My MacMini (Mid 2010) on El Capitan, has decided to stop playing FLAC. ULTRA quality is the highest that will play. My iMac (Late 2015) on Mojave plays ALL quality levels. So I assume my home network is OK. MM is USB to Chord 2Qute ito HiFi system, iMAC is via a USB Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100 and into HiFi.
Any ideas ?
TIA

I stream flac through Logitech Media Server and for the past several days (and periodically over time) the server pulls a set of cached songs (normal) and then loops through it. Developers of the LMS add-on say they have seen this also and can't figure it out based on the tech they control. Is there anything about the RP streaming server that might be contributing to this?

Just wanted to add that I think it's rad that you support FLAC streaming. I'm a long-time RP listener (10 years?!) Every time I return to the site I see something new I like. The four column player UI is so great. ( I find myself wikipedia-ing artists all the time!) First time I tried streaming to my Chromecast Audio with the FLAC RP stream it just worked. I'm using the castnow package and command line to do this. $ castnow http://stream.radioparadise.com/flac â¦and we're live. Thanks for supporting this!

I have installed Windows 10 PC app, sound quality settings are: Low, Med and High. What these qualities represent in bitrate format? Is High a flac?

Not seeing that. Everything is up for me. This is as listening RP from Europe (Germany). May be cache-related... hopefully, as nothing else is coming in, as of yet. ;)

My windows sound setting is 2 channel 24 bit 44,100 hz.
The RP flac transmission is apparently about 1,000 kps.. Most RP CDs are ripped at 44.1 khz. I also use Deezer's 1,411 kps streaming service. Are the vanilla DTS and Dolby Digital codecs compressing the digital flac streams? Would having a sound card that supports DTS-HD Master with HDMI out make a difference to the sound quality (imaging, sibilance, etc) I'm getting through my 2.1 system?
Richard
Our FLAC audio is all 44.1, just like anything that's ripped from a CD. We don't use DTS, just (lossless) FLAC compression, which gets decided in software — so what your PC is sending out is just straight 44.1/16 PCM. That's such a basic function that I doubt highly that a different sound card will offer any improvements — though I'm sure that some audiophile types would argue with me on that.

Han Jeurissen Han_Jeurissen wrote:Hello Bill, First of all I want to complement you and your wife with having Radio Paradise and your music choice. My wife and I love this music station. But, unfortunately there is a but, for a few months now we have some stutters on certain moments, mostly around 5.00 - 6.00 PM Amsterdam time zone. When they occur, the song is interrupted every 10 or so seconds for the duration of 2-4 seconds. We use a Bluesound node 2. I first contacted them, but they refer to RP. When I look in the Bleusound logfile I notice distinct errors appear: May 27 14:52:52 (none) user.info ./ms.pl: Controller::outputUnderrun Controller.pm (2745) streamId=418 Though the Bluesound node is attached through Wifi, I don't believe that is the problem, because I can play flawless high res music from my NAS and the Bluesound reports a good Wifi connection. The stutering lasts mostly about 10 minutes, but it is very anoying. Maybe it is some kind internet traffic-jam, as it mostly occures about 5.00 PM every day, I don't know. Does this makes any sence tot you? I read in other posts beneath that you advise other links to streams. Unfortunately I cann't use those in the Bluesound. But on the other hand the stuters we suffer from are in a short time-span. So maybe this a different kind of problem. I'm curious what you think about this. Greetings from the Netherlands, Han Jeurissen
We're now connecting European listeners on Bluesound devices to a different server. Seems to be working well. Thank you, it does indeed work well. Very happy here again!!!

Yes, it is streaming now, thanks, but now I notice that the stream content is different from the browser - I'm having Jethro Tull from the browser and Eliza Gilkyson from the stream (?) Zep wrote:

And why would anyone listen to RP on iTunes, when you have a perfectly good sound quality on the RP site... at least on my iMac. It is better on the new site than the Legacy, though.
Whenever we use digital players, we have to do a conversion from digital to analog. That's what the internal sound boards of the PCs, mobiles and tablets are responsible for. These boards are not designed to take full advantage of the sound quality provided by the flac files as in the case of RP. In the particular case of Volumio, what is done is to use a Raspberry Pi processor or another similar one that with Volumio works as a local music player and streaming even Tidal, Spotify, etc.. It uses a DAC (digital / analog converter) to the output that assures us an excellent use of the information that comes with a flac file. To take advantage of all the spectrum that flac gives us, we can also use a DAC connected to a USB port of a PC. Or a dedicated streaming player, today all major brands offer them. The difference in the sound quality will be noticed more as long as we have good quality amplifiers and baffles.

Can't speak to all of those, but sometimes I'll use iTunes from my desktop so I can stream to three different areas via AirPlay. That's not necessary when I use the AppleTV as my source - then I use the RP App and configure the ATV output to many sites (but that's a pain - I wish it were part of the app).
There is no way to configure AirPlay2 from inside the aTV app, sorry (I tried to do it). But it's not so boring to do it, it's improved for me as soon as I found that the output configuration it's just a long press the play/pause remote button while on the "desktop" and select the output devices from there... Check also on the Apple site. For the why use a native app (there is also a native app for macOS, while it do not support channels), I discovered there are 2 kind of Mac users: users that are not sensitive to latency and do not use system workflows (like streaming to different speakers), that are well served by a web application and users (like me) that cannot tolerate the latency of web apps (the fact that there is a significant delay between asking an action and the fact that something happens, like in this editor, for example) and that frequently use a portable Mac from battery (not using web apps and using Safari instead of Chrome improves significantly the battery duration) that prefer to not use web apps, it's just that. It's not religious, it's just a different perception. ð
