I see people getting all up in arms about this and I really don't get why. I thought, "Oh, Trump's done something sort of possibly useful" and gave myself kudos for giving credit where credit is due. And then I found out it's an Obama-era plan and so there you go.
Yeah, I read the article to, but it would still be fun if we could.

In spite of a previous horrible experience with AT&T customer service, we are considering going back to them. P is very unhappy with her LG/Android device and wants to go back to an iPhone. When I compared AT&T's phone lease/plan to Verizon/Sprint/T-Mobile; AT&T comes in with the lowest price on the package. My phone is paid for by my employer and my current contract is up the end of this month, so I will be going back to an iPhone as well.
T-Mobile has a senior plan. over 55 gets you 2 phone lines for $35 ea. unlimited. the price includes all taxes and fees.

You paid a dollar for an iPhone6? You are the Queen of the Deal. Costco's lawyers were probably wrestling with how to deny your rebate...for four months.
Well, they certainly didn't make the rebate process transparent, and it took some determination on my part to get it. I'm sure they count on people NOT being determined.
I waited and waited and waited, and finally found a deal on an iPhone6 through CostCo about a year ago. The phone was $100, with a mail-in rebate of $99 (which took FOUR MONTHS to be processed, but still). I have an old Verizon plan (for "civil" employees) that I grandfathered in. I have been VERY happy with the phone. And by getting rid of my landline I actually have lowered my monthly bill.

$8/month for pay-as-you-go phone service from tracfone. Includes some data but I only turn that on when I'm traveling and need to look something up. Otherwise I just wait until I find some wifi.
I had a Tracfone dumbphone for years, loved it. My wife still does, ditto. My kids have done the Tracfone smartphone thing too, great results. Coverage is not perfect, but you're risking $15. If it doesn't work for you walk away and hook your phone up to somebody else.
I recently had some issues with my phone, took it down to Verizon for a fix. They clucked their tongues at me because it was soooo old—V2 vs. the current V6. Whatever. Still works fine. You can pick up last year's phone on eBay from a hipster who's gotta have the latest thing for a pittance. Bonus if they forget to wipe the memory!
way ahead of ya my man, we use the old school method of communicating with different color materials as you can clearly see on the 3rd line from the bottom that I am ordering a pizza .
Enjoy it while you can. Trump just announced tariffs on imported string and tin cans.
