Yes, it's called a "non sequitur", a meaningless distraction in an argument.

A zoning restriction in Palm Beach County has no bearing on Florida election law. Trump (or you, for that matter) could be living out of a car parked on the road in front of Mar-a-Lago and claim it as his legal residence for voting purposes.

You're welcome.

I don't think that is quite right. For example native American tribe members living on a reservation in North Dakota were not allowed to register to vote using their homes because they didn't have street addresses. In a perverse catch-22 the state wouldn't grant street addresses to the locations so they were SOL for voting.

My understanding is that if you no longer have a valid address, you vote in the jurisdiction of your last valid address, so Americans I know living abroad vote based on the last residence they had in the US.

There's a difference between state tax rates
, with FL having no tax. NY it's about 8%. A lot of cash with you're so "rich."

This is a much bigger problem for Donnie than you might think....for both FL and NY.

He changed the designation of Mar-a-Lago in 1993 from residence to club, and agreed in the documentation not to live at the property.  He can maintain quarters on the premises, but he can't claim it as his home.  When he went to register to vote earlier this year, he used the White House as his home address, which FL said would make him a DC resident...so he changed it to Mar-a-Lago.    But he is legally not allowed to claim it as a residence under both contract and FL law that prohibits both a club and a residence.  Any guesses why....wait for it....wait....taxation.  The real estate taxes on the home would be much higher as his residence.

So he doesn't technically have a legal domicile in FL yet.  So his vote isn't really valid.  Melania is probably in the same boat.

But that's not the end of the story... NY tax law states the following:

You can only have one domicile. Your New York domicile does not change until you can demonstrate that you have abandoned your New York domicile and established a new domicile outside New York State.

If Donnie doesn't have a valid domicile in FL, then he's still a NY resident.  He's going to owe NY for the period of time since he claimed his residency ended (for non-NY source income, he should have paid tax on his NY source income as a non-resident already....should have).

Besides the obvious stupidity, you have to appreciate how bad the advice this guy gets is from the people willing to work for him.  Somebody really should know all of this.  I dislike the guy...but in this situation, he's got every right to be really pissed off at the crappy advice he's getting.

Does the Florida address protect Trump from prosecution in NY state?   Not sure, would tend to think not.

As democracy is perfected, the office of President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

If you point people to an "unbiased" source of news, they are going to think it is primarily in favor of the other side (in the US right now).  Network news is worthless, and the cable channels have been forced to pick sides (generally against Fox) because Fox has proven that bias is profitable.  People want confirmation they're right...regardless of them being racist, hyper PC, intellectuals, idiots, etc.  Tell me what I know is right...everything else is too much work.

If you haven't seen it yet, the new with Shep Smith on CNBC at 7 pm (est at least) seems to be trying to walk the middle.  I've seen it once or twice...but the little I watched seemed to avoid the heavy biases on most stations.  If it is...we'll see if it can last.

There is always bias. Except for some poignant excerpts (on YT), I generally don't watch news. I'd rather read. More efficient, less aggravating.

explains a bit of the disconnect.
I was referring mostly to TV news...and i am sure so was trump.

Nah, Trump refers to all media (both in print and TV) with the exception of his sycophants.

As does Gallup (sans sycophants):
Americans remain largely mistrustful of the mass media as 41% currently have "a great deal" or "fair amount" of trust in newspapers, television and radio to report the news "fully, accurately and fairly."

P.S.: Your original assertion was that "the media has mishandled the pandemic". There's no way of knowing you're referring to TV news only.

wasnt referring to tv only. print media also has also mishandled the pandemic...but with print, its easier to filter what you expose yourself to.

I'm gonna go out on a ledge and say trump doesnt read much

Likely, though it has been reported he gets a selection of positive news articles each morning.

Regardless, he's still very much aware when the "Amazon Washington Post" or the "Failing New York Times" write something he doesn't like. See his tweets on what he refers to as the collective "LameStream Media" which includes both.

There's a remote control...
