At least Democrats were consistent with their appraisal of the bankrupt, immoral, clueless, dishonest, erratic, disorganized, racist, incompetent non-politician who was the best the GOP could muster.

And, Presidents don’t really need to tell the public everything. Especially when there are folks out there just itching to find some sort of problem with what they do/say. So when things do come to light: “OMGWTFBBQ - the President was lying to us!”

“The White House can’t just wash away the stink of Hunter Biden’s laptop” <New York Post>. “s a grand jury in Delaware moves closer to potentially indicting Hunter, 52, over alleged tax evasion, money laundering and violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, pressure is mounting on the president finally to explain his role in the international influence-peddling scheme run by his son and his brother Jim Biden while he was vice president. The laptop, along with evidence provided by Hunter’s former business partner Tony Bobulinski, and Treasury documents provided to a Senate inquiry, reveal millions of dollars flowing to the Biden family and associates from dubious foreign sources, including three flashpoint countries vital to US national security: Russia, Ukraine and China. Evidence also exists showing that Joe Biden financially benefited from his then-drug-addicted son’s overseas business dealings — perhaps by several million dollars. White House press secretary Jen Psaki played dumb last week and refused to answer questions from The Post’s Steven Nelson about how the president is navigating conflicts of interest during the Ukraine-Russia war when it comes to sanctioning people who have done business with his family. Specifically, Nelson asked about Russian oligarch Yelena Baturina, who has not been sanctioned, but who allegedly wired $3.5 million on Feb. 14, 2014, to a firm associated with Hunter’s former business partner Devon Archer. That wire was flagged in a suspicious activity report provided by the Treasury Department to a Senate Republican inquiry, chaired by Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson. Now, new evidence has emerged via the laptop showing that Baturina wired as much as $118 million to various offshoots of Rosemont Seneca Partners, the consulting firm co-founded by Hunter, Archer and John Kerry’s stepson, Chris Heinz.” • Hmm. I haven’t followed the detail on this. However, I believe The Bidens would say that the Biden family has form, and this is what it is. Readers?

But you left out the part immediately after that quote, “most Americans will take a position on it solely to reinforce their existing beliefs.” Which is what you did as a follow up.

Oh my.  This is just about the latest Biden lie, blaming the entire rise in gas prices on Putin and walking away from any and all responsibility for his direct affects on the price rise before Putin entered the picture.  I give rgio credit for admitting that Biden's statement is "bullshit", which I will take as the equivalent of calling it a lie, to me.  No one else has.  Instead there is just denial that it is a lie and instead go to great lengths to say how none of it has anything to do with Biden or try and explain it away as a direct result of Trump's policies instead.

To me this is Biden peeing on us and telling us it is raining.  Evidently based upon many of the responses, the majority thinks it is indeed actually just raining.

Right. It’s weird how, in every single US President administration, people look to the cost of gas as some sort of barometer of their performance, like augury or tea leaves or astrology: things that supposedly indicate something but don’t, really.

Kurt, the problem with your argument (as usual) is you want to look at a short period of time and assess blame to prove a political point.

Of course, Russia isn't to blame, for most of the recent increases.  COVID is the primary factor.  Should we blame Trump that oil was worthless 2 years ago?  That companies at one point were paying almost $38 a barrel just to get someone to take it?  Is that Trump's fault?  Right about now, you are preparing to pivot to blaming the Chinese...but that's not the issue, it's what do you do when confronted with issues and how do you address them?

You want to blame the left for Keystone, but it wouldn't have made a difference now, and if you look forward the impact of higher prices is likely to be a renewed interest in fuel economy and EV's, making the pipeline less necessary.  In oil and gas, any investment in infrastructure over the past 10 years has been a net drag on earnings.  That's why they stopped drilling.  Do you blame Trump for that?  How about all of the money Trump gave away as COVID relief (with his name on it) which has generated much of the inflation because demand has outstripped supply?

