To Fight Climate Change, We Need More Powerful Supercomputers
Accurate predictions of Earth’s warming require computers that are too expensive for one country or institution.

By Sabine Hossenfelder
Dr. Hossenfelder is a research fellow at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies.   NYT

Key paragraph:

In this situation, the best we can do is improving computer models to obtain more accurate, approximate solutions. It is knowledge we urgently need: As Earth continues to warm, we face a future of drought, rising seas and extreme weather events. But for all we currently know, this situation could be anywhere between a mere annoyance and an existential threat.

This video is on the Congressman's youtube channel. One comment says that he went to MIT. I smell a scandal there.

I think Massie was just playing to the mouth-breather segment of his constituents. I've known a bunch of MIT grads and they are pretty goddamned smart, albeit with gaps and blind spots in their knowledge just like everyone else.

This entire article’s “proof” is just saying that “higher CO2 happened before humans, therefore humans can’t cause higher CO2“.

Here are logically identical arguments: “England scored goals before Harry Kane, so Harry Kane can’t score goals” Or in American English: “The New England Patriots scored touchdowns before Rob Gronkowski, so Rob Gronkowski can’t score touchdowns” Or more simply: “Fires happened before humans, so humans can’t cause fires”.

So if you agree with this article’s logic and that humans aren’t causing CO2 to rise, you also have to believe that Harry Kane and Rob Gronkowski never scored anything and could never score anything, and that no fire has been caused by a human ever.

Which scientists "proved" that?  Anyhow, there is technically no such thing as "scientific proof", right?

Often colloquially used, but yes, there's no such thing. Proofs belong to mathematics. Science generally deals with evidence (data) and probability/likelihood.

You also have to believe that burning materials made up of carbon doesn't produce CO2

Climate change: 'Magic bullet' carbon solution takes big step

Tiny pellets of calcium carbonate

Chalky grains of calcium carbonate are the result of concentrating the CO2 that's extracted from the air

A technology that removes carbon dioxide from the air has received significant backing from major fossil fuel companies.

British Columbia-based Carbon Engineering has shown that it can extract CO2 in a cost-effective way.

It has now been boosted by $68m in new investment from Chevron, Occidental and coal giant BHP.

But climate campaigners are worried that the technology will be used to extract even more oil.
