That's pretty great - thanks for that!
Back in November 2001, my wife was running the NY Marathon. We landed in Newark and hopped in one of those painfully cramped airport/hotel shuttle vans with about 8 other people. We wedged ourselves all the way into the back row of seats (weâre polite like that) along with one other woman.
As we approached the city, still hazy and reeking from the smoldering buildings from that day a couple months earlier, we were making all that random small talk you make when sitting on someoneâs lap â nothing too particular, mostly how sad and deeply pained we all were from the recent events.
At one point, she mentioned that she was in town to work on an album with a friend of hers.
âThatâs awesome! what are you working on?â
âHeâs reimagining a whole piece of work based on The Ravenâ.
âThatâs pretty cool. Who are you working with?â
âAn old friend, Lou Reed.â
Now, my eyes are bugging out and turn to really look at her now, but no glimmer of recognition.
"May I ask your name?â
âKate McGarrigleâ
Sadly, nothing is clicking for me.
She sighed just a tiny bit and said her son is Rufus Wainwright, just as we pulled up to her hotel.
âAhhh!, of course!â
I may have said congratulations or something as let her out. She waved and went inside as we pulled away.
Anyway, yes, thereâs nothing but talent in them genes and I am a complete buffoon.
this is a criminally neglected thread!
get busy peeps and bring it!
i've noticed that the strange and cool is missing something from several genres
most notably the instrumental pyschofalconry steam punk groove
so if you know anyone that might fit into that weird slice of freaky feathered funk please do post it
might have to check with proclivities, sfw or maybe ov knows a guy
This randomly came up on one of my Spotify playlists yesterday, and I swear I've listened to it a dozen times since, trying to reconcile how it can be simultaneously gorgeous and creepy as hell. Also, the amount of apparently genetic talent in that family tree is unbelievable.
Very good song - and yes, her parents and other family members are quite talented as well.

This is really, really sad. Reminds me a a few of my rescue missions. Beautiful music, but dang....