This shit takes years (or decades) to change.  The problem with Joe's statement isn't that it's bullshit (which it is), it's that most Americans will take a position on it solely to reinforce their existing beliefs.  People are too lazy to consider the realities and assume that other, more intelligent people have done the legwork.  In reality, those people are just using them.

2022

“Bracing for Losses, Democrats Look to Biden for a Reset” <New York Times>. “Gone is the talk of a transformative agenda to remake the country’s social safety net that was once going to be the centerpiece of Democrats’ sales pitch to voters. The words “Build Back Better” were all but forbidden among the groggy lawmakers who arrived after only a few hours of sleep. Speaking to reporters, Representative Pramila Jayapal of Washington, the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, joked that the slogan for Mr. Biden’s defunct social policy and climate bill had become like the evil Voldemort in ‘Harry Potter’ — that which must not be named. Instead, after a year of supporting his agenda, House Democrats have pivoted to beseeching Mr. Biden to act on his own through executive actions to address the outstanding issues they care about before they face voters in November. Ms. Jayapal said the president could pass executive actions to cap the price of insulin, raise the overtime eligibility threshold in order to increase wages for tens of millions of people, and fix the so-called family glitch in the Affordable Care Act. This is when workers with modest incomes can’t afford their employers’ family policies, yet fail to qualify for government subsidies to buy their own insurance.”

“Biden, Democrats Lose Ground on Key Issues, WSJ Poll Finds” <Wall Street Journal>. Wall Street Journal poll. “The survey also found Republicans making gains among minority groups. By 9 percentage points, Hispanic voters in the new poll said they would back a Republican candidate for Congress over a Democrat. The two parties had been tied among Hispanic voters in the Journal’s survey in November. Democratic margins also eroded among Black voters, who favored a Democrat for Congress by 35 percentage points in the new survey, down from 56 points in November. Support for a Republican candidate rose to 27% among Black voters, up from 12% in November.”

2024

“Tulsi Gabbard crosses party lines and goes after the ‘power elite’ in CPAC speech where she earns standing ovation for praising the Durham probe into ‘Clinton corruption’ and blasting FISA courts” <Daily Mail>. “She then asked Ronald Reagan dinner attendees to join her in ‘an alternative universe.’ ‘One where our leaders actually took their oath of office to the Constitution seriously,’ she said. ‘If we were living in this world, they would shut down secret FISA courts and stop three letter agencies like the NSA, FBI and CIA from illegally spying on Americans.’ ‘They would denounce the Attorney General of the United States for his disgraceful attacks on American parents like those Loudoun County and across the country,’ she continued. In Loudoun County, Virginia parents were demonstrating against mask-wearing and the teaching of critical race theory. She then name-dropped Clapper and the Durham probe. Special Counsel John Durham is investigating the origins of the FBI’s Russia probe. Connected to that is the use of FISA warrants, which former President Donald Trump and his allies have criticized as one was used to monitor Carter Page, a foreign policy adviser for the ex-president’s 2016 campaign.” • I don’t know who Gabbard would want second on her ticket, though.

Beliefs, not facts, beliefs.
Lazy is a nice way of putting it...and the media sells them their beliefs with free shipping.

What's interesting about the oil and the supply chain story is not one politician, neither side is encouraging conservation.
Hey America, there is a war in Europe.

That smells like the Theranos defense: she wasn’t defrauding everyone (although the facts show that she was, indeed) but she was just the head of a failed project, and - hey - shit happens, you know?

So the former guy’s promises of a wall, repeal/replace Obamacare, tax breaks for the non-rich, draining the swamp, etc etc etc…That wasn’t fraud, per se. It was just that he failed as a President.

It was naive to think Trumpers would do the right thing (they live for spite). Should have gone with those re-education camps, and squads...
The government’s response resembled what, today, are wild conspiracy theories. Contrary to the assertions of some on the far right, the Biden administration has never suggested going door to door to force people to take coronavirus vaccines. But in the 1890s and 1900s, that actually happened: Squads of men would enter people’s homes in the middle of the night, breaking down doors if necessary, to inject people with smallpox vaccines.
Fauci Squads.
