Not the crowds bit resulting in possible spikes, I get that of course.  I meant whether or not infection rates are higher than estimated or if the strain is weakening or mutating in other ways.  I have read some stuff about possible mutations but like I said, I haven't dug into it too much of late.

My understanding is that people freak out over the fact that there are many strains of the bug but that's to be expected. It will constantly mutate and 99+% will be dead ends but one in a million will succeed. The virus' definition of success, though, isn't necessarily "bigger-faster-stronger," but will simply be whatever allows it to survive to duplicate itself. Ebola goes for explosive growth/jump to the next host easily (but causing the host to die, often before having the opportunity to jump) while most viruses we encounter just duplicate and move on without causing much trouble—without even triggering an immune response. I think coronaviruses are definitely on the more benign end of the spectrum, although obviously not harmless.

They have officially stated that 35% of positive virus carriers are just that carriers and virtually asymptomatic.  I believe the number is much higher and that the strain has lessened its severity.  Basically I believe most people are or have been positive and if you do test positive and are not feeling bad then odds are you are going to stay that way.  We are getting an unintended test of this theory with the large crowds congregating worldwide.  If there is not viral carnage in the coming weeks, we can all breathe a sigh of relief.....for now.

Well, they can't make an "official" statement as fact but the CDC estimates that 35% of coronavirus infections are asymptomatic and that 40% of transmissions are happening before symptoms develop.  I'm not sure where your other theories come from though, but I haven't been reading as much of the science about it lately.

I have to remind people repeatedly, when we talk about “am I positive?” That a positive test is absolutely not a bad thing in almost everyone. The ones that are concerning are starting to become obvious (older, pre-existing conditions). So the average 30-40-even 50 yr old is likely not going to have a significant problem with - the way we understand it now.
Those of you that watched the Andromeda Strain, though, are familiar with the idea that the bug could change. We seem to be seeing that here, since there are different versions of reaction to it (compare NY to LA), and different symptoms (toe rash? Really?)

But, in general, getting a positive test result is absolutely not the same as a death sentence. It just means you take your symptoms seriously and don’t go hug Grandma.

Glad that turned out well. They're not being specific about what part of the facility the infected staff member works in. The home has several different buildings, for different levels of care. Pop is in the memory-care house, with maybe a dozen other residents.

pretty much.

If nothing else, we soon (in 14 days or less) get to find out how meaningful social distancing is when all the protesters and rioters get sick or don't.

More meaningful will be how many cops get infected, only because they are usually a little older than the rioters and less in control of how they interact with others.
