphasis on Facebook has obscured the huge role of Instagram, as well as the Russian activity on many smaller platforms.

...

The New Knowledge report argues that the Internet Research Agency’s presence on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, has been underestimated and may have been as effective or even more effective than its Facebook effort.

...

Both reports note that there was hardly a social platform, however obscure, that the Internet Research Agency did not invade: Reddit, Google+, Vine, Gab, Meetup, Pinterest, Tumblr and more.

...

But the campaign against the United States in 2016 was historic on several counts: It was the first major foreign influence campaign aimed at affecting a presidential election; it was the biggest influence operation ever to be aimed at Americans from another country; and it was the biggest attack ever — using virtual, not physical weapons — on the United States by its old Cold War adversary, albeit slimmed down from the Soviet Union to Russia alone. It will be studied for years.

5. After the United States government and the social media companies exposed their operations, did the Russians stop doing this?

Remarkably, no. The Russian trolls shift their tactics, swap corporate names and move to new buildings, but they don’t stop.

...

“Over the past five years, disinformation has evolved from a nuisance into high-stakes information war,” the New Knowledge report concludes. American concerns about protecting free speech have made both the government and the platforms uneasy about acting decisively, it says.
