Pretty much the same fear-mongering sentiments every Conservative/Neo-Con/Right-Wing  pundit or news vendor has been saying.  Why should Muravchik be any different?  Still, his "evidence" is pretty dodgy: Sanders quotes from 1985, tying Corbin quotes to AOC because she spoke to him on the phone once?  Anyhow, I don't foresee any of them becoming president soon and only one of them is running.

No on first part and yes on second.  Just because something is evil, doesn't mean nothing else is. {#Wink}

Edit: Evil is not the correct word for Socialists and of course my tongue was in cheek.  The better separation is racism is evil, but socialism is more of a threat to the Republic.  The numbers are holding pretty steady on actual racist and someday will bottom out, but there will always be racist.  It is just a matter on what percent it bottoms out on as civilization progresses and right now I believe it is holding at about 10% for white supremacist anyway.  Point of all that is, racist or any other facist right  wing person or organization will never gather enough clout or votes to acquire power and send us into an authoritarian dystopian apocalyptic downward spiral.  No, the true threat will be wrapped in words such as love, compassion, equality and justice and will come from the naive dreamers who will appeal to the emotions of our progressive society, gain power and then you know the rest of the story............

That's pretty much how some people reasoned in the 30's of the last century as well, esp. those with means.

Amazon went on a phishing campaign to find out who was willing to give up what in order to have them with their H2Q sweepstakes.  They took notes for future needs to exploit localities when it would serve their own interests.  The search provided them with more useful information than anything else.  I wouldn't want an Amazon HQ near anywhere I lived.

Phishing campaign...absolutely.  they received volumes of data on the countless municipalities that were tripping over themselves to get invited to the party. Looking at the spot where Amazon was going to build didn't look realistic from a logistics standpoint.

I had edited my prior post to correct some wording.  But yes, I know it's not like the city and state were just handing over $3B, not sure why she pursues that notion - it's almost like Trump alleging that China is paying the tariffs.  I remember seeing the (an?) Amazon-NY agreement somewhere (can't find it now), where X amount of funding/incentives would be granted by NYS/NYC at different stages of building and different numbers of people hired, etc.  The total building subsidy from NYS was something like $500M, not billions.

“We were subsidizing those jobs,” Ocasio-Cortez said Thursday. “The city was paying for those jobs. Frankly, if we were willing to give away $3 billion dollars for this deal, we could invest those $3 billion in our district, ourselves, if we wanted to. We could hire out more teachers. We can fix our subways. We can put a lot of people to work for that amount of money if we wanted to.”

I think she went to B.U.  The $3B figure was largely based on taxpayer-backed subsidies (monetary grants) and incentives, not tax breaks.  I could understand some lawmakers at the city and state levels thinking is too steep, but I thought that was mostly ironed out already.  But still, she's out of touch thinking there's just money sitting around somewhere waiting to be distributed.
