I see the GOP now as someone in a zombie movie who's been bitten. They aren't going to recover, and they'll just recruit others to join their group - unless the non-infected form an island of themselves, away from the original group.
Democrats need to bind together, despite their wildly different ideas of what the future should be, and the GOP needs to split like an amoeba into two parts: Trump-worshippers and folks who espouse smaller government, fewer taxes, more freedom/fewer rules. Obviously, the current GOP has nothing to do with personal freedom (see all their new lawmaking), and aren't at all about smaller government with less intervention. That version of the GOP needs to get its footing again.
American elections are all about voter turnout. You need to keep your base and as many swing voters as possible engaged and motivated to get out to vote. In actuality, I think most swing voters don't really swing between parties but swing between voting and not voting.
That's why voter suppression in predominantly democrat districts is so important to the republicans.
For me, the priority is convincing the Republican Party to turn away from Trump.

A lot of people I know are going to switch parties to vote for her, for this reason. I have said (here and elsewhere) that I will send her a Hallmark card and never vote for her.
LOL! Fair enough. I do remember you making that point earlier.
Clearly, I have little or no concern for many local issues that may be of great importance to you and others in your community.
For me, the priority is convincing the Republican Party to turn away from Trump. Most of the time, the choice for sitting president is between tweedle dee and tweedle dum. Centrist political forces keep things predictable and relatively stable. US powerful special interests act in a fairly consistent manner. Communication is easy.
You should watch or re-watch the testimony of Rusty Bowers and Brad Raffensperger. Both men voted for Trump. Bowers said he'd vote for Trump again if he ran against Biden.
Both men were threatened and harassed beyond belief.
Exactly. That is my point. Most unfortunate.
Perhaps unrelated, but here and there in US-based social media I am seeing some really disrespectful, nasty back and forth in the comments section. (RP is rather well behaved by comparison.)
Between the decline in civil discourse and the rampant lying that that passes for 'politics', I am worried. The world is a very technologically complex place these days. A constant stream of personal insults and mistruths is not helping.
How much courage does it take to challenge a liar and attempted thief?

For me that is an odd question. For one, I cannot vote for Liz Cheney or anybody else in the USA. Secondly, I tend not to support people but prefer to support specific policies or policy agendas.
I do not support the hyper-partisan and polarized political behaviour of so many Americans. That will lead to the faster decline of US power and cause all kinds of problems for those of us in small, rich western democracies.
In the case of Liz Cheney, I admire her courage to challenge the former president and his supporters. I admire the way she carries herself in the public eye. I do not have to look in order to know that she and I likely disagree on a whole host of policies.
Hypothetically speaking, if I was a US citizen and lived in her riding, I would likely vote for her. As a reward for her persistent political risk taking and in part because I am so thoroughly disgusted with the policies of the Democrats. There is no third or fourth viable option.

I applaud her actions and respect her for that. Nothing more.

"thank you for being a slightly less awful hack of a human" I'm sure there's a whole section.
"Roses are red, sometimes they're pink, you're not always wrong, but you always stink".

Details from the DOJ IG's report regarding the FISA warrants in particular as well as from Durham's ongoing investigation.
So you are totally unaware of the Steel Dozier and its role and Comey and McCabe's roles in securing FISA warrants ? Never heard of Operation Crossfire Hurricane ?
Surprised you are unaware of any of this. Must be Beltway Blindness or something.
As he contemplates a third straight run for the presidency, Donald Trump has a multimillion-dollar political machine and a network of tax-exempt advocacy groups at his disposal. He also has a plan. The plan is to wrest control of the federal government from what he sees as a policy apparatus dominated by âradical left-wing Democrats.â (...)
Trump has catalyzed racism and racial resentment, misogyny, white status decline, identity threat, economic anxiety, hatred of liberal elites and rage at globalization. Now this incendiary mix is at hand for any willing politician to capitalize on. There is no shortage of takers. But Trump is not just going to walk away and let other candidates stir his toxic political brew.
