Elections, politics in general, can be a team sport.  When it comes together, it is a thing of beauty to watch.

In the British parliamentary system that Canada inherited, sometimes cabinet ministers can play almost as salient and influential role as the prime minister.  Sometimes partnerships often representing distinct constituencies come together and wield power in a constructive fashion that promotes stability and steady growth.

Sometimes major parties will lift as in steal or 'liberally borrow ideas and policy platforms from smaller parties.  Translation:   at some level, policy is being seriously discussed and considered during the election campaign period.

Proportional representation in Europe encourages coalition building.  It encourages compromise in the spirit of cooperation.   In a modern post-information technology economy, there is no practical, cost-effective alternative to the politics of inclusion.  Much of private business is already there with the increasing prioritization of corporate social responsibility.

The US presidential system exacerbates the more corrosive aspects of the ethos of possessive individualism that drives both good fortune and bad.

A pretty good idea. Individually, I don't see a way for them to beat Trump. But as a team, they might pull it off.

So Thomas L. Friedman is saying that he wants a British parliamentary type government for the USA?

I wholeheartedly concur.

Indeed. Responsibility. Sharing is caring. A void is a pretty dark place for resting assured of anything of consequence...

Ahhemmmm, if someone like Bernie or Lizzie gets elected, we can kiss that America goodbye anyway. H-E-L-L-O. I recommend watching Bernie speaking @communism, there are at least 20 vids. WAKE THE FUK UP!  VOTE TRUMP OR JUST STAY HOME AND DON'T VOTE AT ALL.  I mean it.

A bit dramatic...

"If they don’t join together — if the Democrats opt for a circular firing squad — you can kiss the America you grew up in goodbye."

I'm sure for a lot of people it's gone  already. Times change.
