“I’m 96-and-a-half years old. I lived through the Great Depression; I served in World War Two in our fight to defeat fascism; I’ve seen the invention of television and performed on television, even before my family owned one. But what I’ve never seen is the American people being lied to every day …”

As the Washington Post noted, Trump has lied about Obama administration efforts to reform policing. Trump has actually rescinded Obama-era executive orders on the transfer of military gear to local police departments and undermined the Obama-era program that promoted community policing.

Who caused the violence at protests? It wasn’t antifa.

"I did something good: I made Juneteenth very famous," Trump told the Wall Street Journal in an interview Wednesday, referencing the news coverage of the planned rally that was moved to a later date. "It's actually an important event, an important time. But nobody had ever heard of it."

With His Latest Lunacy, Trump Has Moved Into Nixon Territory — and Perhaps Beyond
William Westmoreland, a general who’d served as the U.S. commander in Vietnam, displayed the same predilection for psychological self-preservation. In a 1986 speech to Florida businesspeople, he learnedly explained that “an investigation determined that Kim Phuc had been burned in an accident involving a hibachi.” No such investigation ever occurred.

It wasn’t just Vietnam, of course. In 2011, U.S. Apache gunships staged an attack in Afghanistan’s Ghaziabad District. The administration of Hamid Karzai, then the Afghan president, received reports that 50 civilians had been killed, including numerous women and children, and many children had survived with burns. In a meeting with Afghan officials, David Petraeus, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, shocked them by suggesting that the children had been burned by their own parents, in order to pressure the U.S. and its allies to cease operations in the area. (...)

So it’s no surprise that Trump is desperately grasping for any explanation that his “side” does not casually hurt people like this. As the poet T.S. Eliot said, “human kind cannot bear very much reality.” Those who run the world can bear the least.

This one is humorous: Washington Post sports column today by Sally Jenkins speaks to Trump lacking the nonphysical  characteristics that stellar athletes possess. Trump didn’t even graduate from high school until 1964.”

I completely agree with the premise of this mans argument but are his request and the subsequent discussion having more of a Streisand Effect on this issue than if he'd just left it alone?

The perversion is that if Twitter were to remove the post or ban POTUS for a few days....the messaging from the right will be that the liberals are running a deep-state conspiracy to cover up the truth.

It's wrong and terrible....but arguing is a lose/lose.

It does seem like a lose/lose proposition for him, especially given that effect and the possibility of some "attacker-as-victim" response.  It seems like Trump is "suggesting" just enough (or not just enough) so that he can't be charged with libel or defamation.  Perhaps if left on the site intact and taken collectively, the Tweets could be eventually be more damning, legally - probably not though.

I think at some point you have to call out evil. You don't get rid of racism or sexism or other bad behaviour if you don't say something, even if you won't win in any particular incident.
