Sad day in the music business indeed...

Regarding the Rifleman...I watch Rawhide and Wyatt Earp that aired when I was four or five years old...Trippy indeed. The gun culture and the killing POC without blinking an eye...Amazing brainwashing for young children watching in the '50's.

It's a bit weird to see those space suits—state of the art in their day, once the very uniforms of The Future—and think, "Wow, those suits look dated."

RIP, Michael. Hope you weren't too disappointed that you didn't get to walk on the moon.

Daniel Kaminsky, Internet Security Savior, Dies at 42
“He did things because they were the right thing to do, not because they would elicit financial gain,” his mother, Mrs. Maurer, said.

(When a reporter asked Mr. Kaminsky why he did not exploit the DNS flaw to become immensely wealthy, he said that doing so would have been morally wrong, and that he did not want his mother to have to visit him in prison.)

Silicon Valley’s giants sought Mr. Kaminsky’s expertise and often tried to recruit him with lucrative offers to serve as their chief information security officer. He politely declined, preferring the quiet yeoman’s work of internet security.

Now that is funny!   Classy too.   In passing, did Dylan ever receive singing/voice lessons?

Supposedly, when Dylan was starting out he visited Woody Guthrie and played for him. Woody said, "I don't know if that boy is going to make it as a songwriter but he sure has got a voice."

I know Scott didn't care much for Poco... I did.

Anyway... sad to hear about the passing of Rusty Young... https://www.nytimes.com/2021/0...

NPR put up a piece on him.
Among the great folk and blues artists to play live on Fass' radio show were Joni Mitchell, Odetta, Carly Simon, Taj Mahal, The Incredible String Band, Moondog, The Holy Modal Rounders, Phil Ochs, and Bob Dylan, who joked around and took listener calls on one show in 1966.

One caller praised Dylan's writing and guitar playing but urged him to "sing a little better."

"I appreciate that," Dylan responded. "Good, solid, rock-bottom, foundational criticism."

I owe Mr Fass an awful lot of thankfulness and gratitude without ever having actually heard the man on air.

A lot of what you posted about Mr Fass could have been (actually was) written about Gene Shay at WXPN in Philly.  They were peers.  Gene died of COVID last year at 85.  He was one of the founders of the Philly folk festival and had a lot to do with the folk / alternative vibe in Philly for 50 years.
