No idea.  Maybe Youngkin. Perhaps Vance (rumours).

VP will apparently be appearing in the roll call @ ~ 2:27pm CST

Minutes after Saturday’s shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pa., liberals began flooding social media platforms with conspiracy theories.

They claimed the blood on former president Donald Trump’s ear was from a theatrical gel pack; that the shooting was a “false flag,” perhaps coordinated by the Secret Service in collaboration with the Trump campaign; that the scene of a bloody Trump raising his fist under an American flag was “staged.”
. . .

The shooting threw into overdrive a phenomenon dubbed “BlueAnon” — a play on the right wing conspiracy theory QAnon — that refers to liberal conspiracy theories online. As more Americans lose trust in mainstream institutions and turn to partisan commentators and influencers for information, experts say they are seeing a big uptick in the manufacture and spread of BlueAnon conspiracy theories, a sign that the communal warping of reality is spreading well beyond the right.

I agree that the shooter really did fire an AR-15 style weapon and killed/wounded people. Trump's life was likely in danger although this assassination attempt like others before it (eg JFK) raises puzzling issues. Trump's ear, for instance, doesn't look cut, torn or damaged. Has there been any statement from a physician? Why did the Secret Service do such a poor job? There should have been Secret Service on that roof and the bodyguards who rushed to protect Trump did a lousy job of protecting him. They could not have had full certainty that the scene was secure when they let Trump walk off the stage and they failed to fully protect him as they did so.

A number of people I talked to/chatted with shared my initial reaction—"this looks staged"—without any prompting on my part. That hunch, however incorrect, seems to be pretty common. But we've been here before. The country's evolving reaction to the JFK assassination served (serves) as a Rorschach test about Americans' view of the federal government and the state of our nation. That seems to be happening again here but the test is about Trump's trustworthiness.

Which leads the skeptical towards conspiracy thinking—"this looks staged." That same type of thinking shows up among Trump supporters—"Biden was behind it or his rhetoric caused the shooting" or "all the cases against Trump are just election interference BS." And conspiracy thinking is extremely durable—as of 2013, over half of Americans still thought there was a conspiracy to kill JFK.

It hasn't been confirmed that Trump played golf on Sunday, just that he went to his Bedminster Country Club "to recover".  But, yes, Twitter/X is a cesspool, as the linked article shows.

The questions are silly and pointless.  If it was staged, then finding someone to "act", including the guy who died in the audience... is impressive.  Common sense says that Trump was just extremely lucky... let's assume that until we have proof to the contrary.

The dismissal of the case merely reinforces the fact that the judge will do every and anything to support Trump.  Releasing today... c'mon.  I wonder if she and Clarence worked that out together as a way to ensure no trial before the election.

I honestly think the past few days may eventually help the Dems (if they're smart... huge IF).  The polls are going to crash on Biden.  Beyond the standard convention bump, Trump is going to get the debate win, plus an assassination nudge... which are going to put Joe behind by a lot in all of the swing states.

Maybe he can be convinced he can't win.  If he does back out...all of the energy will move toward the Dems.  The interest in the process will overrun anything Trump does, and he'll grow irritated... which makes him irrational and a risk to the Right.  Joe thinks he's survived the debate and that he's now everywhere doing OK...but the damage is done.  Maybe Trump pulling away will finally convince Joe that his legacy is about to crumble.

WTFGOP@DogginTrumpBefore I go to sleep tonight, I still have so many more questions:

1. if Trump was injured by a bullet, why did he go golfing today? Which tells me he wasn’t hit by a bullet & he’s lying

2. After watching the video of the shooting 1000 times, why were the press allowed to take a picture of Trump fist pumping from so close up?

3. How come we haven’t received any news reports on Trump’s health? We had to hear about Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities for two weeks. But Trump is supposedly injured & not one news media outlet has asked him to step down or inquired about his medical records

4. Instead of golfing today, why didn’t the asshole who is supposedly going to give a unity speech, not go to the hospital of the victims that were shot behind him?

5. Why does he have a media blackout with his team? If he’s fine, then don’t you think his team would’ve put out a press release?

6. When Trump went golfing today, where was the bandage over his wound?

Let’s think about all these for a while and I’ll unload another few more questions tomorrow. Because let me tell you, I have hundreds.

The difference between the last few months and Trump before is A) he seems to be getting some good advice, and B) he appears to be listening.

Going silent after the debate... good move.  Joe dug is own grave, so let his struggles take up the news cycle.  He delayed picking a running mate... kept generally quiet.

After Saturday, he is preaching the need to "tone it down"... and "come together".  Trump?  Really?

His campaign advisors are doing a really good job of playing toward the middle.  They see the undecided voter as someone who won't reject Trump, so long as he isn't "Crazy Donnie".  They don't watch the speeches or rallies and don't follow politics online.  His handlers are doing a good job of making him seem reasonable/rational, even though he's not.

Republicans have learned that the middle doesn't hold you accountable for your words and actions.  His SCOTUS selections all said that Roe was settled law...until they got their hands on a clear majority.  Trump is following that logic now.  Project 2025...what's that?  No more "Day 1 Dictator Donnie"...now it's "can't we all just get along".   Following the election... everything will change.

A Brief History of Trump and Violence
The assassin’s bullet that grazed Donald Trump’s ear thankfully missed its mark. But that can’t be allowed to erase the long, ugly history of Trump’s dalliance with violence.
