Yeah our season started out with a bit of crazy possibilities, but then our 'rebuilding' brings up the question of what does the 're' stand for.

Nice to see 3 day games at Wrigley for the Padres series. Also nice to see a somewhat competent Pads team this year, although LA prohibits anything miraculous, they are pretty exciting to watch for once, and seem to have a good never say die attitude. Machado (dick), Reyes and Renfroe (not dicks) all have 25+ dongs, Tatis Jr would likely be NL Rook of the Year if not for Pete Alonso, and #1 prospect and hopefully Tatis' long term MI partner Luis Urias has been called up today to man 2B. Because f*ck Ian Kinsler... Also Chris Paddack has been a joy to watch pitch and Kirby Yates is this year's Rolaids Fireman, at least to date. Though I don't consider myself to be a Padres fan it is nice to see them not suck, and they are a fun team.Hope you enjoy the games, PSOB!

My emotithingies aren't working, if they were I'd put a Cheers one here...

I can't remember it ever happening and I'm not totally sure what the proper behavior at Wrigley would be if you caught a home run that needed to go back in your beer.  I think that even though it is alcohol abuse it should be thrown back beer and all.  I mean would really want to drink something that had had one of those kind of balls in it?

I know we've had this conversation before... the article gives dads a pass if they're with kids. I personally always imagine myself as the sole line of defense, protecting row-mates from a missile, so a glove is a piece of PPE. You're more aware than most of the odds of a ball landing in any one particular seat, so the burden of lugging a mitt around doesn't make a lot of sense, statistically. But if one does come your way and you don't have a glove, you really can't make a play for it without a risk of being caught on camera wincing at your broken hand or just mis-playing the ball. At which point Giants announcer Mike Krukow will shout, "Bring your glove, Meat!" All this assumes the person who brings a glove is qualified to use it. Nothing worse than those guys with shiny new leather who couldn't catch a cold, screwing up the clean catch for someone else. The whole thing is fraught with peril.

There is an element of location to it.  All the way out in the bleachers they generally have lost enough velocity that bare handing it is not all that dangerous.  Most of the places where you used to be able to get high velocity short distance fouls have been and are continuing to get screened off these days.  If you there accompanied by a kid you are of course allowed to bring your mitt as well to aid in getting the practice ball, 3rd out, ballgirl foul that will likely get tossed their way.

I've had this discussion on several occasions with my fellow bleacher creatures.  As a matter of proper ballpark etiquette there is sort of a fuzzy age cut off.  Under 25 and you can be pretty sure they're going to keep it and shouldn't really feel that guilty about it.  Over 40 and they really should know enough to give it to a kid.  That guy looked to be in that gray area of slow learners.

I think it could be cool. Some people think they should get rid of the rule where it's a live ball if the catcher misses strike 3. I think any pitched ball should be live, why should a runner on first get to take second but the batter has to stand there? Runner on 2nd, less than 2 outs, passed ball... right now, the runner on 2nd might stay put and the batter has to just stand there too. If the batter were able to take off for first, the runner at 2nd could run, or bluff, or try to draw a throw... anyway, the batter's going to get 1st base. Even with 2 outs, it's going to go badly for the defense if they try to make a play.

MLB has been around for 143 years and I see little reason for changes like this. Not a fan of having seemingly every friggin tag out play reviewed either, this contributes way more to slow game flow than pitchers or batters taking their time (screw the pitch clock) or mound visits by the catcher. I'm good with electronic balls and strikes but seems what they're using is something like Pitch Trax, which I don't think is the best method. Want electronic strike zones? Sensors at the front and sides of the plate. Front and side Side sensors will tell ya whether a pitch is on the black and the front sensors will also determine if a bat crossed the front of the plate on a check swing, which SHOULD be criteria for swing or no swing. Umps need to determine if pitch is high or low only, all batters are different sizes and have different stances which determines height strike zone. Fairly simple, Green LED and Red LED on ump's mask, red = ball, green = ump needs to rule if ball was in the zone height-wise only. The game was played by pretty consistent rules for 133+ years, now we're looking at some wacky chit. Unnecessary.

Yeah the percentage is pretty small on third strike pb/safe at first...Some parks you can run for days though so should be interesting for sure.
