Well I used to live right down the road from that venue but used to's ain't working very well for me these days...let's see, it's about 1700 miles.  I made that drive at least ten times and Shiloh was my copilot, but I digress...anyway...Would love to go to Lyons or Red Rocks or just hang out at buddy's house playing records or jamming but I still digress...story of my life...

Took the kids to Steve Earle last night. Iffy crowd, sort of thin and a lot of drunk, so you can hear them talking over Copperhead Road. Which is really saying something. The band seemed pretty worn out. Long tour, day off today to go fishing in Montana, so they pretty much stuck to the game plan. And I don't know what the deal is with the drummer but it seemed like every other song turned into Orange Blossom Special. A solid show, though, total pro and his stories are good even if you've heard them before. This tour is supporting his Guy album, all covers of Guy Clark songs. The stories he told there were cool and funny and he made some of those songs really come to life. Only a couple of songs I would have left out of the show, and of course a TON that he didn't do that I'd have liked to hear. Ah, well.

Here's the first half of Copperhead Road. Forgive me if I put the phone away and enjoyed it once it kicked in. ;-)

Justine spotted some $13 tickets on a resale site, normally $89+fees, for Lyle Lovett & his Large Band, tonight in Bakersfield. Crazy. If they turn out to be frauds, we're out thirty bucks and we're in Bakersfield. If they're good, we're in the orchestra pit!

The tickets were good; we were on banquet chairs, in front of the front row of theater seats. Weird, but right. up. front. Memphis horns, Francine, the LARGE band. It was great.

Sunday, we're taking the kids to see Steve Earle and the Dukes in a club in Billings. Ear plugs for everyone! Last show there, Shakey Graves, Justine and I and over half the crowd left because it was brutally loud.

That sounds like it was fantastic!

I wonder how we, as patrons, could do something about that loudness? Like in the old days yelling FOCUS at the movies.

When the punk kids are leaving with their hands over their ears and the grownups are hanging out in the lounge and the crowd at the front of the stage is half what it was during the pre-show "Africa" singalong... they should be able to figure that out.

Anyway, I complained to someone a few days later, not an employee, and they said they knew the sound guy and would say something. It probably came out as "some old dude said it was too loud so you're doing it right."
