You know you're getting old when...

Edit: Stan Musial would have turned 99 yesterday.

There used to be a small-town bar south of us 30 miles into Mormon territory; the old guy behind the bar had been a buddy of Musial's at some point, and had a baseball on the shelf, grimy from 50 years of bar and grill smoke-funk, signed to him from Stan. I checked with a collector in the mall about it and he said 'nearly worthless' in that condition but we all figured he was hoping to get it for cheap. Anyway he said not to try to clean it, just put it in a case with all the grime still intact; that that's a preservative, basically. So I bought the guy a little case for it and he said "when I sell this place" meaning "when I die," I could have it. Of course his kids had other ideas and I didn't fuss about it, but anyway that's my Stan Musial story.

That would be cool if you get it.

That was about 25 years ago so I think that ship has sailed.  I just think of random shit sometimes and have to type it out. I'll bet I've told this one before tho.

As if they know something about baseball because...well...it is MLB.COM after all.

This offseason is going to hurt a lot. Braves got Will Smith and it smells like Bumgarner's going there too.

I keep saying it but I guess I'll start to follow Oakland more. I was so proud to be a Giants fan when they lost Melky Cabrera to a drug suspension, then released him when his time was up... and still won the World Series. Now any time someone mentions the Giants, it'll be with a Bonds-era tone of disgust. Again.

Cole’s the real deal, 29 years old and probably looking at a $250 mil contract. That pretty well limits who can sign him. Going into the Series he was 19-0 in his last 26 starts, and Houston won 4 of the 7 he took a no decision in. Also threw down 326 K and a 2.50 ERA. I can see why Madbum is in his shadow LOL. FWIW, I’d love Bumgarner on my team... Also would love Jose Abreu at 1B.

It'll be interesting. I get that he's got an amazing run going, but my know-zero feeling is that he seems sort of mentally fragile. Would he have the same success somewhere else, or is the Houston club just right for him?

I don't know why but I keep reading websites, wondering if the Giants will make a play for Bumgarner or let him go. His star has lost some luster, and he's very much in the shadow of Gerrit Cole for some reason (I'm still not seeing Cole as the GOAT like the papers are trying to suggest) so maybe no one offers him top-tier money and the Giants are able to compete for him after all. Latest guess I read says he's going to Atlanta. Makes sense. Same article says Yasiel Puig is a good one-year fit for SF. So now I want to see Bumgarner stay a Giant and the Giants to sign Puig... the one guy who could get under Bum's skin and fire shit up...

Offseason might not have actual baseball games but it's still a little bit fun...

He has a sort of interesting contract... he can get out any time if he wants to, the Sox can cut his salary if he's not healthy. It seems like if you're only great and not GOATrout they're making noises like no one's going to get a massive payday so he's probably smart to stay put.

There's talk of Bumgarner becoming a Twin. Guh.

Ok. This is my first Joe Buck moment.

Springer catches the ball to end the top of the 7th.

Joe Buck: "Springer...sends game 7...into the 7th inning stretch"

 Yup.
