You'll have plenty of time for jumping, Gene.

I'm hoping the Sox have a respectable season but from what I've read they'll finish around 4th in the AL East and out of the playoffs.

So back last year when the "season" finally got underway, Ricketts always looking for new revenue streams decided that as long as he couldn't get any fans in the bleachers he might as well use them for advertising banners.

Nothing wrong with that.  There's an outside chance he might even use some of the money to get us a pitching staff.  However when they started letting a limited number of fans back this year they are still there albeit a little shorter.

The first thing I wondered was are they computing the 20% bleacher capacity based on the normal occupancy or the occupancy with all those seats removed.  I strongly suspect the former which is kind of cheating on the reg.  If the latter however, aside from his taking some of the already scarce seats you have to worry if when we can go back to full capacity will fan revenue be able to offset the ad revenue or will he try to make them permanent.  As I mentioned earlier it wasn't going to be the normal bleacher crowd this year anyway and at this point people are probably so glad to be back that they aren't going to complain about much of anything, but I'm kind of surprised I haven't seen more fans bitching about it.  It's an outrage.  These are the prime heckling/home run catching seats.  A good percentage of homers now hit a banner and bounce back down to front row where nobody is sitting causing a crowd of fans to all run down to try to get it ignoring all social distancing protocols.  It's just not safe I tell you.  At least they left my little section next to the batter's eye open, not that I'll be able to get there this year.

it was just a matter of time before sports got "more" politicized

boycotts/embargoes and posturing probably won't do much or be as effective as negotiating directly with decision makers

the response is just as silly, calling out the double standard of "doing business with china" in light of their horrific human rights abuses

in the end, it just makes it difficult for the little guy/fans/consumers

prediction: sports/olympics are going to continue to suffer

because poor problem solving skills?

I agree that they will score runs, but there is no early season starting pitchers probably not until July which will put them in a major hole. I’m still optimistic and are saying 3rd.

Not so sure about Chaim Bloom cause he’s a stats and computer formula guy and has already gutted the outfield. I prefer a gut feeling over stats and numbers only myself.

I still don't understand why they traded Benintendi so quickly. Maybe he just wanted out. You could see why the Sox were willing to move on from JBJ though: he didn't hit consistently enough. He's an awesome fielder, I gotta say.

Apparently the Dodgers fan group Pantone 294 were sincere when they rented out a billboard near Fenway to thank the Sox for trading Mookie to LA but hey it still burns.

From what I can tell this season won't be very memorable for the Olde Towne Team. Sean McAdam, formerly of the Providence Journal and now at Bostonsportsjournal.com , predicts the Sox will finish in 4th place in the AL East. His thumbnail summary:

"4. Red Sox. At the very least, they’ll be more competitive and entertaining. They’ll score plenty of runs, per usual, but the pitching is very much a question mark."

That's been their MO for God knows how long...

    It does not.

Giants start the season with interleague play. Game time somewhere around midnight.

What's surprising about the tickets at Wrigley is they seem to be reasonably priced, at least compared to similar seats at Coors or SF (I literally have no idea what they call New Candlestick these days. PacBell? 3Com?)

Edit: Over the course of 20 years or so, it's been

There is no rhyme nor reason to ticket pricing that I've been able to discern over the years.  Pre-covid there be one or two games a season that would have $10 or $15 seats and others with nothing under $70.  Allegedly season ticket holders are being given priority this year with raffles for the rest of us to have a chance.  I think they have sold tickets for the first couple of home stands, but I haven't been able to find what they were asking for them.  A lot of their web pages have changed their addresses this year and I haven't been able to find the one with all the pricing for all the games if it still exists.  The official schedule has the little ticket icon for the first few games, but clicking on them just gets to a message that the game is sold out and to check back later.  More tickets mysteriously showing up a week or two before the game for one that has been sold out for months is also a pre-covid feature of the system.  I have no idea how and for how much season tickets are resold.  $9 does seem pretty low to me, but who knows?

You can apparently still get single game tickets to the Saturday Pirates game, now showing $49 for the nosebleeds.

I just bought a pair of Twins tix for April 13th. I'm elated, almost giddy, to have this step towards a recognizable normalcy—going to a ball game.  Twins are limiting attendance to about 10K fans in a 40K park.  But hey, it's live ML baseball, (and I am vaxxed!)

Edit: Upper deck, third row, behind home plate.  $20 seats, $26 per, after fees.
