Seated in the front row of Thursdayâs hearing on the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, former D.C. Police officer and riot victim Michael Fanone made his outrage known.
Fanoneâs frustration flared as Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) absolved Trump of any wrongdoing in the riot that left at least 170 officers injured, with four later dying by suicide.
Speaking directly to Fanone and other officers in attendance, Nehls said âI can tell you, gentlemen, that the fault does not lie with Donald Trump. It lies with (former U.S. Capitol Police Chief) Yogananda Pittman and the U.S. Capitol leadership team."
As Nehls continued, Fanone slipped an audible âgo f—- yourselfâ in between a couple of loud coughs.

Things I'd love clarification on from members of MAGA:
1. Are you for compliance with police or against it? You said Renee Good deserved to be killed for not listening, but Ashley Babbitt wasn't.
2. You said you were against new wars, but seem to support what's happening with both Venezuela and Greenland.
3. Did you actually want pedophiles to be locked up? I'm confused why you were loud about the Epstein Files until we started to see Trump was a part of them.
4.1 thought masks were oppressive, too hard to breathe through, and not something the government could tell us to wear, but you support ICE agents terrorizing citizens while wearing them?
5. You said he'd lower grocery prices and make it easier for the middle class family in America, but prices are higher and the middle class family can barely get by.
6. You voted for the pro-life party, yet new bans have increased infant deaths, mother deaths, and abortions. And now fight against feeding students lunch and following science based vaccine recommendations.
7. You boast of a Christian nation but clap when we turn away the foreigner, ignore the hungry, encourage systems that disparage the poor, and think empathy is a weakness.
There is research on the âprejudicedâreligious paradox,â where higher reported religiosity is associated with greater prejudice among some groups, especially white conservatives, despite religious teachings on love and equality.
A similar correlation exists between 'prejudice' and climate change denial.
... This is a beat down, and it's all about White Male power.
There is a glee in the aggression that's most disappointing. The almost joyful silence of those in Red states at Trump's aggression toward Blue ones.
Appreciating that it's not worth the time of engaging on boards like this... the reality is that racism is an incredibly strong force that continues to drive culture. As for the "what happened to that guy" syndrone... at some point in most peoples adult lives they begin to go down one of two paths: "I did all of this", or " somebody did this to me". The reality is always somewhere in the middle, but those on the extremes, usually "proven" by income and wealth, tend to support the punishment of those responsible.
A guy I went to college with was brilliant and a good guy. He is now a Trumper.
Awareness? I donât know. Makes me wonder what happened to him, the guy I knew in college.
I don't know your friend but I think a lot of MAGA energy is fueled by the notion of "payback." You can see it in Kurt's posts when he talks about "your side" getting a taste of medicine.
There are a number of economic and social trends in the US that have left a group of people feeling marginalized, replaced, overlooked and knocked off their perch. You can see in complaints about feminism, politically correct language, "woke" issues and immigrants. Demagogues like Trump told people they were under threat and it wasn't their fault they felt screwed over but he'd take care of them.
So Trump gets away with attacks on women and Jonathan Ross blurted out "fvkin' bitch" after shooting Renee Good. The Trump admin has wiped out civil rights legislation and prosecutions while whitewashing Blacks from official records of American history. ICE is hunting down immigrants with reckless impunity and—BONUS—harassing the libs in the streets.
Effectively, Trump has deputized the Proud Boys and similar groups. Their use of masks and lack of identification and broad remit gives them the power to terrify and intimidate beyond any legal necessity.
Trump and his gang have taken all that resentment of government and social trends into break-all-the-rules, smash-and-grab thuggery. We saw the same thing in post Civil War South when whites violently suppressed Black votes and Black involvement in government.
This is a beat down, and it's all about White Male power.
If the right has learned anything from Trump 1.0, it's in naming things.
âWokeâ is brilliant in its simplicity. It gives less informed people a sense of intellectual or moral awareness without requiring a deep understanding of what's truly included/excluded. It compresses complex social issues into a single, self-validating label, letting users feel enlightened while blithely ignoring nuance, reflection, or engagement with difficult truths and the reality of others. Empathy need not apply.
Fake news, cancel culture... MAGA has several triggers that all mean "own the libs": facts, reality, intelligence, logic, and empathy be damned.
It's no wonder many feel so threatened by these simple terms!?

I know many people who hold asinine (usually political) opinions, yet they themselves are not assholes.
They just aren't "smart" enough to ask the right questions...or, understanding of themselves enough to know they are not smart enough, and therefore should do more to understand or at least defer any opinion. (ps, for this reason i prefer to have the "elite" run our systems).
Too often, people will attack or mock what they don't understand from a false sense of confidence.
The more we learn and know, the lower our confidence level....which those who don't or are unwilling to understand will only attack as a weakness.
